Landlord's kids moved into my room during quarantine; I'm still paying rent and have to get her permission to *enter* the premises

    Posted: 03 May 2020 06:04 PM PDT

Hi Reddit! Long-time reader, first-time poster.

Hoping for advice on what actions I can take as a paying tenant, if any:

I'm a recent grad who rented a commuter bedroom last year to live closer to work. My lease has expired, so I've been going month-to-month. Back in late Feb/early March, my landlord (who is actually renting the place herself) asked me to prepay 3 additional months of rent because she needed the cash to afford her dentures. I had already prepaid a bunch of rent in January, so 3 additional months would cover me through June 2020.

Seeing that she needed help and sounded really exasperated, I took money out of my own savings account and willingly prepaid my rent out to June 2020. Unfortunately, a few days after that, shelter-in-place began, I went back to live with my mom, and I haven't lived in the commuter bedroom since.

This whole time, my rent was fully paid and I figured it'd be nice to still have access to the room should I need anything. However, when I asked for permission to come pick up personal belongings a month ago (around 4/05), she asked me to "please wait 2 weeks" because I would be "bringing foreign germs into the house". Fair, since we are in a pandemic. So I waited.

Turns out, her kids returned from college and fully moved in into my room during this time. I stopped by on Friday to grab my things (medical prescriptions, retainer, etc.), and ended up moving out entirely and willingly forfeiting my keys after seeing my belongings shoved into a corner of the bedroom I had been (and still am!) paying for.

After moving out, I sent her my notice to vacate (on 5/01), providing a full 30-days' notice and asked for my June rent back, in addition to my security deposit. I actually felt it was generous not to ask for March, April, and May back too - given that her kids had fully moved into the room without my knowing. She has completely ignored me.

I live in the Bay Area and work at a nonprofit, so rent is not cheap. It feels especially egregious that her kids have moved in while I continued to pay for the room and be told when I "can" or "cannot" enter the premises.

Reddit, is there any recourse for this situation?

I looked up California renter's rights, and understand that I have rights to my security deposit back. How can I get this back now that she's gone dark on me? And what about rent that I prepaid as her kids quietly moved in and I was told not to enter the house? At the very least, I think getting June back is reasonable, as June would be after my 30 days' notice.

    Thanks a ton in advance!

    --

tl;dr - Landlord's kids moved into my room during quarantine; I've prepaid rent through June 2020. We're month-to-month, so I could've cancelled anytime. How can I get my future month's prepaid rent back (would be after my 30 days' notice) and my security deposit? Can I ask for current prepaid rent too? (Given that her kids are already moved in?) Thank you!

[TN] I was scammed by a buyer on Fiverr and Fiverr refunded the buyer.

    Posted: 03 May 2020 10:15 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm going to make a long story short. A buyer hired me to write articles for his website. I sent him a rough draft for his approval. He never responded to me. I waited over 24 hours for a response and delivered the work. He waited over a week to file a false accusation of me violating copyright laws.

Without speaking to me about the false accusation, Fiverr refunded the customer. Now the customer is using the article on his website and is most likely profiting from the article. According to numerous sources, this client's website has a high volume of traffic. I am certain he is profiting from my work that he stole thanks to Fiverr.

I have proof the article is 100% original and unique. I tested it in many programs that confirmed the work was completely written by me.

The client is from Italy, but his hosting provider is from the United States. Can I legally force the hosting provider to remove the article? Could I or an attorney subpoena records of traffic from that page to estimate earnings from the article? Can I take legal action against Fiverr for enabling this buyer to steal from me and profit for stolen work?

High school is refusing to give students their money back for prom and other activities that aren’t happening.

    Posted: 03 May 2020 02:00 PM PDT

Due to covid-19 all school activities are cancelled, as a high school student I don't have a lot of money and would like to be refunded for these things I have no chance of doing. Apparently the venue for prom is refusing to give the deposit back, the venue and school are just going to move the stuff to next years prom to use the deposit. However as a senior I won't be at the prom next year and I feel entitled to my money back.

Employer Asking Employees to Pay Back Company during COVID Shutdown

    Posted: 03 May 2020 12:15 PM PDT

Hi all, so I was recently laid off from my job in Pennsylvania which has a total of about 15 employees. Before this, my employer sent out a mass email to all of the staff about doing a soft reopen of our stores and other general information. One thing they mentioned was how they expect all the staff members to repay the company for the tax-deducted paychecks we received while the business was shut down... money that the company received through the Paycheck Protection Program. They are planning on deducting $70 from each paycheck when people go back to work starting on May 11th.

Even though I am now laid off and don't have to repay the company, I worry for the other employees who are largely non-native English speakers and a few of them most likely undocumented. I feel that they are largely being taken advantage of and think that this is a highly illegal practice. I'm aware that the courts are pretty much closed right now but is there anything I can do on behalf of these people? I know $70 per paycheck isn't a vast sum of money but it seems very wrong to me to ask your already underpaid employees to pay back a company money that wasn't theirs to begin with.

(MA) An off duty officer in his personal vehicle attempted to pull me over, and then told me I would be receiving a ticket in the mail at the next light. Is this even legal?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 09:48 AM PDT

So here is a basic synopsis of what happened... "On may 2nd around 12pm, I was on my way back home from an appointment. I proceeded to go through the first rotary, and got in the far right lane which is a right turn only lane to the on-ramp, and as I'm turning onto it, an unmarked Black Ford F150 Platinum driven by Trooper ***, Badge number ****, proceeds to punch the acceleration from the rotary to the on-ramp, getting about 2 to 3 inches away from my rear bumper, and lays on the horn and gets visibly upset from what I can see in my rearview mirror. I proceeded to yell to him out my window "I had the right of way!" which upset him even more, so he decided to try to drive up on the side of my car when there is only one lane there at the stop sign to the highway, screaming at me to pull over and showing me a badge. At this point, I got very nervous and drove off because I thought he was impersonating an officer due to him being completely unprofessional, and he never outright said he was an officer from what I could hear. I was also very nervous considering what just happened in Canada two weeks prior by someone impersonating an officer, and got my phone ready to call the police. By the time I dialed the town police because we were almost in *** at the light at ***'s pizza, he got out of the truck at the light and walked over to mine and said "enjoy your citation" or something along those lines. ***** police told me to call the state police via 911 and report his plate number which I did, and they informed me he was indeed an officer from the other side of the state, and that I would be receiving a ticket in the mail, but they wouldn't tell me why I was being ticketed." This is the craziest situation I have ever been in, I already filed a complaint against the officer in question, which is how I got his name and badge number. Any tips AT ALL would be greatly appreciated

    EDIT- added some forgotten parts

The included story is essentially what I included in the citizens response form as a complaint against the officer in question.

EDIT 3 - I also forgot to add that the sgt I talked to, told me that the officer in question told him a complete different story than what happened, but would not tell me what the officer told him.

EDIT 4 - Seriously, I cant thank all of you enough. I contacted the ACLU in my state and told them my story, and I am just waiting to see if I receive something in the mail. All of you have been great help, and I would gladly take any more advice or suggestions if anyone has one. I'm sure the officer is going to lie at this point and try to completely screw me.. but hopefully I will be ready for it.

Family member keeps taking checks from the mail that are for me... What can I do?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:51 AM PDT

    Hello.

I live in VA, U.S. As of late, I've been getting a lot of money through the mail. Things like returns from school, tax refunds, and covid stimulus stuff. Well, my dad thinks that it's alright to just go and take checks that are coming for me right from the mailbox and deposit them. Me and him have the same name, so his bank lets him do it. He took a $2000 check recently that came in for me from my college and deposited it, then didn't say anything until months later. How can I deal with this? Do I call the police? Not really sure what to do.

Can my parents force me to pay medical bills?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 11:00 AM PDT

When I was younger, I had a run-in with the cops. After everything was under control, I was admitted into a mental hospital. The police recommended that my parents put me into the mental hopsitat, and they agreed. After I was in there for about a week, my parents found out that the fees added up to over 8,000 dollars. Now that I'm 18, my parents insist that I pay the cost. Can they do this? I live in Texas, if that helps.

Girlfriends mother filed her taxes as a business partner IRS says she owes 140k. Help

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:25 PM PDT

So my girlfriend recently went home to visit family and found a letter from the IRS saying she owes two years of back taxes. The last 6 years my girlfriend was an independent artist and worked a bartender job on the side. Her mother owns a tax business and told her she would file her taxes. Turns out her mother was giving her the money she would have got as a return from her own pocket. She was actually filing her as a business partner and saying she made 200k a year to help keep her tax bracket down. Now the IRS is claiming she owes 60k in taxes for each year. We both know nothing about tax law or how to go about fixing this issue. Her mother has done her dirty multiple times and shows no remorse for this. She basically told her to take her money out of her bank account. Where do we start on fixing this? How do we prove she didn't work for or receive money from her mothers business?

a popular sponsored YouTuber has sent his fanbase to harass me after I caught him stealing a video I made. I received death, rape, and swatting threats in which the police got involved. After contacting YouTube and waiting 5 months, nothing has happened and I still receive threats.

    Posted: 03 May 2020 06:29 PM PDT

All identifiable information has been censored

    I am from ontario Canada,

The youtuber in question is based in Ukraine

a popular YouTuber stole a video I made to use for his own channel. I was notified about it by a friend and sent a copyright strike against him. Originally after the strike we exchanged emails regarding the situation. He asked me to take the strike down but I said no because he was making money off it.

It then escalated when he made a community post with a screenshot showing my channel name saying that I was to blame for the lack of videos from him. He also falsely stated that he did credit me before and promoted me which he did not.

Since that post I have received death threats, rape threats, and swatting threats. Content warning for people looking at the screenshots

It escalated when police got involved. I had to tell them not to come to my place if they got a swatting call.

Some posts promoting my harassment were even hearted by by the youtuber himself

I tried contacting youtube through their help email and twitter support page but all they've done to "help" is tell me to report all the infringing comments which I have and send a report to the police.

Police said nothing could be done because the user is from another country and that this is YouTube's responsibility.

Youtube also said that they'd look into it but nothing has happened in 5 months and I continue to receive threats since his post is still up

At this point I don't know what to do and I'm just looking for help.

Relatiated against by employer for seeking benefits

    Posted: 03 May 2020 05:44 PM PDT

I've been working full time for this company for over a year now as a bakery manager. I just had my full time hours reduced down to part time (involuntary) I went from 37 hours to 25. In NC that qualifies for you unemployment benefits, at least partial. I applied on Saturday, Sunday afternoon I get a text message from the owner asking if I had quit. I responded by telling her no, I filed for benefits because I have a family to take care of and need to have a roof over my head. She responded by telling me my hours would now be cut even more to give those who would be appreciative of the 25 hours I got, more. I obviously have screen shots of everything, anything I can do?

Is there anything I can do to stop my husband from taking away my phone, keys, wallet, and vehicle?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 05:39 PM PDT

Yeah, I get the whole marital property thing. But do I have any property rights?

He takes away my phone if we're arguing so I can't tell anyone what's going on and keeps it for days.

He doesn't have a vehicle so he uses mine and hides the keys. I literally haven't driven for over a month because he keeps the keys from me. He doesn't allow me to have my ID or debit card.

I'm much smaller than he is, so I lose every time if I try to physically fight for my belongings. I feel like a prisoner in my own home.

If I reported a crime to city police, and they are miss handling my case, can I re-report it to county/state police?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 08:16 AM PDT

Recently I just found out that the man I'm pressing charges on for rape has family connections with the local police department that I originally pressed charges with. My phones were brought in for data recovery, and information was wiped clean off of them and they said they "couldn't recover any data", they won't even make an arrest even though we have a phone call of him admitting to having sex with me while I was unconscious. I'd hate to believe that the police department is covering it up, but he comes from a very well to do family, and his father has already paid to remove data from the internet about him once, so I don't think it would be too far of a stretch to think he would pay off an officer to mishandle the case. My question is, would it be possible for me to bring this forward to county or state police and re-report the rape at this point?

Is it illegal for a contractor to lie about having insurance?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 10:06 AM PDT

My mother had some painters over doing her walls and potentially doing some epoxy on her countertops.

I overheard the workers talking when they'd thought they were alone.

It seems they are both "under-the-table" and their boss doesn't have insurance, which he clearly told my mother he does. There is a possibility he does not even have a license, as my mother didn't ask to see it (bless her heart).

Edit: for clarification, this is in the US and AZ more specifically. It was cheap work, I'm sure, but my mother has decided to "go with her gut" on this one. Sorry everyone, I appreciate your time!!!

Fedex opened my package, stole 22.5 lbs of my items, then repackaged my items into a new box. I purchased additional insurance but I do not have proof of value since these were all my personal items that I sent to my new address for my move across the country.

    Posted: 03 May 2020 02:43 PM PDT

I just moved from CA to MA and shipped everything I own through Fedex. The first round of packages I sent had 4 boxes, which I shipped all at once. I had insured all four boxes with a declared value of $400 each. Three of the boxes arrived on time with no issues, but the fourth box (which I spent around $105 to ship) was not delivered until the following day. I could instantly tell something was wrong because the woman carrying my box to the door had no issues carrying it, and it supposedly had 46 pounds of my things in it. I opened it immediately and I could see that there were things missing. Not only that, but the box was smaller and than the original one that I sent, and the shipping label had been cut off the original box and retaped to the new, smaller box with the cardboard from the original box still attached underneath. I got a scale and weighed the box and it said that the box now weighed 23.5 pounds! I immediately called Fedex who were surprised because there was no note in their system about repackaging the box, which is required by their employees any time they need to do so. They told me to file a claim, so I did. I then get an email saying that before they can start processing my claim, I have to send them proof of value, bar codes of the merchandise, along with other paperwork. I do not have proof of value other than what I declared the value to be ($400). I shipped everything I own because I moved across the country so for the most part, I don't even remember what specifically had been in that box outside of a few items that I do happen to remember. Even for those, I have no proof of value.

Oh and in case this is important: I am listed as both the sender and receiver of the package because I sent it from myself at my old house, to myself at my new house.

Here are my questions: Is fedex still responsible for paying me back for the stolen items since I had purchased additional insurance even though I cannot provide proof of value? Is there any legal action I can take against them if they give me issues for not having proof of value? Some of the missing items meant a lot to me, and other items were pretty expensive, probably worth more than $400 total. On top of the $400, is it possible to get a refund on the shipping of that box, which was over $100, even though the remainder of my items were delivered? Obviously I paid them to ship the whole box, not to open, steal, then repackage half of my items into a new box for delivery.

I am also nervous because about I currently have 8 more packages in their system in transit to my new place, traveling the same route as the package I am currently posting about, and I don't have proof of value for the items in those boxes either. I'm really scared of getting robbed by them again.

I appreciate any input. Thank you!

    Messy Situation

    Posted: 03 May 2020 10:57 AM PDT

It's gonna be a long one and don't really know how to put it into a TL;DR format, so I apologize. Additionally, as the username suggests, this is a throwaway account being used to just seek help.

I am a young adult (18+) who moved across the US to live with my father in Indiana. I moved here at the end of May 2019. My father moved away when I was young and I thought it would be nice to try something new and build a relationship with my dad, step-mom, and two younger half siblings (they are 15 and 13). My parents were totally down with the move and told me to stay with them rent free so I can save up some money.

About 2 months into my new Indiana life, it is discovered by my step-mom that my dad has been having an affair for 6-8 months. The events that have ensued since then sound like they're ripped straight out of a bad Lifetime movie.

Since my dad was caught I have heard countless screaming matches and insults thrown between the two. Unbelievably, I've seen my father bleeding from his forehead after knocking himself out with a baseball bat (yes, I know it sounds silly. He admits to having been so mad he grabbed his autographed Mike Trout baseball bat off the wall and hitting himself with it....). I've heard numerous threats of suicide from my step-mom (at one point she supposedly held a gun to her head - I did not witness this, but believe it).

There have been bruises, holes put in walls, people running off without their phone or any word of where they went. Guns fired in the backyard at pictures of my dad and step-mom, it's seemingly neverending.

My final straw was when my parents called my siblings and I into their room and basically told us "we're going to fight for our 20 year marriage, and if you don't like it, then out some headphones on".

So I have plans to move back to my hometown, and soon. Like, I receive my final paycheck this week and am leaving. I'll be replacing my number and will be telling my parents as I'm walking out the door basically. I'll be giving my siblings a way for us to communicate, and they'll get a fair heads up of my departure.

So my question is this - what can be done for these children? They are so sweet, smart, and funny, and have unfortunately been present for nearly everything (they occasionally went to grandma's when things were suspected to get really bad). I understand the police should have been called on numerous occasions, and it was threatened... Only to have it thrown in my face that I'm trying to get someone kicked out of their own house... They don't understand it was only to get the fighting to stop.

My heart and lack of wanting to "ruin anyone's life" played into not wanting to get outsiders involved, as well as a bit of embarrassment for my parents' behavior. But now, as I'm readying to leave, I have no heart left to give.

Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am worried eventually they will just stop attempting to pay since the lease ends in August. I am so stressed out cuz this dudes dad is a cheap fuck

What do we do if he won't pay? Can I sue him for the money?

(Idaho) What's the legal way to evict my brother from the RV that I own?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 02:22 PM PDT

My brother is an addict who also struggles with mental health issues. Since early January, he has been living in a van that I converted into an RV. It has a queen sized bed, large electrical system, lights, fridge, freezer, microwave, heater with thermostat, etc. It's a home... sort of.

The van title is in my name. It's a standard vehicle title, not an RV title. I pay the insurance (added him to my policy). There's no formal agreement for this living arrangement, and he's never paid for anything.

For the first six weeks, he stayed on my driveway (entering the house maybe 10-15 minutes per day). None of his things are in my house, and he doesn't have a room inside, or anything like that. Since mid February he's spent most of his time parked on the land owned by friends, though he returns to my driveway regularly, usually for a few days at a time.

My parents have made lots of money available for treatment for him, and I'd like to force him to address his health issues and addiction issues. (This isn't the first time.) He's resistant, and may not do it willingly. There are both in-patient and out-patient options, but I'd like to understand any legal limits on my leverage: the van.

How could I legally evict him? Were he in a room in my house, my understanding is that he'd be a tenant, so I'd have to go through a full eviction process. Do similar protections apply to vehicles, including vehicles that people live in full time? Could I simply have him removed with a phone call to the police? If he simply drove off with the vehicle, could I just report it stolen?

(No, I won't make him homeless during a pandemic. I will wait until this can be done safely, whenever that may be.)

[CA]Previous employer terminated me due to closure over COVID-19. Was just sent a text saying that our PPP checks were in the mail for the last two weeks, and I'm expected to work.

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:30 PM PDT

I worked/supervised at a restaurant in California before COVID-19 took place. It's a small chain owned by a business group, who owns other restaurants as well (semi-high end, downtown areas). In mid March of 2020, the company officially closed their restaurants and sent out official letters of termination to all of their employees and benefits. I applied for and was granted unemployment insurance, and have been receiving those payments ever since.

Two weeks ago, I received a voicemail from a manager stating that they were looking for a couple (and I do mean 2-3, out of over 60) employees to come do to-go work. The work was covered before I even replied. Yesterday (May 5), my previous manager sent me a text stating "With the news of our payroll loan getting passed, all managers and supervisors are getting their full wage as of April 17th. The checks are on their way. So this means we are all expected to work." I've also received an official letter from the company, stating "The PPP program allows us to re-hire you and send you a paycheck for the next four payroll cycles, or eight weeks. The PPP payment means we are able to put you back on the payroll and you are employed by (company name)."

I tried asking my manager for clarity, stating that as far as I knew, I was terminated from the company still. He replied with "You were laid off. So yes. The check is a full two weeks pay."

My questions lie in the legality of if I'm currently an employee of this company? If I was officially terminated, how are they paying me for the weeks of April 17-May 1? Is there no re-hire process, and if there is, how has my company received PPP loans without any/little employees?

The check is on the way, what are my options? Can I ask the company to void the check, at least until I am an official employee? Do I have to accept the check right away, forcefully claiming the check on UI and possibly ending my claim without having been given notice? Can I just ignore the check, not cashing it nor claiming it on UI?

    Things to note:

-The "two weeks pay" check amounted to <$500. For two weeks normally, I would be making anywhere from $1.5-2k, working at least 40 hours a week. There are also no options for healthcare benefits.

-I loved my job. I had been with the company for 4 years, working my way up the ranks. I was a very devoted employee, even though working conditions were stressful and overtime pay was purposefully not given. While I would love to go back to exactly how everything was, it most certainly won't within the next 8 weeks.

-I live with my elderly grandfather, and my family takes care of our elderly grandmother. Both are at a considerable risk of COVID-19 due to health conditions.

Where can I report a known line child predator that has been reported to city authorities but nothing was done?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 07:20 PM PDT

Hi all, so this situation is a bit weird. There has been this guy in my hometown who has openly exposed himself to countless women on my community through Facebook messenger and has done it to some of those women who were underage at the time. Well, recently he had tried adding a 9 year old on Snapchat (her mom is my friend). Is there a federal agency or something higher up than city authorities that would take this seriously? This has been going on for roughly 10 years now and nothing has happened to him even though there has been a literal ton of proof. This is in West Virginia if that helps. Thanks in advance for any replies!

    Roommate abandoned their property (California)

    Posted: 03 May 2020 05:01 PM PDT

My (former) SO/roommate moved back to their parents' home in January to help their stepdad after heart surgery. Over the last 6 weeks they have completely stopped communicating with me and have blocked my phone number. I assume we are broken up and they are not returning to our shared apartment.

Our lease is month to month and I would like to move. My former SO has left belongings in the apartment. I wrote them a Facebook message 2 weeks ago asking them to get their belongings, but they did not respond. We are both on the lease.

What can I legally do at this point with their belongings? Most of the stuff is of relatively low value (maybe a thousand dollars worth, at most) but they also left their car. They moved over 1000 miles away so I cannot bring the items to their parents house. They have not been paying rent.

    Thank you for any advice!

Is it illegal to act like I've never previously attended college? [VA]

    Posted: 03 May 2020 05:40 PM PDT

My partner and I have recently moved to Virginia for his job, and once we've established residency long enough to qualify for in-state tuition, I'm interested in going back to school. VA has a program where you can go to an accredited community college in the state and automatically be accepted to UVA after two years to finish a four year degree that I'm very interested in.

I'm 29 now. I attended college (in a different state) from 18 - 20, and have around 60-70 credits. I dropped out for mental health reasons (and had medically withdrawn from 3 of the 4 semesters I attended, only really completing one) and my GPA from that college is super low as a result, around a 1.6 iirc? I am wondering if there are any legal repercussions to just acting as if I had never gone to college before and starting with a "blank slate" at the community college instead of the mess of seeing if any credits transfer/having to deal with the GPA.

I do not plan on taking any financial aid of any kind, if that affects matters. I do have around 12k in student loans from my previous college attempt that I am paying back, but thankfully my partner and I are in a position to pay for (in-state) tuition at both the community college and UVA out of pocket.

Out of date masks... Can I sue?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:20 PM PDT

Hi. Posting from a friends account to keep anonymous. I'll be straight to the point, can I sue? I work for a long term care facility, they have been KNOWINGLY providing us expired N95 masks that we're expected to wear for two weeks at a time. We have plenty to be given a new one more frequently. My small crew and myself are the sole caretakers for the isolated COVID-19 patients. Management is wearing masks that are in date, and do not leave their offices in fear of getting COVID-19. These masks contain mold and expired in April of 2010.
They are doing this intentionally. I have photo evidence of the masks expiration date that we have been provided with. STATE: MISSISSIPPI

[PA] Essential nursing home worker [24F] being exposed to harsh hours and pay, negligent boss taking money from workers. How do I get out?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:19 PM PDT

I've worked at in a personal care nursing home for 4 years now. Note not one day has been late or called in sick since this is a personal care home. My boss being the sole owner of it has no upper management that I can go relay my issues to.

When I started, I was making 9.50 an hour, then 6 months later she bumped me up to 10. And that is where I've stayed ever since. She makes a lot of money and does not have a separate account for paychecks for the workers and her own spending account. It's all in one and she just buys anything she wants and then complains that she might not have enough money to pay us. Last week she just bought a brand new 2020 Escalade during this whole pandemic instead of paying us more for all the extra work we have to do. Us being understaffed with 5 people for 5 shifts. If someone calls off, someone gets screwed because we have no back ups. She refuses to hire anyone, and when someone messes up it's often deflected to me. Forcing me to work in aberrant conditions.

Sometimes after a resident passes away, the family will send us, the workers, a card and a gift as a thank you. This one family in particular raise a couple thousand dollars from their churches and friends and gave it to our boss to give to us as bonuses. But, we never saw any of the money. Consistently depriving us of the gift/bonus and keeping it for herself, she will go through it and take what she wants and try to be slick about it, but the family always asks us if we got the gift so then we know that she had taken it.

Now with this pandemic my hours are really wacky. I'm not sure if it's even allowed for her to have me working like this. So Saturday night into Sunday morning, I work 11pm-7am and with my drive home, I don't get home until 8am. By the time I'm able to fall asleep it's about 9:30 am. And then I sleep until 1:30pm to get up and get ready to come back to work for 3pm-11pm. It's really exhausting on me physically and mentally. I'm an essential worker, but I feel I'm being mistreated, and I want to find a way out.
