Spectrum Cable refuse to stop sending sales reps to my door after multiple contacts to the company, as well as calling the sheriff's office twice. I am being told they can send new reps each time because each criminal trespassing notice only applies to the person, not the business.

I live in Maine. I severed ties with Spectrum when I moved. I continued to receive mail to my attention, and filled out the form on their website in early 2019 to remove myself from their mailing list. Mail finally ceased, but they then began to send their employees to my door.

I told the first two (who arrived together) they were not welcome, and that just because I asked the company to remove me from the mailing list does not mean I instead want them to come to my door. They were upset with my telling them this, but left. I work from home and make phone calls and they cause my dog to start barking, so this interrupts my work.

I presumed contact would stop. A few weeks later, another rep showed up. I told him I had already advised his company that their reps are not welcome and he is now trespassing. The rep stated, "yeah I know, but that wasn't *me*." He emphasized the "me" part of that, which told me the company was aware I told reps to leave, but planned to swap out reps and send new ones.

I called my local sheriff and the deputy told me that he could not go to Spectrum itself and serve them any sort of notice, as he could do with individuals. He said he would recommend I reach out to the company further.

I contacted Spectrum's chat (no corporate number available) and was escalated to a manager, and informed them that I have repeatedly told their agents to leave and any further agents they send are violating 17-A MRS §402 and are trespassing. I advised her I work from home and of the disruption. She verified my address and assured me that I was removed from further contacts. I saved screenshots of the chat.

Yesterday, another Spectrum agent arrived knocking at my door. I opened the door, took a picture of him, walked out and took a picture of his license plate, and called the sheriff, and asked a deputy to arrive to explain to this rep that this business cannot continue to do this. He arrived, took down the name and DOB of the rep, and said he can only issue criminal trespass notices to each rep. The Spectrum rep's manager called him and said he would be there. The agent asked for my number so the manager could call me, and I provided it to him. I advised the deputy he can meet with the manager, but if he doesn't feel I need to be around I am going back to work. He did so (I could see from the window) and I believed it resolved.

I received a call from the manager, which I thought would be apologetic. It was not. He advised me that since the house is a rental, if he takes it off the list for "service" (these are not service calls; they are sales) then no other tenants in the future could have service. I advised him that is not true, because those tenants could simply call Spectrum and change the status, since both he and the agent have told me this is a toggle-able feature in their system. He said he would not do that and I said that I hear him implying I have no rights as the tenant, and that the landlord needs to contact him, but he is not explicitly stating that; he is just stating he will not remove me from marketing because he wants to continue in spite of being told they are not welcome. He advised me he did not feel the call was productive at that point (at no point did I swear or curse) and I advised him at this point he is pushing me to a lawsuit. He said to go ahead and file my lawsuit. I told him that is never something a manager should tell a customer, and he said "yeah, hearsay buddy" and disconnected.

I am awestruck at this point. I have done everything I can think of and Spectrum has acknowledged the impact to my work, has acknowledged my multiple reports to the authorities, and because of the apparent unprofessional culture of their sales managers, they are going to continue to harass me at my residence.

Can anyone with knowledge of a person's rights in this sort of situation in Maine give me advice? I have no idea what to do at this point to avoid the continued harassment and trespassing.

Doctor sewed my vagina shut after delivering my baby, can I sue?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:55 PM PST

This might be a weird story, but I had my first child six weeks and three days ago. During delivery, I tore and had to get stitches. The doctor on call didn't tell me how many stitches I got, where he put them or even what type of tear I had. I had my six weeks check up Monday and when I finally get a room, I realize my doctor didn't have any notes or know anything about my delivery. She had to ask me if I got stitches and if the doctor on call gave me any information about them. I had to tell her I had no idea, I was out of it after delivering my son, I couldn't even hold him. When she finally gets to checking to make sure everything is healed up properly, her face changes and she tells me we have a problem. She then pulls out a notepad and begins to explain that the way my vagina was stitched caused it to heal in a weird way. She then draws the opening to my vagina and shades out the middle of the hole. To put it in a better perspective, my vagina look like the number 8, but the two holes are smaller and the line in the middle is way thicker. I have two mini holes that not even a pen tip could fit into! She tells me I have to have surgery because the problem isn't going to resolve itself. I already had a traumatic time healing from the birthing process and I now have to go back through what traumatized me to begin with. Would I be able to sue the doctor? I tried researching if this is a common thing (even though I've never heard of it) but nothing pops up other than "the husband stitch".

Edit: I forgot to mention my doctor took a picture on my phone so I could better understand what she was trying to tell me after I didn't really understand her drawing. I don't think I can post it, not that I really want to, but if I need to draw exactly what's wrong with it to get a better answer, please let me know!

I'm 32 years old and my dad is threatening to file a missing persons report.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:49 AM PST

Hi, all. I'll try to keep this short.

I do not want to disclose either locations in fear this gets out. However, this is in the USA

I moved away from an abusive home, and have rarely kept contact with my parents. They have no idea where I've moved to, and I'm trying to keep it that way. They've asked me to explain why I have had limited contact with them, some heartfelt some more manipulative, and I've agreed that I need time to write how I feel and what steps we can take to becoming a more stable family.

Well a few days have gone by and one of my parents is threatening to file a police report and claim me as missing. Knowing them, they will lie to the police and make it seem more serious than it actually is. I do not want my parents to know where I have moved to, but I have no idea what the ramifications are for being filed as missing.

Can they even do that? As I am well above adult age? Should I go to my local police and let them know what is happening? Should I tell my parents if they do file, I'll be getting legal involved and a restraining order issued, or should I keep that in the dark until it gets to that point?

    Thank you for your time.

Edit: apparently comments have been locked. I really truly appreciate everyone's time, knowledge, and kindness on this thread. Thank you all so very much.

Employer switched me from salary to hourly for my final 2 weeks, then edited my hours I clocked in for to suit what she felt she wanted to pay me, and is now threatening to take back a Christmas bonus in retaliation for confronting her about the unpaid wages.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 04:43 PM PST

I have worked for this company (a small youth sports center in Colorado) for 5 months. I recently put in my notice because I felt that I was being overworked and under-appreciated. I was doing the job of 3-4 people and when I asked multiple times to hire someone under me or as an assistant, she told me she wouldn't do it.

I didn't tell the employer the real "why" in why I was leaving because I wanted it to be a smooth transition, and I had recently heard from past employees that she has a reputation for unethical practices, especially when people decide to leave. After giving my notice, the owner told me that she was going to switch me from salary to hourly. As someone who doesn't know much about how businesses operate administratively, I was confused and wondered if she was allowed to do this. I asked if she was attempting to cut my hours (and therefore pay) by switching me. She assured me that she was not, and that my hourly pay would equal my usual salary. I still didn't understand but figured there was some reason for it.

Since she told me about the switch in the midst of a pay period, a few days of clock ins needed to be added manually by her. She told me to send her those hours via email. I did, and she told me that I no longer need to come in at my usual time for the remainder of my time working there. This felt like she was trying to cut my hours now after assuring me this would not happen. She said that she just didn't want me to have to come in early, and that I could clock in at home if I was working instead of physically coming in. She said she "doesn't expect [me] to work for free." So I did this, working half of my time at home before coming in every day, as I was told. I sent her a detailed email showing every single day's hours. Some of them had missed punches or no punches at all because of her switching me to hourly halfway through the pay period, and the email explained all this.

A couple days ago, my payroll stub came in and my hours totaled FAR less than they should have. Some of them were even edited after I had clocked in for those hours, and some were just completely different than what I told her I worked. I contacted her via email, asking her to please correct these mistakes. I went in to talk to her about this, and since she was not happy about me fighting her on the matter, she proceeded to bring up a Christmas bonus she gave me back in December. She said that she gave it to me thinking I would be there longer, and that she doesn't actually have to give anyone PTO until they're employed for 6 months. She said that if she fixes this current paycheck and pays me for the hours I worked, she will take back my Christmas bonus (which is obviously gone now considering it was deposited 2 months ago). I don't know if she can do any of this, and I don't know what I need to do to protect myself. I will be filing a complaint with the DoL but I need to be prepared for the worst since she has shown she is willing to pull anything to avoid paying me for what I worked. Please help! Thanks so much in advance everyone.

[NC] Bought a Condo that unknowingly had no drain pipe, contractor installed washer and flooded unit below.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 12:11 PM PST

So I've been dealing with this issue for a week now and have not had any guidance on where to go.

In October I purchased a Condo, the inspection report did not have any major flaws. The house came with hot / cold water lines for a washer hookup.

I paid a general contractor to remodel the kitchen, floors and install new appliances. Part of this was the washing machine. After a week of living there, the unit below me has a leak in the ceiling. After 4 different plumbers and roofers came to look at my unit, a hole was cut in the wall showing that there is NO DRAIN LINE connected to the washer box. So two loads of washing machine water were dumped on the unit below me causing water damage. So my general contractor hooked the drain line to the washer box, even though no drain line was connected to it.

I contacted my realtor asking about this and he claims that the previous seller should have disclosed this. The seller sent her management company over to inspect and told me that a PVC pipe coming out of the hot water box was the drain. My GC disagreed so I had a third party plumber inspect and then write a statement saying that the PVC pipe is not drain, it is a vent. It seems like old owner had a general handyman install that pipe and told the tenants to use it for the drain. The plumber I had come over also stated that I would be unlikely based on the layout to have a proper drain ran to the laundry room. Knowing this, I would have not bought the condo.

So now I have no drain for the washing machine. The owner of the unit below me is wanting to file on my insurance for the water damage and asbestos he found in the ceiling when the damage was inspected (5k). I obviously don't want this to happen because I would think that the contractor or the previous owner is liable. He is also getting worried about mold and has been contacting me everyday for insurance.

My realtor is advising me to not give any insurance information to the unit below me and that the previous owner or the company who installed "illegal" pipe being used a drain is liable. Then not disclosing the fact that they knowingly had a drain line not up to code. The inspector did not think to check if a drain line was there, and didn't report it.

Any advice on how to precede. I am located in NC.

Edit: Update owner below mine filed with his own insurance. Planning on finding a lawyer and having a consultation Monday or Tuesday

Involuntary mental health hold - but not suicidal!

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:05 PM PST

Long story but I called my doctor while suffering a bout of depression (primary doc not psychiatric) a couple of months after my dad died - not suffered depression before) and spoke to a nurse. She asked if I was feeling suicidal - I said no/have no weapons/thoughts of death/harming others but was feeling so low I could understand how people could feel that way.she called the police who force their way into my home and forcibly removed me (though I am a very small female and there were at least 3 maybe four officers there in my home) (I did not resist as I was told I would be handcuffed and dragged out) only questions officers asked - do you have any weapons? And "wow how much do they charge for this apartment?" Exact words there. I was placed into an ambulance and strapped down - again I did not resist at all, simply repeated "I am not suicidal". Ended up at the local hospital psych ward. Was not seen through the ER just taken to the ward - looked over by a nurse (vitals, etc) again stating I am not suicidal. Placed in the locked ward in general holding - no room just a big area filled with MANY mentally ill people. Nowhere to sit. Sat on the floor for 7-8 hours denied access to phone for hours, all my possessions and anxiety medication. My fiancée stood outside the ward but was not allowed to see me. Once finally seen by the doc the doc agreed I shouldn't be there and released me within about 5 minutes. I am pulling all records related to the event - the police have zero record of this at all, my primary only has a note saying that the police were called and the hospital is refusing to release my records until they are reviewed and signed off on by the doc who "treated" me that day.

Sorry long story but I am feeling so violated of course and cannot believe any of this is legal though it may be? It has been a while since it happened and I struggle with the fear every day, of people knocking at my door, of police, of doctors and of obtaining any psychiatric care. Do I have any recourse here? I live in New York State. I was also billed thousands for this "treatment" and ambulance service.

Neighbor's dogs attacked my friend's dogs, killed 1 on his property

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 09:04 AM PST

First time poster, big time lurker. Just wanting to help my friend out who is absolutely devastated at this moment. I'll be as short and clear as possible.

    Location: Arizona.

Friend A lives in a rented property. Neighbor B lives next door also in a rented property. Friend A has 2 small friendly dogs. Neighbor B has 2 big dogs that are considered to be an aggressive breed. Incident happened while friend A was at work. Came home to find his dogs attacked; one deceased. Took dogs to emergency vet. 1 is still living and under care; 1 didn't make it. Friend A has knocked several times on neighbor B's door, no answer. Animal care and control has been called and a report has been filed, as the police suggested. Looks like neighbor B's dogs dug a hole, broke a fence and attacked friend A's dogs in his yard and in his home before going back under the fence and hole and retreating to their own home.

I've done my research. Neighbor B rents the home. I found the rental agency. It's a big nationwide agency. I've contacted rental agency and asked for a call back. They said they would as soon as possible once they find the rental property manager of neighbor B's home.

What would you suggest my friend do, apart from contacting animal care and control? What about renter's insurance? What about landlord insurance? Do these things cover dog on dog attacks? The landlord of neighbor B's home was contacted and a message was left -- was that a smart move on our behalf to try to inform the landlord of the neighbor? I'm just trying to help since my friend is heartbroken. I loved his dogs. Really hoping the second dog survives.

Landlord says we can't flush toilet paper?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 04:05 PM PST

    Texts between Landlord and I

    Hey Reddit.

Moved into a new apartment in LA county a couple months ago and at the time we noticed smelly foam coming out of the bathroom sink. Landlord called plumber and plumber said it was the pea trap and cleaned it. Foam came back a couple days ago, this time with a clogged toilet. Soon after that, sewer water started backing up into our tub and I promptly called the landlord again who brought out the plumbers again. This time, they used a rooter to clean out the main line and things went back to normal. Yesterday, same thing happened and I notified the landlord once again, who then prompted me to never dispose of toilet paper in the toilet. Outside of countries with underdeveloped plumbing, I've never heard of this. Can they keep us from flushing toilet paper, and are we liable to continue to pay rent if we no longer have access to working plumbing because of their pipes being unable to handle toilet paper? It seems like she is trying to place the blame on the tenants when it's quite possible the building's plumbing is not up to code [she dodged the question in our texts, which I've linked to above. Please read them, they're entertaining at least.]

    Thanks in advance.

My employer shared my medical information with my coworkers and customers and now some co-workers are making jokes about it

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:57 PM PST

    Location: Minnesota

A few weeks ago I had a seizure at work. The seizure took place in a back area of the business not in the customer's view. The only employees present when it happened were me and upper management. An ambulance came and I was taken to the hospital.

I had never had a seizure before so I was off work for a week before returning. Upon my return, I realized everyone knew. All of my coworkers, along with regular customers and vendors. Everyone asks or mentions it when I interact with them. I got emails from someone working in my corporate office about it and I've literally never even met them before. Literally EVERYBODY knows. I'm honestly surprised this is the first you guys are hearing about it. I feel incredibly violated and an incredibly uncomfortable with everyone knowing personal medical information.

Then, yesterday, some of my coworkers made jokes about it in front of my general manager. I was complaining about a difficult customer I just had and one said "relax before you have another seizure" and the other pretended to have a seizure. Others laughed at this. I'm honestly not sure if my general manager did but some laughing were management.

I got upset and after a small, verbal confrontation with my manager, I decided to take the rest of the day off and left. This confrontation was nothing "fire worthy" and neither of us swore or raised our voices. My manager and I talked later last night over text message and I felt better about things. I said I would return to work as normal today but asked that nobody ask/talk/joke about it, etc. I also specifically said I didn't even want anyone to apologize or anything. I just don't want to talk about it.

Within 45 minutes of arriving to work today, a manager (not mine) came to me and asked if I had a second to talk. I legitimately did not and told him that. He just strait up ignored it and proceeded to roll in to this bull shit apology that I specially said I didn't want. I walked away at that point and spent the rest of the day basically ignoring everyone unless necessary for my job. My boss knows it happened and I was upset about it but, again, I don't want to talk about it so I asked him to please drop it.

Do I have any legal recourse here? Does HIPAA apply outside of my doctor? Can my employer tell everyone what happened because it happened at work? I am incredibly uncomfortable now and quitting is not an option I want to consider at this time.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give!

Brother died unexpectedly in a motel. Motel gave his possessions to someone *not* next of kin, and no known documentation. Is that legal??

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 05:41 PM PST

My brother unexpectedly died while staying at a motel a few days ago. I am his legal next of kin, and have begun the process of settling his estate.

We were estranged at the time, and I had so little information about the last few years of his life, I was looking for anything that would help with loose ends, as well as any items sentimental to our family.

I had very little success speaking with the motel staff over the phone, and was flat out denied the opportunity to speak with their manager (which was the suffix to my opening statement re my reason for calling them).

I advised the employee I spoke with that I was next of kin, told him I would find a solution ASAP, hopefully before this weekend (I had only just yesterday gotten the info that there were items there).

To boot, I am clear across the country from where he died.

I just rec'd word from our Trustee that someone my brother knew was given all of his things by the motel staff a few hours after I spoke with them.

Is this legal (of the motel proprietors)?

I was under the (possibly mistaken) impression that after a sudden death, currently unexplained, a place of lodging was not permitted to simply release the personal effects to anyone without appropriate documentation.

I had a call in to an attorney re attempting to liaise and claim the possessions just after speaking with the motel and advising I would make arrangements..

I'm being sued by my ex for gifts

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 03:18 PM PST

    Oklahoma, USA

The situation is that I broke up with my ex and now she is trying to sue me for my car, a tv, ps4, xbox 360, and ps2. The car was bought in cash and is in my name, I have the title and bill of sale. The TV is the most complicated, we bought it together and it was always ours. I told her she could take whatever she wanted when we first broke up and she came over multiple times and never took it. After I told her I dont want to ever see or speak to her she wanted the tv and other things and then when I denied she brought it to court. The ps4 was a gift from her to me, I have text proof that it was a gift. The xbox 360 and ps2 were hers before we met and she gave them to me as gifts, but I dont have proof of that. We were also both minors when all of these purchases took place.

Can I stop my non-employer from disclosing I was sexually assaulted?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:00 PM PST

I was doing a work trial with a potential employer, and with a mistaken sense of trust in this female boss I told her that I was sexually assaulted last year, and I'm doing weekly trauma therapy. After ten weeks, she tells me that the work trial didn't bring the expected results and I won't be hired and contrary to promises in the beginning that I'd be paid for the trial, I won't be paid because my work results weren't good enough.

Now my current partner spoke with her because it seemed unusual to receive $0 pay after getting a promise to be paid and fulfilling her requests for 10 weeks, and she said that my trauma from the sexual assault made me unreliable. This gets me worried because I trusted her to not disclose that to anyone. Is there anything I can do legally to stop her from telling others I was sexually assaulted?

Landlord being really invasive - CA

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:56 PM PST

I moved to a new apartment complex about 7 months ago and within the first month received a mandatory 24-hour notice for an inspection. I have a 12 year old lab who has severe stranger danger in his own home, so I have to stay home for inspections and take the day off of work, since the inspections are always workdays. I've had four inspections so far, a little more than one every other month, having to take the day off work, putting my career in danger and losing money, each time.

The inspections are ridiculous as well, they go through my drawers, sometimes as many as five maintenance people, and don't do any repairs. I've filmed them last month doing nothing during the inspection, and they got aggravated in the footage from me filming them in my own home. I've been told they're HUD inspections, but I checked public records and it says there are no HUD properties in the complex, and I definitely don't receive any HUD benefits.

The last one, which happened today, no one even came. Which would have been perfect if they had notified me, but they didn't. I actually texted them immediately yesterday when I got the notice, saying I'd be in trouble if I asked for work off on a day's notice and to skip my apartment since the dog was there. I pay $75/mo pet rent and the deposit was doubled for the dog. They texted me back citing the 24-hour notice law and that my presence wasn't mandatory, to which I texted them the part of the mandatory inspection notice that states if a dog is in the house the owner must be there or animal control would be called. They never texted me back, so I took the heat at work (a coworker took my shift, so I lost money but I think I'm fine), and stayed at home for no reason.

Is there any recourse for the inevitable next mandatory notice or the money lost from missing work?

[update]HVAC company suing me for the third time after they ripped me off. Need additional advice please.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 05:26 AM PST

    Last Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/bekf6s/update_hvac_company_suing_me_under_the_wrong/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Wow, so much has happened since I last posted.

The HVAC installer in Ohio sued me under the correct identity, so I filed a counterclaim. It went to small claims court and I defended myself to the absolute maximum. I pulled his permits from two different cities, tore apart his reviews, how he installed it, I got an official letter from an institute that rates systems and proved he installed a lower quality system than sold to me, got an inspection on it and it failed, showed the text of him admitting he did an unprofessional job, etc.

Well, he got a lawyer this time and they didn't let me present my case at all because they moved it up to a higher court. So I HAD to hire a lawyer to defend myself. Around November the case was mutually walked away from because of some weird stuff with the other guys lawyers having a heart attack and one leaving the firm and me not wanting to move forward with the trial. I'm not exactly sure why the other guy agreed to walk away, but he dropped the case and it was mutually walked away from.

Now it's February and the lawyer I haven't talked to in 3 months calls me up and says "hey - they're trying to sue you again unless you pay them $5,900"

This would be the third time he has sued me over the same thing. He sued me under the wrong entity originally, walked away from the last one, and is now basically extorting me with the threat of a third lawsuit.

I guess I'm just asking...what can I do at this point? I can't afford another lawyer and I still need to pay to get the HVAC system fixed after this nightmare is over.

Co-Parenting - Allowing Child To Play Outside

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:24 AM PST

    Brevard County, Fl

Ex Wife and I didn't have the best marriage, and a very nasty divorce. I have my son every Wednesday and Thursday. About two months ago my girl friend and I moved to be closer to my son so we wouldn't constantly be in the car.

Our new neighborhood is quiet. We live in the back, and there's only one road in or out. No through traffic at all, it's been nice. We have dogs, so we've met quite a few of our neighbors and go to the ever fun HOA meetings to make sure we're adjusting and meeting everyone we can. My son (8) has been so excited since we've moved because there are so many kids in the neighborhood. Whenever he meets someone new, he makes sure to introduce us, and I've been really good about getting their numbers and their parents numbers. A couple weeks ago, I let him go over to a friends house ( they live 5 houses down the street, just around the corner from where we live). Ex wife found out that our son went into someone else's house and is flipping out. Apparently she has a rule that our son cannot go into someone else's house to play unless she goes with them. Now, I have their parents number. I've met them. It's five houses away. I feel that at 8, my son should be able to go to a friends house, especially since I have their parents information, and it's the same neighborhood. Ex also doesn't want our son to play in the street unless I am out in the street too. She's threatening legal action if either thing happens again.

TL:DR Am I within my rights to allow my son (age 8) to play outside with friends? Ex also expects me to be with my son the entire time he's at a friends house, even when I know the parents. They know to stay out where I can see them if I go outside, and he always takes a cell phone with him just in case. I feel like this is an age where kids build their peer relationships, and learn how to interact. I'm worried that she'll take me to court over this and I'll never get to see my son again. I also think it's weird to constantly be a presence while they're playing. He'll never learn to be independent... I just don't want to loose my son because of this.

SSI help - wealthy family difficulties

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:04 PM PST

I was born blind since birth and I have attempted to apply for SSI - a need based government program- since 2015 several times and I just found out late last year the reason I kept getting denied and/or turned away is because there's an account in my name associated to a Trust. The Trust, I found out, only pays for educational expenses and nothing more but I have to prove that to the government/Social Security Administration. My uncle, who is the one that maintains the trust, has not been very cooperative with giving documents SSA needs to prove that the only thing that funding from the Trust was being used for is my education. It's been a very difficult process and I need advice.

10 year old told.my daughter and other classmate's they are on a Kill List she has.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:12 PM PST

I'm looking into what I can do legally to protect my child from another student. They are both 10 year's old and in 5th grade in the same classroom. The other child went around telling other students in their classroom and posting on Snapchat how she has a kill list and how my daughter is number one. She posted my daughter's name and 3 other students. the girl who wrote the kill list also hit my five-year-old son in the back on Friday at recess and told him to run into middle of street and kill himself as no one wants him around.... He and my daughter both came home Friday in tears and told me what occurred. Two other witness students who live in our neighborhood told me what happened Friday also.

I informed the other parents whom I know the phone numbers of and I tried contacting the girl's mother to inform her. I also left a message for the school principal to call me back. This was last Friday. This Monday two of the other parents and my husband went in to meet with the principal first thing in the morning. The principal didn't seem to be taking it too seriously and just kept saying that they have precautions that they take and that they have to do things correctly as per district rules. That day the principal called me and told me that the girl would be separated from my daughter but still stay in the same classroom with my daughter and the three other students who were on the same kill list while they're investigating and that my son will be watched at recess to make sure the girl is nowhere near him.

She then proceeded to call my daughter in on Tuesday and interrogate her and basically acts like her part of the story is not important and make my daughter feel very disregard it in the fact that this girl put her on a kill list and has threatened and harassed her all school year. I just need help on what laws I can use or what I can do what type of attorney I can get to bring this to the attention of the school as my daughter is in fear of going to school now.

Thanks for any advice and I apologize for the typos I am on my cell phone

Edit: I'm in Washington state sorry I forgot to add that

Also when I broughtthis to the attention of the principal with the other parents she asked that we not contact the law enforcement until they had a chance to run their investigation because apparently it can be taken as hearsay and they have to actually see the seriousness of the crime that could be committed. that made no sense to me as any threat in my book should be taken seriously thank you all for the replies and I will be going to the police department first thing in the morning to file a police report!

Home buyers demand compensation for repairs, 7 months after closing

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:50 PM PST

    Location: South Carolina

My parents sold their home 7 months ago. Any and all defects at the time of closing were listed on their disclosure forms.

Now 7 months later, the buyers have sent a certified demand letter (not on lawyer's letterhead, but lawyer is cc'd). They are demanding $600 for "previous repairs."

These "previous repairs" were not issues that were present at the time of closing. And they are actually not malfunctions now. The buyers are saying that their plumber went into the wall for a (different, new) issue, and discovered a separate area that had been repaired years ago. This plumber deemed that the old repair (which was not broken or leaking, and still worked fine) was done incorrectly and needed to be redone. Again, this is separate from the new leak. No repairs done while my parents were owners are actively malfunctioning.

So the buyers are saying they are owed because my parents didn't disclose these previous repairs. The disclosure form states that items listed should include "present defects, malfunctions, damages, conditions, or characteristics." At the time of closing everything was in working order. This plumber has just come in 7 months later and declared that several old repairs shouldn't have been repaired the way they were.

Do the buyers have any grounds to stand on with their demands for reimbursement? Should my parents respond to this letter at all, or just ignore it?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

California someone did a hit and run with a car that I sold in 2011.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:40 PM PST

I sold a car in 2011 and the buyer never registered the vehicle. It hasn't been registered since 2013 and apparently it is still under my name. I submitted a release of liability with the DMV back in 2011, but they say they have no record of it.

in 2019 it was involved in a hit and run and the insurance company is coming to me for reimbursement. I don't have the bill of sale because it was sold 8 years ago and it was lost in a move.
The vehicle code states that the owner is liable if the driver has explicit or implied consent.

I'm not the owner of the vehicle since I received cash payment for it and signed over the title to the buyer, but i guess according to the DMV I am still the owner. I guess since I handed the keys to the buyer it could be argued that I gave him implied consent to drive the car. Is there a statutory extent to an implied permission? How would they argue that 8 years after I sold a car that there is implied permissions for a driver to be driving it if I don't even know who is driving it?

    VEHICLE CODE - VEH DIVISION 9. CIVIL LIABILITY [17000 - 17714] ( Division 9 enacted by Stats. 1959, Ch. 3. )
CHAPTER 1. Civil Liability of Owners and Operators of Vehicles [17000 - 17463] ( Chapter 1 enacted by Stats. 1959, Ch. 3. )

    ARTICLE 2. Private Owners [17150 - 17159] ( Article 2 enacted by Stats. 1959, Ch. 3. )

    1. Every owner of a motor vehicle is liable and responsible for death or injury to person or property resulting from a negligent or wrongful act or omission in the operation of the motor vehicle, in the business of the owner or otherwise, by any person using or operating the same with the permission, express or implied, of the owner.

I haven’t filed taxes in about 6-7 years

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:37 PM PST

So I'm a financial idiot I know and I haven't filed taxes since I was 23 and I'm 29 now so about 6-7 years give or take.

I don't owe money as far as I know I just never filed so whatever I was going to get back I didn't.

I make relatively good money since I was about 27, 70-80k give or take

I'm terrified of prison time for tax evasion, or ridiculous fines. My wages aren't garnished now nor have I received a notice but I know one day I'll get that letter that says got you motherfucker you owe us big time and my life is ruined.

Please any help or advice is appreciated

My parent's are keeping my SSN away from me.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 03:23 PM PST

    Oregon Resident

I'm a 23 year old that's just trying to get a job. The difficulty that comes with it is both the facts that I have no driver's license and no free access to my SSN. I have asked for my SSN multiple times when I ask for it so I can apply to jobs. Instead, the most I got was my dad coming into my room, using my typing my SSN to keep me from seeing it, and then getting out of my room. I am mentally unable to take this anymore, as I'm trying to find a job that doesn't require my SSN and it's cutting my choices down to half, if not more.

    Any advice?

We’re buying a house, all parties signed the purchase agreement at the wrong price. Can the agreement be changed?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:24 PM PST

So we were in a multiple offer situation. We made an offer over asking. The sellers came back saying if we pay 3k more they'll accept. We agreed.

We signed multiple iterations of the purchase agreement, but all versions had our original offer price on it. This was last week.

Today I was looking at the contract and realized it had our original offer price on it. I pointed this out to my realtor, because 3k over the course of a mortgage isn't worth the bad karma.

My question is - is this contract binding? Can the price be changed now? We're fine paying the higher price, we're just curious what to expect.

    Edit: this is in Minnesota

Update: I'm an idiot - page 29 of the contract had an addendum with the correct price. The title company also showed the wrong price and they will update it. Good thing I'm not a lawyer, I'm terrible at reading. Thanks for the input!

    [NC] fired for being trans.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:51 AM PST

Hi, LA. I never expected to have to be posting here.

Last week, I started work at a new company, one that involves pushing people in wheelchairs around my large city airport. The company is contracted by the airport and a specific airline, and we would help their passengers get around the airport.

I loved this job. I did it well. The supervisors on the concourse I spent time training on loved me and thought I did really well. My training ended on Saturday, and I was assigned a concourse and started working. Then yesterday, I get a call to report to the office.

The two lead managers are waiting there for me. They tell me I've failed my 90 day probationary period, and to hand over my badge and uniform. They refused to tell me what I had done wrong, and knowing North Carolina is a right-to-work state, they were well within their rights to, as I understand. I remained inside the airport for a few minutes, as one of my training supervisors was attempting to find out why this had happened for me, and the managers sent security to escort me out.

I called the off-site office, and found out they had fired me for two reasons. One, being impolite to a supervisor, which I know is a lie, because I hadn't even met my concourse's supervisor until the day I'd been fired (my concourse was international flights and was divided into two parts, one of which I wasn't allowed to go in) and the managers I had met had really admired my work ethic. And reason two, because I'd been seen "using the wrong restroom". which, to me, sounds a lot like "because you're trans".

I use the woman's restroom, because I am a woman. HB2 was overturned by a federal judge last July, so using a restroom consistent with my gender orientation isn't wrong or illegal in this state any longer. The person on the phone with me from the off-site office questioned me whether my name and gender marker had been legally changed yet, and they haven't, but as far as I'm aware, that doesn't matter.

I know NC is a right to work state, and that the state's legislative history does not bode well for me as a trans woman trying to have my rights supported. My entire family is trying to get me to contact the ACLU, or something, to sue my former employers over this discriminatory termination. I'm not convinced it'll go anywhere. What do you think, LA? I need help.
