Legal Advice - Drive-in theater neighbor telling us we can't watch

Legal Advice - Drive-in theater neighbor telling us we can't watch

Drive-in theater neighbor telling us we can't watch

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:46 AM PDT

    Location: Indiana

My grandparents own a house that borders a Drive-in movie theater. They have lived here for over 20 years and the theater has been here longer than that. They have a pool with a raised deck, and you get a perfectly clear view of one of the movie screens from it. So ever since the theater changed their sound to FM, it was always family tradition to have movie nights on Grandma and Grandpa's deck, along with a bbq and the pool.

Anyways, this past weekend a few of us family members were over and we had our chairs out on the deck and grandpa had burgers on the grill. We were about ready to watch the movie when the owner of the drive-in came to the edge of the property line and told us the movie was for paying customers only. This left us quite perplexed and in order to avoid any confrontation, my grandparents cancelled movie night.

My question is, does the Drive-in have any authority to tell us we can't watch? It's not like they're losing any money by us viewing it, they put the sound over the free FM radio, and we aren't tampering with any fences or trees that might be blocking the view.

I sometimes am unable to open my apartment door because a community storage area door is being left ajar, jamming mine, is this legal?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:18 AM PDT

I don't want to be a jerk about this but I just asked they could put a sign on the storage door asking tenants to close the door and they won't. Serious fires have happened at this complex before. I can get out with some finangling but I'm worried in a disaster situation this is not ideal.

    Ohio if it matters.

Tenant built a wall in apartment my father owns. In California.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:01 PM PDT

My father owns an apartment complex (4 units) in San Francisco

One of the tenants there has built wall in the apartment to create another room. He did this without letting us know. We believe he is subletting that room. Both subletting and making changes in the apartment is not allowed in the lease agreement.

The lease form used is CAA form 2.1.

At very minimum would like him to remove the wall. I would like pressure him into taking down the wall and making him pay for the costs incurred in repairing the damages(if possible)

Ideally, I would like him evicted for violating these terms but I do realize in SF that is nearly impossible.

I understand the laws have changed for covid and this has been complex.

Currently i'm consulting with as many attorneys as possible, but advice is varying and some of them seem like money grabs.

All advice, what to look for, is appreciated.

My sons father shaved him because i said no.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 08:33 AM PDT

Ive posted on her before concerning my sons father, but basically he wanted to get out of paying child support because of the virus and the court house said it was my choice so i said no. So him and his wife shaved my son and started ranting on facebook that i took him to someone who wasn't a hairdresser and they had to shave it. He got a hair cut tuesday, the day his dad got him. And Wednesday they posted a picture where his hair was fine but Thursday he was shaved. Every time he is mad at me he retaliates on our son. Is there anything i can do? This is just getting ridiculous i know a haircut isnt the end of the wotld but him mocking our son for bring shaved is just disgusting. Im in Pennsylvania

My principal won't let same sex couples dance at prom

    Posted: 15 May 2020 04:30 PM PDT

For privacy my principals name will be replaced by B. B will not let same sex couples dance at prom, and because she is friends with the police in our area they are there to enforce the rules. They are not dressed down at all either. I am female and want to go to prom with my girlfriend, I am going to go with her even if we end up getting kicked out or something of the sort. I know that this is of infringement on human rights since my therapist said so. What should I do? This is in Oklahoma.

I'm 17 but homeschool and and still in my freshman year

    Posted: 15 May 2020 07:59 AM PDT

I live in Illinois in the Chicago area. My parents have been swapped from online schooling to home schooling, andrefuse to remind me or make sure I'm doing work. After neglecting helping me so long they now believe I have to do everything on my own. I have anxiety and depression problems and I take medication and have monthly visits with my psychiatrist that my mom participates in, but lies to him about how far I am so I don't get taken away "for my safety".

I am 17, male and have done no school past freshman year. Recently after getting a little upset over having no help, they've started to punish me with extra chores, but told me "it's not a punishment". What can I do? Would telling the authorities be alright?

EDIT: I noticed I didn't get the actual severity of the case, and it kind of looks like I'm being upset over my parents giving me an independent talk, which is not true.

My parents have neglected teaching me anything, leaving me to deal with schoolwork, and my anxiety towards it. They've began to punish me for getting upset towards them. My dad told me not completing schoolwork was completely my fault, which I am embarrassed and ashamed of myself letting it get this bad, and "your mom is human, she forgets things too".

To sum this up I'm almost 3 years behind while being home schooled, and my parents refuse to help with anything. They tell me to lie to my psychiatrist about my progress so that I don't get taken away from them. They are punishing me for being upset and use, for lack of a better term, psychological tactics to make me out to be the bad, unreasonable guy who harrasses them. All I want is their support.

PT convinced me not to use my insurance for care stemming from a car accident, driver was uninsured, now stuck with the full bill

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:08 PM PDT

tl;dr hit by a car while crossing a crosswalk, PT insisted I not use my insurance and get a personal injury lawyer, personal injury lawyer and PT then rack up a huge bill assuming it would be covered, other driver ends up not being insured and my claim with my insurance was denied due to failure to file in time

    Austin, TX

Last January I was hit by a car while crossing in a crosswalk. I had a green light, and the driver was cited for a few things including trying to lie about his insurance. He was with the cops for a while and eventually was able to find some sort of proof of insurance that was sufficient for the cops to at least let him go. I went to a clinic to get my shoulder checked out right after as I didn't need an ambulance.

I followed a claim in the next couple of days with the insurance I was given, then I went to my primary doctor to see what I could do about my shoulder. He recommended I see a physical therapist, so I did. I had my initial examination and when I told the doctor why I was there he immediately stopped the examination and insisted I contact one of a short list of personal injury lawyers before I go forward. I had intended on using my insurance and then worrying about this later when the claim I filed would hopefully be accepted, but he was pretty insistent that it was in my best interest to work with a personal injury lawyer.

I called one of them on the list and they said that they would arrange for me to not have to pay for any of the care while they worked out my claim. The doctor and lawyer then put me on a pretty intensive program where I was there for at least 12 sessions. The doctor was pretty insistent that I needed an MRI, but for the first few weeks when I would ask to follow up he would kind of dodge the question and say he was waiting on the lawyers.then a few weeks later he said that there was a problem with the claim and so he was going to hold off on the MRI until they were sure it would go through. This seemed like a pretty big red flag to me - I feel like I either need the MRI, or don't. if I did then I would have just paid or filed a claim with my insurance, like I tried to do from the beginning, and then worry about reimbursement later.

A few months ago by after my last session and I get a letter in the mail from my lawyer saying that the other person's insurance denied my claim (apparently he didn't actually have permission to be driving the vehicle and wasn't covered) and that they were dropping me as a client. A few months after that and I got the full bill for the physical therapy. I called my insurance to file a claim retroactively and was confused to see that claims had already been filed on my behalf by the physical therapist -- and subsequently denied for failure to file quick enough. I talked to my insurance company to try and explain what happened but they pretty much said there was nothing that they could do.

I'm wondering if I have any options here. It's frustrating because I tried to use my insurance when I first got to the doctor's office, which they knew because they clearly tried to file a claim afterwards, and am suspicious that my care would have been different if they had to run costs by me and not treat me as a blank check in a personal injury claim. I know I could file a claim in small claims court, and I'm pretty confident I would win with police reports and witnesses to confirm what happened that day, but I'm also pretty sure I wouldn't be able to collect and I know right on the court website it says you should be reasonably sure you can collect before you even bother filing a claim.

Do I have any options, or am I just going to have to pay this pretty large bill?I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I figured I'd drop in here to see what everyone thought.

I do not have a car at the time so I was not covered by any uninsured or undereinsured coverage.

    Thanks!

Dealership sold us a truck a month ago and came back saying we weren't approved for loan after owning it for a month

    Posted: 15 May 2020 07:55 AM PDT

**UPDATE** The dealer called and admitted fault within their finance department, and said they're going to knock off the fees they charged for their services (doc fees, etc.) and we can finance for 0% for 75 months. THANK YOU so much for all your insight!!

My husband and I traded in our car for a 2020 Chevrolet truck. We went pretty far upside down on the car, but ultimately we were approved for 0%, 84 month financing. We signed the papers that day and drove the truck home same day. We also got a letter in the mail just the other day from our previous loan company stating they paid our trade in off.Today, a full month later, my husband received a phone call from the finance guy at the dealer saying we needed to come back in and resign papers because the terms changed. My husband has obviously refused stating we signed the paperwork already, and we are not going to agree with any new terms. What are our rights here? Is there anything we can do? GM has denied us the loan on these terms, yet we already signed papers for these terms. What are our next steps?

Stopping someone from sending packages to my address

    Posted: 15 May 2020 11:05 AM PDT

For a little over a year now somebody has been sending random gifts including flowers and most recently and Amazon delivery of Canned Spam. This is not stalking, as the person thinks somebody else lives at this address due to the notes attached regarding family and such, I have not found either the sender or recipient on social media or via Web searches, I do not have an address for either person but I do have their full names, how would I be able to stop them from delivering or at least inform them that they have the wrong recipient?

I think my roommate is tying to scam me??????!

    Posted: 15 May 2020 07:21 PM PDT

Sooo my I am subletting a room in an apartment. My roommate is the sub landlord I guess. We had a verbal agreement to 850 a month. Which I payed and got the keys and started moving in. I used the dishwasher and stover and she told me my lease didn't include utilities so I should stop using the dishwasher and stove. I said it's a better idea to have a written lease so I have more of an idea of what her "new rules" are. I received this written lease tonight and she has added extra fees that we did not previously agree to. She also added extra stipulations about guests and things. I don't agree to this lease at all. What are my options or rights here??

Ex boyfriend refuses to get off my lease

    Posted: 15 May 2020 03:43 PM PDT

My ex bf moved out of our shared apt July 2019, for a new job in another state. I broke up w him in Sept 2019 after finding out he did something really awful.

He refuses to sign himself off of our lease bc he sees it as his only "connection" to me. Landlord is unfortunately legally unable to remove him from the lease without his signature... ... can I sue my ex for unpaid rent ($24,000+) since his name has been on the lease this entire time yet I have been the only one living there and paying rent?

My employer won’t let me leave on my lunch break.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 09:57 AM PDT

    Title is pretty explanatory, but...

My employer requires we clock out for a one-hour lunch break every day. They have recently decreed that we are not allowed to leave the premises on our breaks. This has never been a problem before, as I almost always go home for break and have been for years.

I am an hourly employee and live in Pennsylvania if the state matters in this case.

Is this legal, or can I tell my boss to shove it and continue going home on my off-the-clock break?

Please help me, i no longer have the strength and the power to do anything but pray that it will turn out okay

    Posted: 15 May 2020 05:37 PM PDT

This will be a long post but i hope you can help me in any way.

Hello, I'm a 15 yr old female (excuse for my bad english) and living the most normal life that i could make out of my depressing background but recently as of the time that i am posting this is slowly but painfully escalating to a very complicated situation.

Through out almost my entire life, i live without a father and there were only my brother, mother and me. It is because my father is bedridden and mentally incapable of supporting our family, my mother was the breadwinner. I understand her hardships and the struggles she had to face for 6-7 years to take care of my ill father. Sadly enough, we are stuck in between the middle and the low income group which was really a struggle as only my brother and mother are working. December 2019, my mother meet this person on the internet by the name of Christopher Wiggs.

Based on what i was tolded by my mother, Christopher Wiggs is a cardiologist that works in a hospital in Ottawa, Canada. He is a divorced father with a son by the name of Larry Chris Wiggs, who is a 21 year old collage student. Christopher Wiggs is 61 years old while my mother is currently 51 years old. He stated that he is currently in Syria, working outstation at a common hospital. For the past few months, my mother have been giving this man money through Bitcoin, which already sounds fishy to me but she claimed that "it was to top up his prepaid so she could continue talking to him". The same excuses she gave me for the next few months and a couple $50 flew out the window, i predicted that she had given him approximately $1,000 as of now.

Unfortunately, my family is in a middle of a transfering to a new home to have some income and to pay my father's debt to the bank. I have approached my guardian aka my mother's older sister, and she adviced me to reach out to the police but they did nothing. Its already stressful enough with me and my brother's school life and now my mother's behaviour and attitude has become a burden for us to handle. I tried talking to my mother but she would'nt listen because she is already blinded by this possibly fake love. I no longer have any idea to do anything to stop this possible scam because of my ignorant and arrogant mother. I am on the edge especially with my mental disorders from thinking of a solution to solve this problem. I am starting to beg my relatives and even now, the internet, to help me. I look forward hearing from you. Thank you for reading until this far.

My 12 year old sister made fake Instagram accounts to solicit nudes from someone who is also underage, and the accounts are linked to my old email. What can I do from this point to protect myself?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 03:05 AM PDT

First time poster here, I'm not really sure what to do. This is a throwaway to protect identities as some personal friends know my main. Also sorry for formatting as I'm on mobile.

ETA: I am 22 and we live in Ohio.

A couple months ago or so, I helped my 12 year old sister make an Instagram account and we used an old email of mine which is a burner, I don't use it unless I need it for a free trial or something. A reason I used my burner email is so I could have access to the account and ensure she is being smart and safe. Over the course of the last three months, I've been receiving emails in the burner inbox associated with sister's username. These are standard "hey sisterusername, you have notifications!" and the like.

Tonight, however, I noticed a different username attached to these notification emails. So curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to make sure she was being smart. I logged in to her main account, and noticed there were two separate accounts which were also logged into (let's call these accounts apple and orange.) Just by looking at them, you can tell they're similar to catfish-like profiles. I decided to investigate. Both of the accounts are following and are followed by my sister's main instagram account. Looking at the APPLE account, the profile has one post, liked by my sister's main account, 2 followers, and following 14. In the direct messages of the APPLE, nothing suspicious. Now we move onto the ORANGE account: one post, 11 followers, and following 4. In the direct messages of the ORANGE account, there is a group message with my sister's main account and a boy at her school with the ORANGE burner. Not sure why the group was made, just seems like sister wanted this boy's attention and went about it in a shitty way.

Now we come to a direct message with a girl we will call USER on the ORANGE account. USER initiated the conversation on 3/21/20. The messages quickly evolve into a nude photo of USER being sent, and some risqué messages passed back and forth. Obviously I'm sickened, worried, confused. I took this immediately to my sister. I asked her about the fake accounts and she said she didn't know my email. I pressed more and she confessed she and her friend made the accounts to play a prank on the friend's friend. So not only do they know this girl, they catfished her into sending at least one nude photo of herself.

Obviously I am extremely worried. I told our mom, who asked me to send screenshots of the direct messages to her so she can forward them to my sister's dad. I marked over the explicit photo before I sent them as to not dig my hole any deeper.

My question here is, did I do the right thing? Am I going to get in trouble for this? What can I do to protect myself? Any and all advice and help is appreciated. Thank you for reading.

My aunt is named as the executor of my mom’s will and me and my dad do not trust her at all

    Posted: 15 May 2020 12:26 PM PDT

My mom passed away recently and before her death, my aunt who created the will added herself and her sister as the executors of the will. My dad and I are named as the beneficiaries of her real and personal properties.

After my mom passed, my aunt has been demanding money from me. She thinks my mom owes her more money than it should be, but there's no proof or evidence of that. She's been untrustworthy and unreasonable too. With that being said, my dad and I no longer want her or her sister as the executors. There's obviously a conflict of interest between us and my aunt who's holding the original will has not filled it to the court and it's been almost 4 months now. I tried to request it back from her, but apparently she said she can't find it....Now I'm in a pickle with her and I want to know if she has a right to do anything at this point. She said she can try to intervene and look through my moms bank accounts to see her transaction history over the past 7 years to find proof herself. But it wouldn't even explain anything if she did. She just wants more money and I hate her for treating me this way.

Any advice? Can I decline them as our executors or petition against them?

    Edit: We're from California.

Los Angeles, CA COVID-19 Renter Protection, Landlord Request

    Posted: 15 May 2020 02:13 PM PDT

    Hello,

I live in Los Angeles, CA where the Mayor has ordered a ban on evictions due to inability to pay rent relating to COVID-19 loss of employment, medical costs, or childcare.

I was laid off and I notified my landlord of my inability to pay rent going forward and they sent me a form to fill out. According to a document put out by the City of Los Angeles, "A tenant is not required to provide their landlord notice or documents if unable to pay rent due to COVID‐19" https://hcidla2.lacity.org/system/files_force/documents/covid-19_eviction_protections_fact_sheet.pdf?download=0

I feel the paperwork and documents the landlord is requesting are an overreach and I am uncomfortable sending them those items.

My question is how do I handle this situation and how do I express to them that I am not required to send them the documents and information they are requesting?

Here is the form the landlord sent me:

    ——

In order to be considered for repayment agreement as a result of COVID-19 related financial hardship, please complete this form by checking the boxes that apply to each leaseholder and provide documentation demonstrating that you are unable to pay the rent due to financial hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples of acceptable verification may include:

    1. Letter from employer on company letterhead verifying loss of income due to a COVID-19 related workplace closure and/or COVID-10 related layoffs or furloughs;

    2. Documentation of childcare expenditures (from a minor household member's school/school district) verifying school closures and which impacts your ability to pay the rent;

    3. Verification of health care expenses related to being I'll with COVID-19 and which has impacted your ability to pay the rent; or

    4. Other verification which demonstrates a significant COVID-19 related financial hardship which directly impacts your ability to pay rent.

Local legislation or eviction moratorium may provide for specific protections and/or circumstances in addition to those listed above. In those cases, Landlord agrees to consider further explanation and documentation of financial hardship in accordance with local law.

    Request:

    - Please allow for deferred payment of rent for April in the amount of $_______. Residents may pay a portion of their April rent if circumstances permit. At this time management is only accepting requests for April rent assistance. An additional package will need to be completed if assistance is required in a subsequent month.

Please provide a detailed explanation of your COVID-19 related financial hardship and describe supporting documentation provided herewith.

    1. I/We certify that all the information in this COVID-19 Financial Hardship Form is truthful, and the events identified above have contributed to my/our need for repayment agreement.
    2. The Landlord may review the accuracy of my/our statements and the supporting documentation. I/we am/are willing to provide all requested documents and respond to all Landlord communication in a timely manner. I/We understand that time is of the essence.
    3. If I/we have engaged in fraud or misrepresented any facts in connection with this COVID-19 Financial Hardship Form, or if I/we do not provide all the required documentation requested, the Landlord may not offer me/us a repayment agreement and may pursue eviction proceedings and collection of all past due rent fees.
    4. The Landlord will maintain confidentiality of any medical or financial information provided.
    5. I/we understand and agree that this form and any resulting agreement does nit absolve my/our responsibility to pay the rent pursuant to the Lease.

Let a friend invest $20k in crypto, later on he "couldn't log in" to the trading account and eventual stopped replying to me. How can I get access to this account back?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 12:24 PM PDT

    Location: NJ

Some background, this all happened over the course of late 2017 to 2018. I had a friend who I met from the Navy (we both finished serving). He happened to be very good with investing and predicted the cryptocurrency bubble. I sent him $20k which was my entire savings at the time, he used this money to invest in crypto, he was making steady gains, then after the bubble popped, he claimed the account to which he was using to trade crypto (kraken) updated their security policy and had trouble logging in. He claimed his computer which had the necessary information to verify the two-factor authentication never came, as the military will deliver all your goods back to your home address if you finish your enlistment contract from overseas. I never got the account information because companies like these give you hard time if you are logging in from different devices. I kept on asking him for updates, he told me he's still having trouble trying to get access, etc. then overtime he started to become less responsive, and sure enough he stopped responding to me completely, though he hasn't blocked me on anything.

We have no beef, and I realize this post might make it seem he was acting out of malice, but knowing him I think he just got lazy it with it and stopped giving a fuck. We had no written agreement or anything, just blind, stupid trust on my end. His parents also own a financial company if it make any difference.

An Amazon vendor scammed me for over $2400

    Posted: 15 May 2020 02:18 PM PDT

About 9 months ago I hard ordered a laptop on Amazon from a third party vendor. The laptop I received wasn't the one I had ordered and was heavily used. I contacted the merchant to return the item and the label they provided me was some post card kind of thing. When I took it to the USPS I was told I wouldn't be able to ship the item with it. During this time I emailed the merchant multiple times to get the proper return label. After receiving the label I sent the item back and still have the tracking information/their signature for receiving the laptop back.

After they received the laptop they still didn't send the refund so I contacted my credit card company and they processed the dispute for me. Everything was fine until the merchant began fighting the dispute and I learned today that my credit card sided with the merchant because "The item was sent outside the return window" even though they didn't provide the return label until after the return window. Amazon said they are unable to assist me because on their end it shows the item was refunded because it was disputed.

Are there any options I have in order to get my money back or is there anything I can really do? I just feel defeated once again. Thank you.

Edit: I am located in the Philadelphia PA area.

And I got a email saying they couldn't delete my account, and that they had a legal obligation to retain certain information activity that occurred in the US, anyone know what this means?

This is not urgent I am mostly just curious about why they can't do what I asked.

Landlord went into my apartment and removed my stuff, I had not informed them I had left for a while.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:12 PM PDT

I am currently in college in Illinois and leasing an apartment. I had to move most (not all) of my stuff from my apartment to back home at the discretion of my family, but had not told my landlord because I wasn't leaving permanently. I still had cleaning supplies and non-perishable food in my apartment for when I came back after the virus had passed as I'm still paying rent every month. When I went back down for the weekend, my food had been thrown out, a mop had been taken, all of my cleaning supplies were on a table in my living room, the furniture was moved, and my refrigerator was unplugged. My utilities had not been shut off and I have been paying them every month because I knew I would be returning. I had not been notified of anyone entering my apartment by my landlord nor the maintenance staff. My lease specifies that if the unit is vacated that I am still to pay rent until the lease is terminated and my security deposit is to be forfeited, but I was not completely gone. Is this my fault for not informing them or is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

If any other information is needed I'm happy to provide it.

Landlord forcing us to stay on the lease after the lease ends or lose our security deposits

    Posted: 15 May 2020 05:23 PM PDT

I'm currently staying at an apartment in California, the lease here ends in June. We were planning on turning in our 30 day notice at the end of this month, but we have a problem. One of our roommates has died and cannot sign the 30 day notice, also nobody has power of attorney for him. Our landlord says that since nobody can sign off for him we will have to stay on the lease after our lease ends, and we will be switched to month to month rent. They said our alternative is to break the lease and forfeit our security deposits.

    Posted: 15 May 2020 01:09 PM PDT

    Location: Pennsylvania

We have small gravel road on the back of our property which we recently purchased a year ago.

This gravel road goes to a bridge over a creek and then back to a gravel road.

This is our property but our neighbors have an easement written in the dead and it's very vague. I've recently contacted a Real Estate attorney but wanted some other opinions.

Our neighbors have recently built a gravel driveway on the other side of their 5 acre property. In the past the easement was used for Ingress and egress but now isn't required because they have other access to a paved road. Occasionally the neighbors will use the easement and we can't seem to understand why. It shaves off maybe 30 seconds of any type of commute.

The bridge is VERY questionable and believe me when I say, you would not be comfortable driving across it in a vehicle. It shakes and bounces when simply walking across it.

I offered to buyout/terminate the easement as my neighbors are moving and are about to put up their home and property for sale. He rejected my offer and said it "will decrease the home value."

Plain and simple I don't want them driving through our backyard. It's unnecessary and annoying.

The attorney I spoke to said he's seen people in the past dump a truckload of dirt to block easement in situations such as this. The other land owners would have to deal with the township or attorneys to get it resolved and a lot of time it will help make the problem go away.

My question is, if I were to dump a few truck loads of dirt on the gravel road and block the easement, what potential issues could I be looking at?

The neighbors leaving are grumpy senior aged people who are about to sell their home. They actually already purchased a new place.

Any advice would be appreciated. I tried being nice. I tried offering money. Now they're just being rude not to mention driving across a questionable bridge that is located on our property. If I'm going to do this, it's going to happen before they sell.

Fire in my building and water went into my unit damaging flooring. I get evicted because neighbor set his apt on fire?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:01 PM PDT

Dear Redditors, me & my wife are newcomers and completely lost in the situation. On May 14th we had fire in our building (Halilfax, NS, Canada) and water from the extinguishing system went into our unit and damaged half of the floor. I contacted our insurance (ZipSure.ca) and described the situation (we didn't have any personal damage, only the wet floor). I've been told to not file claim till I know if landlord asks us to move out to repair the unit. On the evening of that day workers brought huge dehumidifier and set it in the unit till Tuesday (May 19th). Thank God they at least allowed to turn it off at night :) We work from home and it's quite hard to do because it makes NOISE, but at least we could sleep in relative silence (dehumidifiers in the hallway are working 24h)

On May 15th a representative who assesses the damage (not from my insurance company, probably the one landlord is working with) came and said we need to vacate the unit by the middle of the next week because the repair would take about 2 months. Now after that I filed claim report on ZipSure website and they told me they contact me in 1-2 business days. Now it's Friday evening and I think I receive a call only on Monday. Now 2 days of complete frustration ahead :) No one can answer any questions because of the Weekends. And the questions are as follows:

    • 1) How do such situations handled in Canada?

    • 2) Will landlord cancel our contract?

    • 3) If so - will he pay a fine for the early cancellation?

    • 4) What if we can't find any affordable place to live till the next Wednesday?

    • 5) If we will find an accommodation - who will pay for it in case we cancel our rent and in case if we don't (like if we will return to our unit after the repair)

    • 6) If we don't cancel our lease and just temporary move out - will we still pay rent for our broken unit during these 2 months? (sounds super weird but who knows :) )

    • 7) We have deductible with Zupsure = $2000. So if we pay for temporary apt (or hotel) - do we need to pay $2000 first from our pocket and only then the insurance company steps in?

    • 8) If we (or our landlord) cancel our lease and we have to sign a new contract with someone - will we get any coverage from Zipsure in this case?

Why are such important questions not regulated anywhere or at least we can't find any info in Nova Scotia's tenancy act? Nor we were able to find answers in our rental contract. Isn't that strange? Hope someone knows the answers, thank you in advance!

I think a child in the apartment complex next to mine is being abused

    Posted: 15 May 2020 01:19 AM PDT

I've lived here for a few months and every day I hear a child screaming. At first, I thought the kid might be autistic, or have some other issue, because it is never ending and mostly intelligible. The kid's bedroom window is directly below mine across a small alley. Yesterday I heard something horrific. I could hear him repeatedly yell "get off me" and "daddy no no n o no no" followed by what sounded to be sexual penetration, like rhythmic skin slapping on skin, and grunting, not like spanking. I couldn't see anything though as the blinds were closed. My stomach turned, I started recording the audio with my phone but missed the worst of it unfortunately. I called 911 and they said they would send someone over, but I'm not sure they ever did. Is there a good way to follow up with a 911 call in California? The next day I called CPS but they told me they couldn't do anything, because I do not know their names or their exact unit number. The building is gated and I can't tell exactly how many units are in the complex or exactly which unit this window belongs to.

I am planning to contact my property manager tomorrow about this, but is there anything else I can do?

    Thanks
