California - Woman in my garage has 5 people living with her.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 09:50 AM PDT

I own a house in Southern California and have my garage rented out to a woman for the last two months. Her lease states she is the sole tenant, with no sublet without my permission, however she has had this man staying inside the unit with her the entire time.

We have Ring cameras set up on the property, so I get notified whenever someone comes and goes. He has not left the property for more than a day or two since she moved in.

When I met him the first time, I sent an email to my tenant explaining he needs to be on the lease. However she assured me "her friend" is only a guest and won't be there much longer.

Two weeks went by and when he didn't leave, I gave her one more chance to add him to the lease, but she insisted he wasn't staying.

I served her with a Notice to Perform or Quit, allowing three days for him to vacate. She then tells me this man is her husband, but spells his name differently several times in the email back and forth, and that he wasn't supposed to be here but is here now since the pandemic altered his previous plans.

She had him leave for two days after the notice, but he's back, as well as several other people who are now here all the time. I know this because their cars block my driveway now, as well as Ring camera footage of people coming and never leaving the unit.

My issue, other than the contract breech, is that her rent has utilities included, so she's been spiking the energy and water bills with all these people and I am out of work and can no longer afford to support 5 people living in my garage. When I calculated the rent totals, I was expecting one person in the unit, and mentioned this as a very important aspect in signing the lease.

She has been taking advantage of me and the utilities and I'm unsure what to do at this point, and I've been very patient with her.

What can I do now that she's violated her contract several times?

edit: Thank you so much for the responses so far. I wanted to edit that the garage is a converted unit, it's a studio apartment with full kitchen and bathroom, all legally permitted. I don't know how she fits 5 people in the unit comfortably but then again she's insane.

College advisor told me that he would override 6 credit hours so I could graduate. I found out 9 years later that he didn't do it and I don't have a degree, and my college credits are not valid anymore. [IL]

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 10:57 AM PDT

I am so upset right now I feel like i'm going to get sick. I dont know what to do.

I'm from Illinois and the college I attended is also in that state.

9 years ago I was 6 credits short of graduation, but my internship had a position open up out of state and asked if I was interested. When I said yes, they asked me to talk to the school to see if I could take the classes online while I worked.

I talked to my advisor and I was told he would override the last 6 credit hours due the internship and another elective course that could qualify as what i needed. He even emailed my boss saying something along the lines of

'I wouldn't do this for many other students, congrats you have one heck on an employee' (or something like that)

All of the conversations between my advisor and I were saved to my student email.

So I graduate, move out of state and start my job.

Fast forward 9 years and 2 jobs later.

I lose my newest job (with a different company) due to Covid. I apply to several different jobs and I got a call back from one of my top job selections.

They told me they cant hire me because the college I attended said they don't have a record of me graduating.

I call the school and I was told that they have records of me attending but I was only 'a few credits shy' of graduating.

Apparently what happened was either my advisor failed to override the classes and DIDNT TELL ME or somehow he didn't know he failed to override them.

After hours of explaining and pleading with the college they told me that the best they could do was re-enroll me but I would pretty much be a freshman again because credits expire after 8 years, and the program has changed to the point where most of the valid credits wont even apply to the degree anymore.

I dont know what to do. I spent so much money and I'm sick to my freaking stomach.

The advisor doesn't work with the school anymore, and I was told they don't know how to contact him. My old boss told me he remembers the emails he had with my advisor, but he doesn't have them anymore, and my school email has been deactivated for several years now.

Is there anything legally I can do?

    Update:

I got frustrated and went on a long bike ride. I didnt realize this blown up. I'm being asked alot of the same questions so i'll answer them here.

How could you not know if you received a diploma? Wouldn't you check in if you didn't get your diploma in the mail?

I graduated with several minors and certificates. When you graduate with a 'certificate' they will send you a literal certificate that looks just like a diploma. When they sent the certificates to my Dad's house (I was in a different state) I told my dad he could keep them. (as a way of thanking him for raising me)I guess my Dad thought that one of the certs was my diploma. He had it framed and hung it up, but we lost it due to some house damage, and I never really cared to request another one. (I really didn't care about a sheet of paper)

Can you get someone to recover the university emails?/ The university should have the emails?

I already asked them about this and they said that a students email address and emails are removed from the database 2 years after inactivity and they do not have the ability to recover the emails.

    Did you walk?

Yes. (But to be fair, you can walk without graduating)

Does a degree matter now that I'm 9 years into my field?

The job market is very unforgiving without a degree.. Especially now that I'm senior level, most companies will think not having a degree makes me unqualified, or they will use it to try and get me for way cheaper.

Also, I worked HARD for that degree. Not only did I earn a 3.2 GPA, but I spent over $80,000 to obtain it. The fact that all that money is potentially lost/gone down the drain makes me sick.

Can you just go to an online college and transfer your credits?

Yes, but most colleges have a 25% rule where I have to obtain 25% of the credits from that college to graduate from there. So that will cost me roughly around $40,00-$60,000 and I have no job at the moment. Plus there is no guarantee that all the credits will transfer from my old school.

Mom stole $1000 via bank, says she doesn’t know anything

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 08:02 AM PDT

I live in Atlanta, Georgia. My mom lives in Georgia as well.

My mom and I had a falling out years ago, at which point she told me that I "might want to" remove her from my BOA account. The implication was that she would steal from me in retaliation.

I called and had her removed immediately.

It's been about 4 years since then. Now there's a charge made by phone payment to her card for $1000 and she's saying she's as confused as I am. The bank told me to try to talk to her about it before they would reverse the charge or mark it fraudulent. They also said that she's still listed on my account despite my earlier calls.

Frankly, I don't believe her and I'm frustrated that the bank wants me to contact her. I'm also incredulous that this could happen as a computer error.

And, if it isn't an error and she stole it - how did she do it? Can she use my social or my other information to get into my account?

Etsy forcing me to refund a client $500 for a completed service

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 05:34 PM PDT

I have a client who ordered a custom website from me via Etsy. We agreed up front that I would build the website for her with 65 products and any additional products would be an additional fee. My invoice and shop policy states that all sales are final after 2 hours and after I begin work on her project.

After the website was completed with 66 products, she requested that I add more products to her site, and when I gave her a quote she refused to pay. She told me to either refund her for the entire project or waive the additional fee. When I refused to do either, she filed a dispute against me with etsy.

A mediator from etsy ruled in favor of the client, saying the order is "not as described" and has ordered me to issue a full refund. And if I don't, they may "take action against my account" (which could mean suspending all of my etsy shops, but they don't clarify) and also will issue the refund on my behalf.

On top of that, etsy is breaking a number of their own policies as well as their seller protection policy.

Is there anything that can be done legally in a situation like this?

Do I legally have to send my children to school during pandemic if state has approved it?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:20 PM PDT

In my house I have 5 kids. I've seen one get sick and spread it to the others within hours if not minutes.

I'm super concerned about sending my kids back to school in September. I have one child that has respiratory issues and it's a life or death situation for him if he catches anything.

The school has said it will divide the students in half and practice social distancing and use other preventive methods however I just don't feel safe as a parent that this is the right time. The state I reside in is New Jersey.

I just noticed I'm living in a different address than my lease. And I need to move.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 01:02 PM PDT

    Philadelphia PA

I have a terrible mouse problem in my apartment since January. They're in my bed now. I was attempting to break my lease but my landlord said I will pay through December. and I'm noticing my lease says "123 N 2nd street" but I live at "456 N 2nd street." So I looked up both addresses on the L&I. However, only the 123 address has the correct licenses. 456 address has no results at all. Is this legal? Because it seems like I'm 1) living at a different address than is on my lease and 2) living at an address with no licenses to rent and 3) is completely overrun by rodents

Update; after google earth search, both addresses show photos of my apartment. Does this mean that both addresses are registered to my building? And I don't have a case anymore here?

Friend cancelled wedding an is being sued by fiance

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 11:46 AM PDT

    Hello!

Would really appreciate some thoughts / guidance here.

My friend was supposed to get married at the end of March. She and her fiance had been disagreeing about the wedding and their plans as a married couple for the entire duration of their year-long engagement. When COVID cancelled their (limited, unfinished) wedding plans, he announced they would get married virtually.

She asked for more time. They went back and forth about it and he said they would get married on X date or it was over. They did not get married on X date.

He then sent her an invoice for wedding and honeymoon related expenses. He included her engagement ring (which she had already returned to him), both of their wedding rings, and his suit, and some other things. The total is ~12K. She has repaid some of the expenses but he is threatening to sue him for the remaining balance.

What is her legal obligation here, and what should she be doing to prepare?

    Some other miscellaneous notes:

    • We live in Texas, not sure if there are any state laws that are applicable / we should know about
    • The amount he invoiced her for is too high for our small claims court right now, but starting in September, the max limit you can sue for in small claims court is increasing and would cover this amount. (Small claims court would be advantageous so we are trying to make sure this gets stalled out so that he doesn't file any lawsuits before then)
    • He did not include receipts, and the majority of the amounts end in a 0 (ie 30, 120, 2240), which seems like he is estimating (my speculation).
    • She was not directly involved or listed in many of the transactions.
    • She is now collecting communication records and other documentation related to the transactions.
    • Not legally relevant, but we all hated him and felt like he was really pressuring her to get married.

    Thanks for any guidance!

someone is selling knockoffs of my copyrighted jigsaw puzzles featuring my artwork through facebook ads

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 04:34 PM PDT

i am an illustrator/jigsaw puzzle designer in tennessee. i have two puzzle designs - both copyrighted (the illustrations alone and as puzzles) that i have been selling for the last couple of years. i have blogs describing the making-of process so there is no way to dispute the designs are 100% mine.

last month facebook ads started popping up using my images, product photos, and product descriptions copied from my website and instagram. the ads are getting hundreds of thousands of likes and shares, and many people have contacted me alerting me to the scam. there are many companies like this, all with similar website designs. i got ripped off by one a couple months back trying to order a puzzle that never came, then the website site disappeared. at first i thought they were just taking orders then shutting their sites down, but ive started getting emails from customers who are receiving cheap, crappy knockoffs of my puzzles. they dont have boxes, just junk puzzles in a bag. i guess its a good thing that they arent good quality, but it still sucks to know there are tons of counterfeits out there.

one of these kind customers sent me the puzzle she received, and it has a return address to Xi'an China. not sure what to do with this information or where to go from here. there are currently two websites selling the puzzles, another that has since been taken down. the only contact info is a weird email address. i had emailed them the first time it happened and had an unusual exchange, but have since decided not to try to contact until i have some sort of legal advice.

at this point i am wondering what i should do with the information i have and if there is any way i can stop these people from selling knockoffs of my products? also, i have filed reports at ripoffreport.com but are there other ways to get the word out to alert people? it seems like most facebook ads are scams like this but most people dont know how to discern legit sellers from scammers. any help is appreciated!

My Landlord is kicking me out of my Apartment for a couple of weeks in order to fix a leak in the plumbing. He’s making me pay out of my own pocket.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 03:04 PM PDT

I live in Tucson, Arizona and have been having an issue in my bathroom where my upstairs neighbors sink, toilet, or shower is leaking behind my own bathroom wall and coming out onto the floor. I put in a work order back in April and another about 10 days ago. Both times they sent a maintenance guy but the problem wasn't corrected either time. Today i had another plumber come out to look at it and he said the wall and the plumbing had to be replaced. Plus there is a copious amount of black mold. I don't have renters insurance and not many other places to go. I cant afford a hotel for that long, either. Am i just out of luck or is there something i can do?

*sorry for the bad grammar, I'm not terribly good at writing.

Private School not requiring PPE for students, both parents are high risk. Contract has strict terms that say they can't be broken for anything but moving, loss of job, or death at the school. Do we really have no recourse? Signed in January.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 04:31 PM PDT

First time sending our kids to a private school. Most schools in Oklahoma suck, so we brought them to be interviewed by a highly rated private school here. Went through the whole process, they were accepted, we signed the contract, then COVID happened.

School is now pandering to anti-maskers by not requiring masks inside the school. Myself and my spouse are both high risk for dying if we catch this. Their answer is to offer 2 one hour sessions per week for families with high risk individuals, but this isn't anywhere near the quality of education our children should be getting from the amount we're spending.

Are we really stuck paying for a service we can't safely receive for because of a pandemic? They've received zero instruction or benefit from this school yet.

New employer let go before my first day of employment, thousands of dollars spent on rent in new city

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 08:28 AM PDT

I was hired to start a new job in a new city starting 4/21/2020. Contract was signed by both parties with that start date. In early April I signed onto a lease ending 8/31 right near my new work location. Leading up to my start date the employer told me because of COVID they were not yet ready to take me on and asked to push the start date back to 5/25. As 5/25 approached they asked to push it back to 7/6 (new contract signed by both parties with 7/6 start date). As 7/6 approached they said they were still not ready. I proposed pushing back to late-September in order to give them more time to recover, and asked if we could touch base again a few weeks later to see how things developed while they tried to secure more work. I finally had a conversation with them yesterday and they told me that unfortunately my position no longer existed, and they would not be able to take me on. I told them I understood (industry is heavily impacted by the pandemic), but asked them to compensate my rent expenses. Since the date was always pushed back ~2 months at a time I never tried hard to find a sublet. My hope was always that when the employer did finally bring me in they would reimburse me for the rent expense, but now that they decided not to hire me anymore I feel they don't give 2 shits about me. All this time I've managed to stay employed at the job I gave notice to, and now hope to stay here for a while longer since the job market has suffered so much.

I am upset because the way this all played out caused me to incur 5 months of rent in a city with a very high cost of living. The only time I ever will have stepped foot into the apartment was when I went to see it in late March before signing onto the lease.

My guess is I am not legally entitled to recouping these costs, but figured I would test my luck in this subreddit.

Any advice on how I should move forward from here in trying to get back all the double-rent I've been spending the last few months?

EDIT: Turns out I don't have a contract. I have an offer letter signed by both parties. Employment was to be in New York state.

Dad had a stroke and other kids trying to sell everything. (AR)

They are completely stonewalling me and throwing away my deceased mom's things. My dad is not 100% lucid and only told me that he said "they could sell some things." He also told me I could keep and use his vehicle but they want to sell it too and are threatening to sue me.

    Schizophrenic Cousin.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 08:27 PM PDT

So trying to help my mom out. Her cousin, my moms elderly Aunt's son has Schizophrenia. He's had it for a very long time. And he's getting worse and worse. She (moms aunt) calls the police multiple times a month as she's scared to death. The other week he was taken by EMT to the hospital, and a 6am the next morning he was pounding on my parents bedroom window. He had apparently walked home from the hospital in his underwear. And this past weekend the police were called on 2 separate incidents. The 2nd of which resulted in another trip to the hospital, but he was home again 6 hours later. Another example, My great aunt will wake up in the middle of the night with him standing over her staring silently. My great aunt is 89 years old and has enough trouble taking care of herself let alone her Schizophrenic adult son. This has been ongoing for years and years but is reaching a breaking point. My mom is trying to figure out what can be done to get him the help he needs. My great aunt can't take care of him, and he doesn't want any help. They live in St. Louis Missouri. Nobody involved has any kind of funding to put him in a care facility. And every time he gets taken by police/emt to the hospital he's home almost immediately and the cycle starts all over. What can be done to get him in a medical facility permanently? Does she need an attorney to file for anything? Can anything be done without an attorney? I believe what they're trying to do is have him become a Ward of the state. Whats all involved in this process? Again there is little to any funding available and the situation feels its getting more and more dangerous by the day. Thanks.

CPA's assistant put down the wrong bank account info and so my last two refunds + the stimulus check went to a dead woman's account.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 04:31 PM PDT

The title says it all. She says she's working to get it fixed and obviously everything is hosed up right now because of the pandemic, but it's been months with no updates. I did my own taxes after I learned that this is what happened so the IRS has the correct account number now (got my most recent refund), but it wasn't fixed in time for the stimulus check.

I just want this fixed, but should she/they be in some sort of legal trouble for this?

Im being accused of sexual assault from a tinder hookup

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:48 AM PDT

    Edit I'm in North Carolina

I met up with this chick on tinder. Never been on and wanted to try it. This girl wanted to have a one night stand with me and I accepted. Well lockdown stopped that from happening so we exchanged nudes. (I'm 20 m btw and she is supposed to be 21), after I sent a pic of my junk and one of her torso I get a message demanding who I was. Confused I said the guy you wanted to hook up with? The message said it was her dad and I'm sharing and receiving pics from a minor. I still feel sick from it and he's asking for $400 to keep quiet or he'll report me to law enforcement for sexual assault. What can I do?

Landlord wants me to sign addendum before move-in but after lease(TX)

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 06:38 PM PDT

So I signed a lease in early June for a move in date of August. Everything was fully signed and complete in June. However, now the landlords are asking me to sign a waiver addendum absolving them of any liability related to Covid before move-in. I told them I wouldn't sign it and they said i can't move in without signing it. Is this legal?

    Edit:

Also , Im maybe reconsidering the lease and have looked at other options. If they don't honor it can I cancel or take them to court. Trying to consider my options here but technically they want a waiver of liability incase they are negligent in cleaning or providing a safe enviornment.

Kroger keeps sending me notices for checks fraudulently used in my name

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 12:17 PM PDT

Back in March, somebody stole my new driver's license, most likely while it was in the mail.

A few weeks later, in late March, I get a notice from Kroger saying that I owe ~$150 for a check used in my name. I do not use checks, I'm not associated with the bank that the check was supposedly from, and I rarely shop at Fred Meyer, where the incident occurred. I called Kroger (the retail company that owns Fred Meyer), told them they were not my checks, and that I don't use checks. I was told to inform the police in the area, and to get a notarized affidavit from the police department. I also tried to get notarization elsewhere, but due to COVID, no place else was open. So, I filed a report online, was called by a cop, and when I told him I needed to get a form notarized, he told me they don't do them. So, I emailed Kroger, let them know about the situation, and said that if they needed any more information, they could contact the police.

Well, three weeks later, ANOTHER check was used in my name, in a city adjacent to the one where the first incident occurred. This time for about $250. I called Kroger again, told them that I once again did not use a check, or even step foot into that Fred Meyer. They told me the same thing again. Get a paper notarized, and fax it. I got a call from a cop in this other city, and he told me they also don't do notarizations. So, I called Kroger once again, and a representative said that this time, all I needed to do is send in a screenshot of the online police report through email. I did, and I thought that was the end of it. This was on May 8th.

I thought I was in the clear, until I received a Notice of Dishonor of Check from a collector based in Oregon just yesterday.

I'm really getting tired of these notices. I did what they wanted, and to me, it feels like I'm clearing up a mess that is entirely their fault. They shouldn't have taken the checks in the first place. Is there possible action I can take against them for using up so much of my time?

Other tenants in my apartment threw away all my things

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 02:26 PM PDT

I was storing around $1000 worth of items in the basement storage of my 4-unit apartment. Last night, I saw that the room that they were in was almost completely cleared out. I posted a note about it by the front door, and received a text message today from another unit stating that it was their exclusive storage room and that they had junk movers throw away everything because it was all old and unused. The basement has always been common storage for all tenants in the 2 years I've lived here, and the landlord confirmed to me that there are no unit specific storage rooms. The tenants did not provide any warning that they'd remove everything. They offered to pay me $200, but when I sent them a list of items thrown away (totaling $990), they said they were done with the conversation and that I could pursue whatever legal avenue I wished.

I do have free legal access through my job that I am waiting to hear back from, but wanted to know if people thought I had a case or if there is anything else I can do? I have the text messages from the tenant admitting they threw away everything.

    I don't have renter's insurance

    Thanks

Apartment complex won’t do anything about rampant package theft

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:10 PM PDT

    In California

My apartment complex uses a third-party company to receive packages in a locker room, called Luxor One. Due to the pandemic, the lockers have completely filled up, and the delivery drivers have resulted to dumping packages on the floor.

Today my husband went in to pick up a package, but literally every single package on the ground has been opened and looted through. The apartment complex said they are not responsible for lost or stolen packages, but they've made no effort to alleviate the issue, or even close the locker room door!

I'm not worried about getting reimbursed for our stolen packages, but is there any action we can take to prevent this from happening, or get someone to investigate who's stealing the packages?

Tldr; someone is stealing every package from our locker room, and the apartment complex won't do anything about it

Our contractor ghosted us and now wants to come finish. We don’t want him to because the work is bad

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 12:05 PM PDT

    Illinois.

Long story short our contractor was redoing our deck. I removed the cedar, he came to install pvc decking and railings. This was promised to be a two day job. On day 2 we discovered that the stairs were done wrong (we discussed how they were to be done 3x with pics). We came to a solution that the only way to fix them was to take them down and redo them. Contractor would buy the lumber, we would use some extra materials we were planning on returning ($400) to replace the bad pvc. He came back to fix this mistake but eventually ran out of time on our given deadline and said he would be back the next day to finish. We paid him 50% at this point. The next day he didn't show. I called he said he had an emergency at another house with a leak (this guy is a carpenter). Said he'd be there Monday. Monday came and I contacted him and said he left some tools here, when is he coming to work. He said he'll get the drills and be there Tuesday. He did not come Tuesday. This Friday, it will be four weeks since he was here and there is a litany of cosmetic and structural mistakes. We don't feel comfortable with him finishing the job and have already had two other guys come out to look at the work and they didn't feel comfortable with the work as it will take a lot of new materials and labor to repair the right way.

Our contractor contacted us today and asked to come finish up. We want to say no. Can we? This was a cash deal with no paperwork. We are out at least $600 in material, up to $1000 depending on how much new I need to buy to get it done right.

I could give more details on the inferior work and timeline if need be.

Estate executor is demanding an accounting from me, former PoA, via personal text messages. This is more than 5 years since the principal has died. Does this qualify as an actual request? - Pennsylvania

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT

This is in the state of Pennsylvania.

I was acting as PoA (power of attorney) for a parent during a span of about 5 months up until that individual died in 2015. This parent's spouse (a step-parent) suffers from a mental illness and was not capable of handling things so I was appointed PoA. The PoA document was drafted by an attorney, signed and notarized.

Now, more than 5 years after my PoA expired; I am receiving text messages from this step-parent, who is the executor of the deceased parent's estate. This person, in addition to accusing me of mishandling affairs, is requesting specific accounting information. I was prepared for this inevitable event and kept a very thorough accounting of that 5 month span as PoA, so I'm not concerned about being able to produce any necessary records. What I am concerned about is dealing directly with a very difficult and vindictive individual.

In a more ideal situation I suppose I would be happy to just directly comply and hand over a copy of all the records I have. However, this person has made it clear they have it in for me, through past behavior and in this more recent encounter. I simply refuse to work with them directly and have made that clear -- this has been my only response to them. Am I right in demanding that they use an attorney or go through the court in order to obtain these records? At the very least, a certified letter? More to the point: Does a series of accusatory text messages start the clock on the 30 days I have to turn over all relevant documents?

I will certainly need to hire an attorney to deal with this at some point in the very near future, no question about that. However, I'm just looking to see if anybody has some insight on this immediate question.

    Thank you.

Yesterday my cousin was fired for being gay. The owner said the Supreme court decision doesn't apply until August so they're not breaking the law. No state (Alabama) or municipal protection where he lives. It it true about the Supreme court decision or can he try to take action against the company?

Iowa landlord threatening to throw me out for unpaid rent

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 06:10 AM PDT

I'm behind on rent due to hours being cut from covid, and landlord says if I don't pay him he's going to kick me out, and keeps coming into my apartment unannounced to ask about the rent.

At one point he came in while I was asleep, came into my bedroom and started shouting at me, and now I can't sleep without taking meds.

I get that he's allowed to evict me for not being able to pay the rent, but Is he required to give any kind of notice before he comes in? And what are my rights as far as him kicking me out? I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to get some kind of notice (or that's what my dad said anyway) before he can evict me. Any info would be appreciated!

Landlord has given us notice to move out but we have already renewed our lease with them [FL]

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 07:28 PM PDT

    Hello LegalAdvice,

We have been tenants in a luxury apartment complex going on two years. The complex is under a corporate landlords but is managed by an office manager here on site. It is me and my boyfriend on the lease. In the spring of this year, we were emailed a notice asking if we would like to renew our lease. This came up right as COVID started and the leasing office closed.

We have had issues with them in the past posting notices to our door about our rent being past due but already being paid and just general incorrect and off-base notes.

We responded to the email with our decision to renew our lease for another full year, until June 2021. My boyfriend also signed the lease papers on their digital portal. Somehow, again, we received an email that detailed that we did not respond to their question and we again responded that we would like to renew. There was no response.

This week, we received a note on our door that was a decision of non-renewal and is saying we must move out by August 13th. We were completely shocked. My boyfriend went into the office to ask what was going on. They said they had not received any notice that we indicated we wanted to lease for another year. The office manager is new. My boyfriend had to show her the emails that prove our indication to renew. She said they had not gotten any of our emails, despite them being sent to the correct email address.

The office manager promised that she would take the emails and ask the corporate office if there was a way to reopen our case. She said they had already started the process to close our rental agreement. We have not heard back from them but are pounding down the door to get an answer as soon as possible.

Is there any leverage we have with the email proof and documents being signed for? Or is there a different step we should be taking to resolve the situation?

TLDR: corporate landlord is claiming we did not renew our lease and is asking us to move our in 3 weeks, despite having email correspondence and lease documents being signed indicated our wish to renew.

Someone has been calling my work every night while masturbating.

    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 04:35 PM PDT

Hello everyone I work in Ontario Canada. For the last couple years we've had one guy that would occasionally call using a private number to ask inappropriate questions to whatever female was working the desk. Questions include:

"Do you sell snacks because I wanna eat your pussy" "Wanna hear something? Jerking off noises"

Management is aware but it was one of those things that only happened once every two or three months so no one really minded since they would just be grossed out and hang up.

Recently this guy has been calling every day with a non private number. He has called every night for the last three days and sometimes more than once if we hang up.

I have spoken to my manager about possibly blocking the phone number but our company won't let us. My manager is going to talk to the big boss about it tomorrow but I am afraid of what will happen if he can't do anything.

Should I report it to the police? Can I get in trouble at my job if I report it?

    Edit: removed something for anonymity.

I should also add that the reason why I'm so concerned is because of the way this business works I am alone for more than half of my shift which goes into the night. We are open 24/7.
