Ohio: Stolen Property found after 20 years Posted: 14 May 2020 12:09 PM PDT When I was in high school, a friend and I were playing music together and we decided to let each other borrow instruments we were interested in. I let my friend borrow MY vintage synthesizer for HIS drum machine. We kept in touch and remained friends for years, often talking about how the other was enjoying playing with the thing we had let them borrow. Eventually I went off to college for the year and when I came back home for New Years, I asked him about the synthesizer. He said "Oh man, I needed money and ended up pawning it, it wasn't worth much but yeah its long gone sorry" I was upset at the time but also inebriated and did not want to make a big deal but, eventually decided I was angry enough at him that I never talked to him again after that new years eve. 15 years go by.... Recently, I checked up on him on facebook and find his instagram, take a quick peek and BOOM there is my vintage synth. Needless to say, I am quite upset and want the synth back, it is now worth over $10,000 What am I to do? [link] [comments] |
Hospital where my mom died wants to meet with me face to face four weeks after the fact Posted: 14 May 2020 07:27 PM PDT Located in Ohio. My mom passed away from (as far as I know) non-covid-related causes about four weeks ago. She was hospitalized in the ICU, intubated, had some respiratory distress, and coded within 24 hours. Fast forward to this week, I got a call from someone wanting to set up a face to face meeting with one or more doctors who I believe were involved taking care of her. I tried to pry and find out more about why they wanted to meet and the woman just said all she knew is they wanted to discuss her hospitalization and they would rather do it in person. Alarm bells are going off here, but I haven't landed on a hypothesis that has any teeth.
None of these feel likely. My SO is a doctor and thinks it's weird and says they don't typically follow up with families like this after the patient passes, but it's a pandemic, so who knows. I just can't imagine what they would need me to come in to talk about that couldn't be a phone call. Like... people can't visit family who are hospitalized. I couldn't visit my mom when she died in the same hospital! My questions are:

Lease says garage is included in rent, leasing office says it is not. Posted: 14 May 2020 12:13 PM PDT So we just started renting an apartment and in the lease there's a "summary of key information" which has a section for "check here if included in monthly rent" and it has checked Garage, Carport, Storage, Washer/Dryer. We have a washer and dryer in our apartment, included. When we asked about the garage, storage, carport, they said that it isn't included in the rent and those are "automatically checked" in case somebody wants to add it later and they'll increase the rent. Is that right? Can they do that? EDIT: Thanks for the answers. But as I read through more of the lease (I didn't have enough time to fully read it before because my GF was rushing me to get it signed cause she fucked up the move in date and we had to rush everything, bad idea I know) I've discovered the addendum for garages and etc that says we are entitled to (check all that apply) and nothing is checked. It seems kind of dumb for the summary to say one thing because they're too lazy to check the box when it's actually needed but what are you gonna do. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 08:01 AM PDT My girlfriend raises her 2 year old 100% of the time. She lives in Florida. She had filed for child support but her ex has been living at an address not on record. In April he filed her 50/50 custody. Mainly because he doesn't want to pay child support more than because he wants his daughter. They live 2 hours apart. My girlfriend hired a lawyer right away who took the case. He said he would respond by May 1st (she had until May 8th to respond). After May 1st he told her he had responded. Today she received mail that the case was going to default because she never responded after being served within 21 days. She called her lawyer who told her that he had forgotten and would get it filed by noon today. She's freaking out. Could she lose custody of her daughter because this lawyer forgot to respond? She makes more money than her ex boyfriend. Could she have to pay him child support because her lawyer forgot to respond. Any help to ease her mind today would be appreciated. Thanks you Update: her lawyer finally sent in the 6 day late response today. He admitted to the judge in the response that he was the negligent one. He said he retained him April 23rd and told her he would respond by May 1st but forgot. Can anyone who knows this area of law tell me if they think the judge will be understanding in this case? The plaintiff owes a lot of back child support too. [link] [comments] |
Can I sell a tshirt with a mugshot for profit? Posted: 14 May 2020 10:54 AM PDT You guys had great advice last time. Instead of going through insurance, I decided to try and go through Fedex directly for this claim because I do not want to pay the deductible with my insurance. Overall, damage estimates are around $750. This is in California, USA. I submitted photos of the damage, the angle of the scratch showing the package came from the sidewalk, the police report and witness details. In short, Fedex is denying they threw the package over the 6ft non see-through fence and damaged my new car. The overall tone from the claims adjuster was very aggressive and basically accused me, without directly accusing me of falsifying my claim and said I was in the wrong. The claims adjuster just called me, said and asked the following. My responses are in bold:
Overall, I have spent well over 8 hours on phone calls dealing with this. This has been ongoing for a month now. Three weeks ago I received a call from the local branch manager for FedEx and told me they spoke to the driver and they would reprimand them. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble, I just want this to be righted. Not sure what next steps I should take. The claims adjuster said they were going to reach back out to Fexdex and will get back in touch with me. I am assuming they are going to deny they did this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Neighborhood child climbing into horse pastures; what’s our liability? Posted: 14 May 2020 06:23 PM PDT Colorado, USA I live in a rural neighborhood where many people, including myself, have horses. Over the past few weeks a few of us have been having issues with a little girl. I don't know how old she is, but under 10 for sure. She seems very sweet, but she has been chasing trail riders with an unleashed dog with her and trying to climb into people's pastures despite having been told multiple times not to. My neighbor has caught her on her pasture camera almost every day this week. We don't know where she lives so we haven't been able to talk to the parents, and I think it's only a matter of time until she gets really hurt (barbed wire, electric fences, strange dogs, aggressive horses, or even regular horses stepping on her or her falling if she tries to get on them), or she hurts a horse or leaves a gate open or something. I'm wondering what we need to do to solve this or at least minimize our liability. Would this warrant a call to the police or cps? She seems like a very sweet little girl who just loves horses - I would happily let her come pet and feed treats with supervision and her parents' permission but she won't tell us where she lives or pass along our contact info to her parents. Thanks so much in advance for the advice! [link] [comments] |
Can an empty prescription bottle be used to prove I was selling my prescription? (US, Mississippi) Posted: 14 May 2020 05:06 PM PDT I have been diagnosed with ADHD and am prescribed Adderall, and take it as directed by my doctor. Ive been seeing the same doctor for three years. I recently got into a relationship with this guy who turns out to have a crazy ex-wife involved. She is technically still his wife, he has been trying to divorce her for a year, but she wont sign the papers. I've been dealing with her for quite some time, the guy and I used to work at the same place, she's gone into my work to try and get me fired by telling my boss I'm using drugs and drinking on the job. Luckily my boss knew better than to believe her because she has come into the store to scream at her husband on several occasions and doesnt seem mentally well. She found out about us and is very angry that he is dating again. She took an empty bottle I threw away in his trash can that still had the label on it (I know now I should have removed it beforehand), and now she's threatening to tell the police and my doctor I've been selling it to him, and she's photoshopped texts between us talking explicitly about buying and selling Adderall (she made these nearly a year ago.) I do not share my prescription with ANYONE, it's a medication I need to function properly and I don't fuck around with it. Every few months she starts texting me and harassing me about it. If she hasn't done it by now, I don't think she will, but regardless, I'm scared that she might actually do it and I'll lose my medication and my psychiatrist. Not to mention be charged with distributing schedule II drugs. Does she have any legal ground to stand on? Is the empty bottle that she has in HER possession enough to get me into trouble? I believe the bottle in question is dated from last May. [link] [comments] |
Boss suddenly wants me to switch from 1099 to a W2 - is he trying to commit PPP Loan fraud? Posted: 14 May 2020 06:13 PM PDT He mentioned recently he got approved for the small business loan, but mentioned nothing about paying us anything. Now all of a sudden today, he has asked me to switch from a 1099 to a W2, giving me no real reasoning. I am a TX hairstylist on a 1099, making 60% commission. Now he says he wants me to be a W2 with 50% commission. When I asked why, he said he's "afraid of the IRS." I have not agreed to become a W2, and I'm trying to figure out what he is trying to do because something feels very sketchy. It would be one thing if he was giving me a reason, or saying it has to do with us receiving the loan pay, but he is giving no reason. Is he trying to claim us all as W2 "employees" of the business now to fake pay us and keep it for himself? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 05:22 AM PDT The title basically. We keep written records of which employees were in contact with possible COVID-19 patients, and personal protective equipment we wore while they were here. Our employer said that when they are notified of a patient that is COVID-19 positive, they will review the sheet, and they won't notify this if they "determine we were wearing the proper personal protective equipment." The thing is, we may not have been wearing the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) the entire time they were here. For instance, I may have worn just a mask for the first 20 minutes a possible COVID-19 patient was here, but then throughout their visit I ended up wearing an N95 mask, face shield, gown, etc. The fact that I wasn't wearing all of that stuff the whole time doesn't matter, because I simply write everything I wore throughout their visit on the paper. So is this allowed? As far as I knew, there are pretty strict rules on employers not notifying at-risk staff. Are there any better resources for me to find out the answer to my question? Attorney for HOA attempting non-judicial foreclosure on my property Utah Posted: 14 May 2020 05:33 PM PDT I am expat living overseas for the past 5 years. I own a property in Utah that I have been renting out for the past 5 years. I have a property manager who takes care of the management of tenants and collecting payments. I pay the HOA fees myself through bill pay on my bank which they HOA has been cashing each month. Earlier this week I was forwarded a letter from a law firm threatening non-judicial foreclosure on my property for failure to pay outstanding balance on my HOA account. Last year I was notified that the property management firm collecting fees for the HOA had changed so I updated the name and address and they have been cashing the monthly checks of $105 I have been sending them. Apparently at some time before that the HOA fee had increased to $135 and then $145 so I have essentially been shortpaying them each month for the last year plus. They have also been assessing late fees, interest and attorney fees. The outstanding balance is now around $2,000. I've never missed a payment on a mortgage credit card or otherwise. I never received any notification about any of this and I have requested the attorney validate the debt. He responded by providing a ledger showing an outstanding balance, I then requested he provide any evidence that the HOA attempted to notify me of any rate increases or prior demands for outstanding payment. A compounding factor here is that they may have actually attempted to send the notices to the tenant and they were never forwarded to me or that the HOA did not have my current email or mailing address. I have the money to pay the debt and agree that rightfully I owe them ( I have not told this to the attorney) the increase in HOA rates but since I never received any notification I would like to settle for less than the attorney fees and less any late fees. Posted: 14 May 2020 08:27 AM PDT Location: Nevada Basically I live in an apartment complex and about two months ago they decided to install gates randomly with no warning to the tenants. This wouldn't be bad but they recently over the past 2 weeks have been locking them. The landpeople gave us ZERO warnings about the electronic locks. Last night after going to see my mother (I'm a minor, she was giving me money to eat so don't lecture me about distancing) I came back to my sister and I's apartment but they had the gate closed and, for the first time, LOCKED. It was almost 11pm and I couldn't get in! If I lived alone I would be stuck outside until a neighbor left their house! I live in the back corner too, so nobody would've even seen me outside to help. There's a bunch of other ones being locked randomly too that has forced me to take different routes before. I even had to help a pizza delivery lady find a way in because they randomly locked gates to another apartment and she didn't know what to do. They also remove any attempts to keep the gates open, like putting a towel over the lock or rocks to keep the door from closing. My apartments office has locked their doors and didn't tell people about their new, reduced office hours and it's a hit or miss if their actually inside or not. Is their anyone I can call to tell them that tenants are being locked outside with no warning and no way to get inside their homes? Thank everyone in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 08:55 AM PDT Ok so a little back story first. My father in law bought my current house in 2004 and rented it out as a side business. In 2017, my husband and I get married and move to Tucson, Arizona so he can start a new job. My father in law tell us that the previous renter of this house had moved out recently, so we move in! The first couple months we still keep getting this guys mail, no red flags, we just figure that he just hasn't gotten around to forwarding his mail yet. (For the purpose of this story, we are going to call him Adam) So about 3 months into living in this house, the cops so up to my door looking for Adam the previous renter. I let them know that I just moved to this house and he was the old renter but no longer lives here. But then it keeps happening! Cops keep showing up to my house looking for Adam, and collection agency's are calling my husbands phone asking for adam. But of course we keep telling them the same thing, he no longer lives here and we dont know who this guy is. In 2018, my FIL decided that he no longer wants this house so we end up buying from him, so now we officially own our house. We still keep Adam's mail this whole time to. But for about 2 years cops stop coming to our house looking for him, cool! That is until THIS MORNING. At 7 am today, a cop came to our door looking for Adam. The cop was questioning my husband at the door asking if he knew adam, and that Adam was not in trouble, he just wanted to "talk to him". (Umm of course we know Adam is in trouble, we are not dumb) But the cop notifies my husband that Adam registered our address as his own 2 weeks ago! I'm pretty irritated at this point, is there anything I can do to prevent Adam from using our address? Oh sidebar here, but I snooped Adam's facebook to see what this dude was about and he has a picture of my house on there as well. And I'm talking like full front picture of the front of my house showing the numbers and everything, so any stranger snooping his facebook would probably think he still lives here, should I be concerned about that or am I just being super paranoid? Any advice would be helpful. Oh and one more thing, should I tell my neighbors what's going on? I'm kinda worried about what they will think with cops showing up to my house a lot more than they should lol. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 05:26 PM PDT The officer who served an emergency VPO to spouse made a note of items in the home. (He took a few personal items and all of his firearms, noting he was leaving his .410 shotgun) When I returned during a civil standby, the same officer noted that all of spouses items were removed (someone returned) within 24 hours of VPO. (Including his shotgun) Question, would that violate VPO? There was no forced entry, Spouses items were removed, my personal documents (social security card and birth certificate, our two minor children who are also protected by VPO had their documents taken as well) my debit card and my registered hand gun was also missing. (I filed a police report for missing items). If it's not a VPO violation would this help at the hearing to continue the VPO? It was issues due to domestic violence. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 04:36 PM PDT I have a friend that has been working at a job for 3 months and has gotten 3 paychecks. They're supposed to get paid biweekly, but everytime it comes payday, there are problems and they end up giving them a paper check after bothering the manager for a week. One check was A MONTH LATE, and the employer admitted to having it and having misplaced it a month ago. Today, my friend found out that the manager had put someone else's bank information in their payroll account, but the manager told them that he'd deal with it tomorrow, and would give him some cash for noe, but they would have to pay it back. I'm trying to encourage them to find a lawyer, but they're worried that they dont have the money and they havent been keeping up with the days that they actually got the checks. [link] [comments] |
Neighbor's guest house not setback. Posted: 14 May 2020 06:57 PM PDT The owner of the house next door (a pretty shady local realtor) subdivided his property and is building a huge 5 bedroom house (complete with communal kitchen, a bathroom in each room etc). He plans on renting rooms to local college students on a month to month basis. Anyways they just started the framing and the side of the house is less than 5 feet from my fence and the back porch looks right into my bedroom. I've researched my cities requirements and it isn't set back far enough from my property line. Is there anything I can do since he's already started construction? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to push a mental health facility to improve? What are the current standards Posted: 14 May 2020 06:41 PM PDT This happened in Alabama 2019. Last year I visited a therapist and based on a journal entry from a few weeks before, I was sent to the hospital. From there I went to a mental health facility. I'd like to believe it was not up to code because it was not good. It was just a double wide trailer with 6 bedrooms, a bathroom, storage, and two offices. The same...well...turd remained in the corner of the bathroom for my 5 day stay. Our files were kept in an unlocked filing cabinet. Possessions were in an unlocked cupboard. It was day three before anyone noticed that I only had a hospital gown and offered me actual clothes. When I unfolded the shirt, a dead cockroach fell out. The staff threatened to keep me longer if I did not eat more. I can understand the concern because eating is important but I noticed that the packaged food always tasted off. I checked the date on a packet of oyster crackers and it had gone off in 2017. I don't want them shut down because I know that people need and appreciate them but I do think the standards should be higher and the place should be cleaner. [link] [comments] |

My roommate has been physically and mentally abusing me and I cant find a way out Posted: 14 May 2020 08:54 PM PDT I've been with my roommate (26m both of us) since the beginning of the year. In 5 months, he has broken 3 of my ribs, multiple black eyes, 2 broken fingers, cost me a job by showing up an is constantly breaking my belongings, is almost constantly banging on walls or smashing things in the living room to remind me hes here. I've called the cops once and he just ran out, when I called the cops again when he came back and started beating my ass again- from the number they left me- they said there was nothing to do. I filed 2 reports. I'm on the verge of suicide because this is my first stretch out of being homeless and I dont want to go back to that either. We both signed the lease. When the cops came, without him there they treated it as "boys would be boys" and he brags about that constantly (I'm 130 soaking wet, hes 250). Just, please help internet [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 11:39 AM PDT I've been told by friends to ask for prorated rent, payed meals, and assistance with the electrical bill. I've mentioned this to the landlords, and they are only offering compensation for the meals we order while the kitchen has been closed. On top of all of this, we stopped using our dishwasher when we found the mold 50+ days ago, as we believed there was a leak (there was). The dishwasher is on the lease. I was wondering what is genuinely owed to me? The full timeline: - Early march, found black mold under the cabinets and what we believed to be a dishwasher leak. - Mid March: plumber finally comes. Confirms leak in washer. - Late March: After 2 weeks of waiting for their Insurance to buy a new washer, Landlords order a washer (we are told). - Mid April (almost a month later): Landlords drag their feet and blame corona virus for inability to get new washer. This is partially true, of course, but very little effort was made. They were waiting on the old washer to be removed before checking for mold. They told us not to remove the old dishwasher ourselves. - May 1 until now: Old washer is finally removed. Mold confirmed. Mold inspectors come and spend 1 day sanding and 2 days drying the area. Test results for mold remediation take 3 days after this. Test comes back OK. Next day, Handyman comes to replace all cabinets and finds more mold on the opposing wall. Next day remediators return and start the process again. We are currently waiting on confirmation that mold is gone, then the handyman to install new cabinets. -We are now on Day 9 without a kitchen and day 50+ without a dishwasher. NOTE: Our landlord is a lawyer, so I'm nervous to ask for much else because he has already shot down prorated rent. I'd really love to avoid getting our own lawyer (or creating bad relations with our landlord), so I'm coming here to see what is the minimum I can realistically ask for without making this a legal issue. Sources or links I can send to make our point would really help. All my google searches are just very generalized articles about renters rights. Any help would be SUPREMELY appreciated, as I'm way out of my depth and don't want to fight a lawyer landlord without hard facts. Los Angeles, CA [link] [comments] |
My boss received the Covid PPV loan, now he’s trying to make me quit. Posted: 14 May 2020 08:17 AM PDT I have been working for this company for just under 2 years. The longer I've stayed the shadier my boss has gotten. When Covid hit our hours were cut by about half in the first 2 weeks. Now I'm getting maybe 10 hours a week. My wife is/was friends with the manager. We rode by her house to pick up something I needed for work and she let slip that they received the payroll loan. This made the wife very angry. She called the manager later and said that money was to retain us. This made my boss angry he had a meeting with another employee about me and made him leave his phone outside. I worked 4 hours late last night. Woke up today with missed calls saying they wanted to get my bosses tools out of my truck. They changed the office locks as well. He had now informed me I have to take a drug test (first one in the whole time I've been here). I'll pass the drug test. I believe he is trying to fire me without me being able to get unemployment. I've seen him do it before to other workers. This is in Texas, any ideas on what I should do? I believe he wants me gone because I keep asking for more hours, and about the loan. I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or I have a serious argument at this point. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 06:23 PM PDT The title says it all. I came across an account on my feed who posted pictures of a twitter DM between him and (I'm assuming) a girl who has an onlyfans. In the DM, he's revealing that he has personal information about this girl, and will show the pictures from her onlyfans account to her friends, family and church. He said that he won't release those pictures if, in her next onlyfans video, she gets on her knees and begs him not to do it, then deletes her account and all of its content. Apparently, this is the second girl he's done this to. You can see how terrified the girl is in the pictures of the dms and she even says if he does release the photos, it could drive her to suicide. He says he's doing the 'Lord's work' and is trying to abolish sex work by targeting individual women and blackmailing them. We can all agree that this is really fucked up. I know that blackmail is illegal, and that he can face serious charges for this, but I guess what I'm asking is what can I do about this legally if I don't know who the attacker is OR who he's attacking. I'm not even sure if the dm's he posted are real. They look like it, but they could be edited or staged. I reported the account and the tweets, but that won't stop him from threatening other women if it is real. So what can I do about it, if anything? What can I do to ensure an investigation into this account? Edit: the location is somewhere in the US, his account says he's either living in or from Chicago. Also, apparently he's encouraging other people to doxx and threaten sex workers, so there's that. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2020 01:06 PM PDT I've tried to contact the financial office and appealed their denial. He was verbally told that the hospital would pay and was transferred through an ambulance. He is an immigrant and so he had to sign papers at the new hospital but doesn't remember what he signed. He had to have a stint placed in his heart and was told that it couldn't wait until the gold card hospital had capacity. We have not yet been to the hospital to talk to the doctor in person due to coronavirus. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks 😊 Edit: located in Houston, TX [link] [comments] |
