[CT]. Cops keep showing up to home around 10:30PM-12AM looking for past tenant

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 08:06 AM PDT

This has happened a few times but I work overnight so I'm usually not home around the time they come. I was home the past two times they showed up. First time, it was only two cops. Of course they knocked really hard and I live in a small community so it woke everyone up.

Last night, I counted five cops coming to my door at approximately 11:47 PM, banging my door down, "POLICE OPEN UP". I jump out of bed and open the door. They don't even have a warrant to search my home. Ask for "XX". I say "he is the past tenant I've been here for x amount of months! I tell you guys this every time. Ask my landlord if you don't believe it. Or come back with a warrant to check yourself!"

It's becoming very disruptive for myself and my neighbors. I do not know my options. I'm young and alone with no friends or family so I do not know what to do. Any help is appreciated

My mom is illegally claiming me as dependent

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 08:28 AM PDT

I'm 23 and in college in WI. My mom lives in IL. A few years ago my mom completely cut me off from all things financial (heathcare, car insurance, tuition help, etc.) because she "couldn't support" a relationship that I was in. As of right now, the only things I receive from her are holiday gifts, the very occasional bag of groceries when she visits, and I use her information on the FAFSA because she makes significantly less than my dad.

I just found out that she is claiming me on her taxes, her reason is that she can because her income info was used for the Pell Grant. I have not received the Pell Grant in 2 years, so this is untrue. I will have to pay in a lot of money because of some other tax issues and because I cannot claim as independent. She says she will not fix her taxes because then she will have to pay in a ton of money, but this is incredibly unfair to me as I am a broke college kid and in a much worse position financially than she is.

I haven't yet filed. My question is, can I claim as independent anyway? Will that backfire on my mother or myself??

MT Highway Patrol state they can charge me with wiretapping for using dashcam.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:15 AM PDT

My dashcam recorded 2 teenagers driving recklessly while I was driving a freightliner M2 for work. I called it in. The highway patrol officer that called me back stated that since I admitted to him that I have their driving behavior on dashcam, that he can charge me with Montana Code 45-8-213. He states it's because they didn't agree to be recorded. He also wants to charge me with careless driving for flashing my high beams and sounding the air horn at them, since, according to the officer, they are "both illegal to do", and doing so is considered "aggressive behavior". wtf?? The driver claims they were "fearful for their life" when they cut me off from the right, and I flashed the headlights at them. Prior to this, they had been tailgating me with their brights on for about 20 miles on a single lane road with multiple chances to pass. The also claimed that I was speeding (governed to 65mph), brake checking without brake lights (?) and turning on my reverse lights (??). The officer told me that I can't share the video either, since they are under 18. Is this some new swatting while driving tactic?

My (M31) landlord/housemate keeps letting his daughters go into my room. How can i exit my lease? (MI)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:57 AM PDT

I live in a big house with several housemates. The homeowner lives there and his daughters (3 & 5 y/o) stay with him several times a week. I have a puppy and a cat that live with me as well.

One day i came home from work and my puppy was out of his kennel. He had eaten a ton on cat food, chewed on and destroyed some of my things, ate cat poop out of the litter box and got sick. He also pooped in his kennel over night because he ate too much. I learned that the girls had gone into my room and let him out.

I spoke to the homeowner and was very clear that i didn't want anyone entering my room for any reason without permission, especially letting my dog out of his kennel. I get that my dog is cute and they would like to play with him but i do not trust them to be careful with him.

When i come home and they are there, they want to play with him and even when my door is locked they pull on my door, put their little hand and feet under my door to try to get in. Its seriously annoying.

The other day i couldn't find my dogs favorite toy. I ended up finding it in the girls room. This pissed me off because clearly they had gone into my room again and played with my dog while i was at work.

I told the homeowner about this and his suggestion was that i talk to his daughters about it and put a lock on my door. I cant put a lock on the door because the cat needs to be able to come and go freely and besides, i shouldn't have to talk to his daughters about boundaries, that's his job.

He also allows his daughters to be naked in the house and says he is promoting body positivity. Again, i'm a 31 y/o male not related to him in anyway besides renting a room. If thats how he wants to raise his daughters, ok , but it makes me extremely uncomfortable.

He says i need to give him 60 days notice if i want to move out but i want to move out asap because he is not respecting my privacy. Hes making it sound like i need to do more to secure my privacy.

I would never enter any of my other housemates rooms without permission and then say "well put a lock on your door if you dont want me to come in".

    any advice?

    UPDATE: Planet Fitness Pennsylvania Pisser

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 06:50 PM PDT

I called and asked to speak to the manager 3 times today and she was not available and did not return my call. I called a 4th time the evening and demanded to speak to someone or I was getting in the car and waiting at the desk until someone can come talk to me. The assistant manager gets on the phone and apologizes profusely. Apparently they let the entire staff working today know about the situation. They offered 3 months free membership.

However the assistant manager claims the note left on my account did not say anything at all about pissing in a trash can. Simply to "alert the manager if this member uses the tanning rooms" which I do not believe. How would the three workers last night know about this incident that occurred 4 years ago if the note didn't specifically say those details? Those kids didn't work there when this occurred.

My stepdads best friend is a lawyer although he practices family law. I did contact him and he called the gym and let them know he is representing me from this point on. I don't expect him to do anything but maybe a lawyer calling will initiate some fear (change). He told me if I go again and they bring this up to take a photo of my record on their computer or ask for a print out. But why in the world would the employee at the desk allow me to take a photo of their computer?

I'm just so humiliated with this whole situation. I live in this town. They have my name number address and photo in their computer. I'm still just not satisfied with the situation.

Thank you everyone who reached out.

Little Sister(17) Fired After Boss Took Creepy Pictures of Her

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 01:58 PM PDT

Throwaway because my normal account has way too much information.

Backstory: My little sister works at a local retail chain (USA,OH) that sells clothes and other knick knacks, she has worked there for about 6 months and a few weeks ago she was asked by her 30 something male boss to go to the basement to help him with inventory. She didn't think much of it because that is where the stock is held and she has been asked to help with it before. When she got to the basement her boss asked her to take pictures of her (clothed) to "see how the lighting looked" she was uncomfortable but she did it anyway because he is her boss (half owner of the store or company I'm not sure which).

After it happened my sister was freaked out and asked a couple of her co-workers (all around her age) if it had happened to them, and as it turns out they had much worse happen. One girl said that he had purposefully gotten her drunk and he forcefully kissed her. Another has had multiple experiences with him slapping her butt and making explicit comments about her. Other girls have also had similar experiences to my sister where they had pictures taken of them.

When my sister got home she told my parents who were both furious and my mom went to the store and "sternly talked to" the manager who didn't really have anything to say and claimed to not have had any reports before. My dad called the company HR and they also claim that they have had no reports and that nothing was wrong. I have done some digging and I found out that the guy has had multiple reports and stuff on his record for similar things but they have all been expunged.

Since all of that happened my sister has been "off of the schedule" for over a month and her manager says that it is because it is slow, which seems to be a really nice coincidence for them.

My sister doesn't know what to do because now she is essentially out of a job, and she doesn't think she can pursue any legal action because he didn't take "explicit" pictures of her. The other girls involved also just want to move along and do not seem interested in taking any legal action. Which honestly I think is because they are afraid of being outed, and I have a feeling they haven't said anything to anyone.

I really don't know where else to turn because people like that man are fucking disgusting scum of the earth sub-humans. I feel like action needs to be taken but I just don't know if any can be. Any advice is appreciated.

My relative (14F) is receiving unsolicited nude pictures from another student at her school (18M). Would there be any legal action to take against this if it progresses?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Sorry for the formatting, I'm on mobile.

My relative (14F) is receiving unwanted naked pictures from another student in her school (18M). She has asked him to stop sending her the pictures but he has continued to send her photos. He also has continuously kept asking her to hang out with him even when she keeps declining.

I was wondering if there is any legal action we can take if he continues this behavior.

For context: We are in California.

Dentist didn’t bill my wife’s insurance in time and now they are sending us a bill.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Idaho: My wife got a root canal in November of 2018 and during that time she had two insurance providers. She called and got pre authorization from both insurance providers. She had this done at the end of 2018, and on the bill we received it showed they didn't contact insurances until the end of 2019. We never received a bill until March of 2020. When my wife called and asked why insurance didn't cover the amount and why they contacted us a year and a half later they said the person in charge of this area was had been fired for not filing claims and the primary insurance denied the claim because dental office did not submit the claim in a timely manner. We don't feel like we should be responsible for this bill , what are our options?

    Mexican Hospital Shakedown

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 11:06 AM PDT

A family member (19 y/o male in otherwise good health) became seriously ill during a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas. He was rushed by ambulance from his hotel to St. Luke's Hospital in Cabo.

He was diagnosed with a very large kidney stone blocking his kidney and was in immediate danger of sepsis. The doctors insisted on an operation but would not proceed without his parents sending approximately $10,000 in cash (while he writhed in pain in a filthy hospital bed).

The family members sent the money to the hospital and the operation occurred. Following the operation, he was given minimal pain medication, ignored for hours, soaked in blood and urine, and so on before finally being released. He has insurance but did not take out travel insurance.

He was flown to a US hospital as soon as he was stable enough to be released, but his ordeal is far from over. He now has a very serious infection and the doctors are trying to determine if the kidney stone was actually even removed at all (CT scans and MRIs are inconclusive as there's a shunt in his kidney and it's impossible to determine if the white spots on the scans is the shunt or the shunt and the stone behind it). An additional and much-needed procedure can't happen until the infection is at bay and he's more stable.

The US hospital is trying to obtain his medical records, specifically the operating room records. St. Luke's has sent his intake notes but refuses to turn over the OR notes despite numerous written appeals and phone calls over the last 36 hours.

Is there anything that his family can do to get them to turn over the records? I am considering the possibility that they'll be falsified anyway, but it would be a very valuable starting point at the least.

[Texas] Landlord wants to consume our security deposit and charge us more for repainting costs

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 06:10 PM PDT

We recently moved out of a home and spent the better part of last week cleaning before our final inspection on Saturday. In addition to getting the carpets professionally cleaned, I did some touch up paint myself as he requested. I wasn't able to make it for the final inspection due to work but my wife was there and mentioned that he wasn't satisfied with the paint touch ups. He sent us an invoice of charges that will be coming out of our security deposit that include the rent prorated to Saturday, fees for repainting the interior, and a "general cleaning" fee. This all added up to more than our security deposit and he wants another $180 on top of our $1000 deposit.

    Some key points:

-Our lease mentions using the security deposit

"During the term of this Lease or after its termination, the Landlord may charge the Tenant or make deductions from the Security Deposit for any or all of the following:

    a. repair of walls due to plugs, large nails or any unreasonable number of holes in the walls including repainting of such damaged walls;

    b. repainting required to repair the results of any other improper use or excessive damage by the Tenant; "

-We did not make any large holes or cause any kind of damage, just normal wear and tear after living in a house for 3 years; holes for nails, scuffs, etc which I touched up with paint

-The paint I used was color matched at Lowe's. I'm not saying they're a reputable source for color matching paint but it's not like I picked some random color and went to town.

-His invoice specifies the paint charges as

"Liquidated damages for painting to include the following areas: Living room; stairwell; TV area/den; and all bedrooms ($800)"

What are my options? I did some research on Texas tenant rights and it says I can't be charged for normal wear and tear. Are his charges legitimate? Can he charge me on top of my security deposit? Thanks for any advice.

Got home to find landlord changed locks and packed all my belongings into garbage bags in the basement

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:32 PM PDT

I rent a room from a guy in Massachusetts, I pay $145 a week in cash and have been renting for 10 months. The landlord is constantly coming in my room without knocking to yell at me and tell me to clean it, he goes in my room while I'm working and gets upset at me a lot because does things she sees when she goes in my room without permission.

Last night when I got home the front door lock was changed and my key didn't work. After trying for a few minutes I was let in, The landlord had three friends over for manpower, and told me that all my things were packed into trash bags and put in the basement. My room was empty. he told me to go to the basement and get my stuff out of the house. I opened the basement door leading outside and a neighbor walked up because they kept screaming at me that I was disgusting while I was starting to bring my stuff outside. The landlord shoved our neighbor backwards until he was against the wall, two of his friends were standing on either side and the fourth guy had a baseball bat and started shoving it in the neighbor's face, yelling at him "back the fuck up" and pushing his head against the wall with the bat against his face. After they moved out of the way the neighbor left and apparently called 911.

3 cop cars came and it turns out to the neighbor was recording everything from before he walked up as soon as he heard them screaming at me. His video showed him being assaulted by the landlord and his friend, and in the video you can see and here the landlord screaming about how him and his friends went through my room and packed all my things up while I was at work, landlord screams about me being an awful tenant because I've paid late in the past, he screams about coming in my room all the time and checking it while I'm at work and it shows him screaming at me that I have an hour to get all of my things out of his garage before he throws them away. The landlord was telling me to bring anything's out to the driveway when the police showed up.

The police told the landlord that I live here and I can sleep here right now, tonight. And the landlord yelled at them. The police saw the video of the landlord's friend hitting the neighbor with the bat and put him in handcuffs but the neighbor insisted he not be charged. at the end of everything, the landlord told me I could look through my stuff now and take some things and I could come back in a few days to get the rest as long as I call him with advanced notice.

I am homeless. I have no family, I don't know what I'm going to do when my phone dies. Can he really tell me I have no home like that? The police Said I could sleep of I want, to the landlord, but the landlord said no. Is it really okay for me to be homeless and find out when I get out of work and try going in my front door?

I don't have a written lease, the landlord has never given me any written paperwork of any kind. No notices or anything like that.

I sent my iPhone XS to Apple for repair in the US. It got “lost in transit”, and Apple won’t accept any of Verizon’s proof of purchase to return or replace the phone.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 07:53 PM PDT

Hey, I Sent my iPhone XS Max to Apple for a repair. The phone ended up being"lost in transit". I was asked for a proof of purchase, and I sent my contract and AppleCare statement. They declined this, so I spent several hours going back and forth with Verizon and Apple over the phone. In the end, I got around 6 documents. Each CR rep agreed that it looks sufficient, but Apple's shipping inquiries team declines it with pre written emails that don't explain anything at all, even when I ask for specifics. Finally, I was told that after sending my $1.2k phone to them that I wouldn't be getting it back, because Shipping Inquiries kept denying Proof of Purchase, and Verizon couldn't doesn't have any other documents. I've wasted countless hours on the phone, I've been paying $60 every month for three months I didn't even have the phone, I've had to use an iPhone SE during this time, and most of all, I have no clue what happened to my phone and if I will see it again. Do any of you have any insights, advise or input on how I could proceed from here? Shipping Inquiries cancelled my case(30 days limit), effectively tying my CR rep's back even more. I live in the US, but I'm not sure how I can proceed either legally or through Apple without going to small claims court, which I'd prefer not to do. Thanks for reading, if you have any input on this, or questions feel free to lmk. I appreciate it.

Edit: bot didn't catch location stated earlier, so I will add here that I live in Virginia, United States; although I bought the Phone in Texas.

Hospital reporting us to CPS because mother's urine tested positive for THC after birth of child

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 09:35 PM PDT

Texas. As the title says. Assuming baby's will also test positive. They said CPS will come either during hospital stay or to our house. We have no other skeletons. Our house is in good shape, good income, very obviously providing good environment to our children. Do we need a lawyer? What do we tell the CPS worker? Can/should we refuse to talk without a lawyer?

My husband told me he hit my six month old baby and I want to leave the state

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:05 PM PDT

I am in California and will be moving to Texas in a few days to stay with family. I have no friends or family here. I will file a good cause report with the DA in California. So hopefully that will cover me for leaving the state. They said I also need to:

For the purposes of this article, a reasonable time within which to make a report to the district attorney's office is at least 10 days and a reasonable time to commence a custody proceeding is at least 30 days. This section shall not preclude a person from making a report to the district attorney's office or commencing a custody proceeding earlier than those specified times.

Can I have a lawyer start custody proceedings without having to be in California? What's the likelihood I will have to return for divorce and custody and for how long? Is there anything else I might need to do?

We chose a new roommate, did a poor job screening, and are paying for it. What are my options?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 08:55 AM PDT

Hi all. Throwaway, obviously. Was recommended to post here from r/badroommates

EDIT: Location - Santa Barbara, California, US

I'm living in a month-to-month apartment, with 3 other people. We have a couple who share a room (25M/26F), myself (26F), and another roommate (20F), who I will refer to as Jackie for this post. Her room is kind of.. unique.

It's not a private room. It's a loft that sits above the living room, with the main "door" being made up of those paper partitions that create makeshift changing rooms. Visually it's very private, but there's no sound barrier. Just a bit about the room, but it's not the primary issue.

I originally found this place on Craigslist, which is how we found the new roommate as well. This girl seemed like she would be the most responsible, saying she had two jobs, and paying rent would be no issue, she just wanted somewhere quieter than where she was living (college housing). Also that she had a boyfriend, and they spent a lot of time at his house. Fair enough. No pets.

This is where the fuckup happens.

We took her at her word and did not demand proof of income. I see very clearly now how this was very stupid on our part, and is the entire reason we're here now. Jackie's been here for a few weeks, and we noticed right away she was getting a lot of urgent mail from the unemployment office. A LOT. I called her out on it right away, saying she told us she had two jobs.

"Oh.. right I should have told you. I quit them both, but I have a ton in savings and I've been spending every day looking for jobs." (I mostly hear her watching bad soap operas, so I highly doubt it.)

I said whatever and left it at that. We all drop off our rent checks individually with our landlord. Feeling uneasy, I texted our landlord, who is very laissez-faire in his landlord style. I asked him if he had received a rent check from her, and he said he had not.

I also texted my previous roommate to see if she'd been paid the deposit and the half-months rent when the two of them were transitioning. She said Jackie had paid the deposit, but still owes her the rent. I texted her about it, because she had told me the rent was dropped off. Her response:

"hm okay, I gave a cashiers check with money from my emerald card where my tax return goes so it's not affiliated with a bank, but I'll double check it." ......?!?!?!

Why? Is that your plan for rent each time?! DO YOU NOT EVEN HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT?

So I have no guarantee that this girl has paid rent, or will pay rent, and if we end up being responsible for her we each will have to pay an additional $233 for our rent. I already pay the most topping out at $1k each month, so as you can imagine I'm not thrilled.

On top of it all the aforementioned boyfriend is constantly here. We're a mostly female house and specifically stated in the ad we're not looking for more male energy in this house. Especially because their non-private bedroom is stacked on top of the living room and I have to hear them pillow talking each other all damn day, because they are unemployed and always fucking here. Literally every reason we chose her as a roommate ended up being false. I'm livid.

My other two roommates are out of town and I'm pissed off and not sure how to proceed. If Jackie doesn't/won't pay rent, how do I go about getting these freeloaders out of my house? Am I totally fucked?

TL;DR: Chose a new roommate and didn't demand proof of income (because we are naive af and dumb as hell!) Turns out she lied to us about having a job in the first place and while she insists she can pay rent, we aren't seeing it, but sure are seeing a lot of reg flags and excuses. Rent is 8 9 days late so far. On top of not paying rent, her boyfriend is over constantly and I don't want to listen to them feeling each other up from our living room. What are my options here?

    Apartment Condemned

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 03:12 PM PDT

I came home from work today to find that my apartment was condemned in accordance with section 108 of the 2012 international property maintenance code.

It's unawful to reside within the building and the property managers are offering zero transparency with the current situation. I've called the head office twice only to be told it is being taken care of and hung up on.

Does this break my lease agreement? Am I entitled to my security deposit and this month's rent? What steps can I take as I currently have no place to reside legally.

Auto shop closed and now the owner won’t let my dad get his truck back without a fee.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 07:06 AM PDT

    Throwaway account.

Pretty straight forward or so I think.

My dad has his classic truck being restored at a local shop. The body guy that took the job had a 50% initial payment and would have received the second half once the job was completed. Not a rush job but kind of take your time type of job.

The body guy was leasing the shop area from a guy (owner).

Somehow the body guy didn't pay the owner and was behind on payments so the owner closed up the shop and parked semi trucks by the gates and doors to the shop. My dad's truck resides inside.

The body guy told my dad he couldn't pay but if he wanted his truck back he would have to contact the owner. So he did, and the owner wants a $500 impound fee so that my dad can go in and bring his truck back home in pieces as the body guy was working on it.

The payment for the truck work was verbal and no receipts. This was a type of job like "a friend of a friend knows a guy that does body work, etc..."

My dad is very hesitant to give the owner $500 so that he can pick his truck up. He paid $2500 for the truck and paid the body guy $1000 initial payment.

What can be done other than giving this guy 500$ so that he can get his own truck back?

Side notes: The truck was purchased from someone else and has no connection to the shop owner or body guy.

My dad has the title of the truck but has yet put it on his name due to it being in non-drivable condition.

    Thoughts?

Ex-Roommate Used Me to Scam Someone - What To Do Now

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 02:33 PM PDT

Yes, I've definitely learned my lesson.

To start off, I am located in the United States

My ex-college roommate from over a year ago scammed someone on Craigslist for $350 yesterday. Yesterday, she reached out to me through text asking for a "favor" that if she could use my Venmo account to receive a payment from a Craigslist sale she had made. I didn't think anything of it because I trusted her and had never had any financial problems (or any problems at all) with her while we were roommates. She would always pay everything on time and I would have never thought she would do something like this.

Anyway- I agreed and gave her my username. She then asked me if I could do an instant transfer using Venmo and then send the $350 through Zelle to a friend of hers (who I had met before and trusted as well). Again, I thought "okay no big deal."

I was obviously wrong. This morning I received a request from the Venmo user who sent the payment with a request asking for: "refund for tickets that weren't delivered"

I texted her right away after receiving the request (this morning) and discovered she had blocked my phone number. So, then I texted her friend who I sent the money to using Zelle, and he was just as shocked saying that she has done this to him and other of his friends before, but that he didn't think she would do this again.

So I feel extremely guilty that I have been apart of her scam and extremely upset that she used me for this and put me at risk of getting in trouble for something I had no knowledge about. I never thought that this would happen, and I am unsure of what to do now.

I am wondering if anyone has advice for what I should do about this situation, is there any way that I could make this right?

tdlr; my old roommate, who I trusted, scammed someone on craigslist for $350 through my Venmo account, has blocked my number. I had no reason to think she would so something like this and feel terrible and worried, what could I do now?

Person who bought my car wants a partial refund...

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 07:58 AM PDT

Last summer I sold a 2011 Nissan Versa with 127 k miles - no warranty - as is - private sale.

The buyer (a 75 year old) had his previous car totaled in an accident - and just wanted a getting around vehicle.

The car he bought was maintained by the dealer - did the recommended stuff - there was 2-3 recalls all of which were taken care of.

The front head light (one) was out and there was a piece of plastic hanging off the front fender - nothing too serious.

I listed the car on Craigslist for a higher than normal price - figuring that who ever ended up buying the car would try and get me to come down on the price.

This guy shows up on July 1 and drives the car - he gives me a certified check (part of his payout from the insurance - he stated his old car was valued at 8k and that is what they paid him) - for the full asking price of the car.

Fast forward to November - I get a letter from him detailing things he found with the car (allegedly) and asking for $500 back from the purchase of the car. He said he basically drove it 1,000 miles and had to have it salvaged.

I did not respond to his first letter.

Now he has sent a second (same letter) asking for the same $500 -

What legal action does he have? I was honest and up front about the maintenance and mileage and indicated that since he test drove the car it was "as is"

    EDIT: in us / MN.

Car was illegally towed by a predatory towing company. Want a refund.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 03:34 PM PDT

I was parked in front of my friend's house (in a new development in California) for an hour when it got towed. The towing company said they had the right to tow any car parked in a fire lane. It is not a fire lane. The towing company said someone from the HOA called it but when I called the HOA night manager, she said she didn't call it in. When I went to pick up my car, the towing company charged me $313 and then said they actually had pre-approved permission from the HOA to tow any car they deemed towable and that they wouldn't even argue with me about it being a fire lane because they say it is and that's final. I asked for proof that it was a fire lane and they took a picture showing a sign that said "No parking - fire lane" from the perpendicular street and said it applied to the street I was on as well. From where I stand on the street, there isn't a single visible "No Parking" sign. The towing company said the city has the plans of the fire lanes. There are different towing rules to no parking zones vs fire lanes. (Like if a vehicle is given a parking violation notice and 96 hours elapse (4 days) then the vehicle can be towed.)

So today, I went to the city and the city engineers told me that the street was zoned as No Parking but not a fire lane and perhaps it's not up to code yet because it's a new development but they looked at the pictures and agreed that there was no signage. The towing company said I have to get the HOA manager to call them for a refund. The day manager of the HOA wrote me and said the homeowners are in charge of telling their guests where to park and that there's nothing she'll do about helping me get a refund. How should I go about getting my money back?

In summary, there are no visible signs or red curbs in this new development of homes. The street I was parked on was not a fire lane but it was in a no parking zone. Because it was not in a fire lane, different rules apply and therefore it was illegally towed. Just wanting the towing fees I paid to be refunded.

My rideshare driver tried to kidnap me, the support staff did nothing

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 08:50 PM PDT

    Obligatory mobile format apology

I know this sounds dramatic, but this was a terrifying experience. I usually only have normal to great experiences.

I live in Los Angeles, and took a popular rideshare (that has been under a lot of scrutiny recently) to work. I would normally walk, as it's only about 3/4 of a mile away but the trip is up a slow incline and I have a knee sprain from my soccer game last week. My boyfriend and I are also a one car household at this time, and he works much farther away from home than I do so he was using the car this morning.

Call the ride, and the car matches the description but the back doors are weird and it takes him a bit to unlock them. Whatever. I tell him that the most direct route is yada yada yada. It's a very direct route. He doesn't say anything and instead lays down on the gas in the opposite direction (I live in a neighborhood with several schools, so there are many stop signs and zebra crossings designed to for children to cross safely). I mention that this is the wrong way, and I see the GPS and he isn't following the directions, which are the same as what I was given. We get to a school crossing (thankfully this was after school had started, so there were no children around) and he blows through the stop sign at around 35 mph.

I'm nervous a bit and gently say, "hey man, that was a stop sign." He just kind of grumbles and keeps flooring it. In the opposite direction. I keep saying, "hey, this really isn't the best way to go," and he continues to ignore me, running through a yellow-into-red light across a major boulevard, heading to the freeway. My work does not require going on the freeway. He blows another stop sign and heads towards a major city in the valley. At this point, I ask him to pull over. He doesn't say anything. I start screaming to pull over and he ignores me and turns up the radio. The door is locked, but the window is open, and we are still in a pseudo residential area. I start screaming as loud as I can out of the window and kick the door and then he rolls up the window but screeches to a halt and lets me out without saying anything. He peels off with the back door still open.

At this point I am so in shock that all I can do is start walking in what I hope is the right direction (East). I placed a complaint with the support and contacted the non emergency police line and they sent an officer to meet me at my job (my coworker picked me up). I showed them the name, image, car make and model, and license plate of the driver and they said they would look into it and contact me. I haven't heard anything back.

The rideshare support only said, "here's a $5 credit and we are contacting the driver to look into it."

I know that I live in an area where I'm sure rideshare complaints are common and potentially not always truthful, but I am kind of at a loss. This was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me and I don't know how else to proceed. I feel like the rideshare higher-ups won't be helpful. In my job, I've had to deal with the police before and they aren't very helpful.

Now I'm second guessing myself and thinking I was overreacting.

Edit: repost without including the rideshare's name.

Manager at workplace won’t let me have my employee numbers to look at my pay stubs?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 09:52 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this relates to legal advice but at my workplace my paychecks have been looking lower than they should be and I've done the math and there's definitely a lot of money being taken out than usual. And I found out about the ADP app (through a coworker, I'm 19 I don't even know what that is really), and downloaded it, but it said my account was locked before I could even make it. So, I told my boss and he said I have to call administrative help. I did, they didn't answer, I left a message, they never called back to help.

I texted my boss about it, and my paychecks. All he replied was that it "seemed right to him" (the paychecks) even though I've been working more than usual and getting paid less than usual. I replied and just said okay and asked if he could help me with the ADP account next time we worked together and he never responded.

Well I'm back at work with him today and asked him for the help number again, he got mad and didn't give me the number, just handed me the store phone and it was ringing. I had to leave a message for those people again and I doubt they'll call back this time. What should I do? Something definitely seems off about what I'm getting paid but my manager is not very compliant.

Everyone is taking credit for what I do here (this is retail, we keep track of employee sales and they're all taking my sales as their own), so I'm sure I'll be fired soon for no reason anyway. But wondering I should do right now?

My School District Won't Cancel School Even Through we had over 550 Covid-19 Cases, over 20 canceled schools, and at least one canceled School District.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:03 PM PDT

Before I start I am Mobile English not my First Language.

Hello People My name is Mick. I live in Washington State. Everett School District had 3 (maybe more) different Covid-19 cases in 3 different schools. First case was was found on Friday February 28th when a boy was tested positive for Covid-19. He has a sibling that goes to another school in same District. The school was deep cleaned from 29th February to 2nd March. Someone started a petition on Change.org which has 4.5k signatures at the time of writing. It has gotten a decent amount of media traction. I recently found out that few days ago elementary school has a student and a parent tested positive for Covid-19. It again was only closed 2nd to 5th March and opened back up. Northshore School district has closed all schools and offered online school and closed all schools down. Many school have offered online school while my school has given no other options. I'm just wondering what the legality of endangering kids to Covid-19. Will be here to answer questions.
