Legal Advice - Lady googled husband's side chick # and showed up at my parent's house

Lady googled husband's side chick # and showed up at my parent's house

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 12:12 PM PST

last month, a woman showed up to my parents house w her husband in tow. Banging on the door at midnight claiming my mother was sleeping w her husband. I think my parents were half awake and flabbergasted. We all laughed it off as crazy.

Today my phone is blowing up but the person keeps hanging up. Finally I call back and she says "I know it's you. Stop calling my husband. Don't make me come to your house again." And it clicks. Omg crazy lady.

I try to be friendly, she is clearly distressed, and ask how she got my number and she says she looked it up. Within the hour she is Facebook messaging my parents, threatening to go to my parents home again, and then she's texting me photos of a phone bill as her PROOF. That's when I realized it was MY OLD phone number. LIKE 2014 OLD.

But apparently anyone can Google a phone number, get a name and address and pop up at your home. Will the police do anything if I call them now? Or am I going to have to wait for her to pop up?

    ---- UPDATE

She seemed really stuck on my mom's first name. So I did some reverse searching of my own, and apparently the woman with my old phone number...... is a woman CrazyLady has met with the same first name. My mom's actual name is listed as an "associated name" on a couple of these sites.

    Wow.

Thank you all. I didn't post location bc I realized too late that I was signed into my norm acct. I will make a police report tomorrow and ask if they can just give her a call & tell her to knock it off.

She has stopped calling and messaging. My dad thinks it's funny, but my mom is concerned bc I have a young sibling. Also doesn't appreciate the trouble this woman could have caused if my dad wasn't so chill.

Also will be looking into how to remove my name and number from these sites. It's frkn scary seeing all this info on there. I've seen a couple services that you can pay to do it for you.

I hired a lawyer and she didn't show up.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST

I hired a lawyer for a case I'm involved in. She came in VERY last minute, a few days before our final hearing.... I payed her and she didn't show up. It's been since January 21st, and I asked her for my refund she said she would give it, and now I haven't heard anything from her. I've wrote, email, texted etc, and not a single reply. She's independent firm, no one above her I could ask to see what's up. What can I do?

The hospital waited 8 hours to address my ectopic pregnancy. It ruptured and I ended up with internal bleeding and surgery

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 12:31 PM PST

Hello. I need some perspective.I'm in the US in Michigan. This situation has me upset but I don't know if the way I was treated was typical. I'll try to make this succinct. I went to hospital A for severe abdominal pain at 5 weeks pregnant. Came in around 11:30 pm. They did a pelvic exam and transvaginal ultrasound. Came back and said my pregnancy was ectopic and that they needed to transfer me to a different hospital that has an obgyn. I was moved around 4a.m to the er at the second hospital. They started giving me dulaidid for the pain which was knocking out but not touching the pain. Around 7am they moved me to the ob part. The on call Dr saw me, and said he was stopping my pain meds because of risk to the fetus. I don't understand this part, because they already knew it was ectopic. I ended up in severe pain to the point where I told the nurses that the doctors just wanted me to suffer. I could barely walk and breathe, I think the nurses got me some meds after that. Finally at 2pm they did an ultrasound, saw the internal bleeding, I was in surgery by 2:30. I lost my left fallopian tube. They didn't even do blood work until 1pm, by then my hemoglobin was the lowest end of the range. Is this typical to just wait on? I feel like maybe if they had acted earlier I wouldn't have had so much bleeding at least. I asked my Dr (not the on call that saw me first), why they waited so long and she said they were waiting to get the test results from hospital A so they wouldn't have to repeat tests, and decide if they were going to give me merhyltrexate or do surgery. My doctor is acting like is no big deal, but something about this doesn't sit right with me. Any advice is appreciated greatly.

Psychiatrist witheld that a new medication would cancel out Birth Control medication.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 04:33 AM PST

Location: Wi Girlfriend is seeing a psychiatrist, she was put a new medication three months ago that apparently nullifies her BC. She was not informed and may now be pregnant. If she is pregnant, can we sue? She is not ready for a kid right now and this is causing her immense stress.

    Edit:

Thank you all for your advice and knowledge. When I wrote this I was a bit emotional, as a child right now would completely change my life plans. My gf was extremely upset as she wouldn't want to abort, didn't think she would be able to give up the baby for adoption, and isn't really ready for a child. I understand the blame lays on us and I have no intention of seeking a lawsuit.

For those curious, her pregnancy test came back negative and she thinks she missed her period due to high stress. Thank you all again!

    Snake shipped without heat.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 01:25 PM PST

I am distraught right now and need advice. I recently ordered a garter snake from a breeder in Utah. I live in Richfield Minnesota. The package (FED EX) was shipped 02/12 at 9am and was supposed to arrive by 10:30 today (02/13) but didn't get here till 2:00. When I opened the box, the snake was stiff and cold. there was no heating in the box, only foam insulation and newspaper to keep it in place. I brought it to the emergency vet and by some miracle he isn't dead yet. He has a heartbeat, but the vet couldn't see him breathing. He is staying there overnight to stay warm and get fluids, but the vet gave him 1/100 odds of living so I am not very hopeful. I am so heartbroken, and when I got in contact with the breeder he said he never puts heat in the boxes and that they ship fine. It got down to -20f degrees last night and isn't much better today. He has offered a replacement (Which I do not want if he will ship it in this condition) and how do I reclaim my vet bills (~$200 so far). Who is at fault here? the no heat is not good, but the package arrived 3 1/2 hours late so that made everything worse. Where do I go from here?

Edit: I just received a call from the vet. My snake passed away. At least he doesn't have to suffer anymore.

About to move out of my apartment in CT. Landlord is claiming I am currently in a lease despite my previous lease expiring last July and I have not signed any renewal documents. Am I still bound to a lease or am I month to month?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 02:58 PM PST

As mentioned above, my original lease expired in July 2019. My LL had asked me via email in March 2019 if we intended to renew. In response, I said "yes we'd definitely like to renew." I never received any lease renewal documents to sign until December 2019 when my LL reached out and realized we had never signed the renewal document.

Now, I'm planning on moving out at the end of this month. There is a "renewal" section in the original lease that states should a lease not be renewed, and we have not vacated, and a new tenant has not signed a lease, that the terms of the lease become month to month. I emailed my LL and informed them that we'd be moving out at the end of the month and according to the terms of the original lease, we are month to month and that we'd be completely vacated by the end of February. I also asked when we could meet to return our keys and when we could expect our security deposit back minus a standard cleaning fee (listed in the original lease as well).

He responded saying that according to the online portal we use to pay rent that they do not allow month to month tenancies so we are currently locked into the place until the end of July 2020. I went through the entire portal's site and not only is there no language dictating any lease terms (aside from lease dates which they updated to reflect an end of 7/31/2020). Our lease isn't in the portal and adding to that, the TOS of the portal dictate that use of the portal is not a legally binding agreement between LL and tenants and that a signed lease document should always be referred to for legal purposes.

So my question is, am I currently month to month or am I currently bound to an annual lease agreement?

To me, although I expressed an intention to renew the lease, since they didn't send the renewal agreement until 5 months into what would have been the renewal term, and I never signed it, along with the language within the original lease document, I believe I am month to month and am free to leave at the end of the month with no financial obligations.

As a note, there is also no language within the original lease dictating a time frame in which I'm supposed to notify them of my moving out. Also, according to CT statutes, tenants are not obligated by any time frame in which to notify LL's that they are moving out when on a month to month lease.

    Anyone have any insight?

I currently live in a transitional care facility (nursing home) and an employee damaged an expensive laptop beyond repair. Do I have an option of getting reimbursed or having my laptop replaced?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:02 PM PST

I am a paraplegic and all I really have in this world is a laptop that connects me with the world. One night while I was getting a bath, the nurse was negligent of the location of my laptop, but I had told her where it was. She accidentally poured a pan of water on it which fried the motherboard and shorted it out completely. This was a 5000$ razer blade pro that I purchased about 2 years ago. Now I don't have a computer and I am not sure what I should do. I feel like the facility/nurse is obligated to return either the amount paid for it or get a similar computer. What should or can I do? She nurse is recorded admitting to it being her fault and the reason it is destroyed. Is the business responsible for the actions of its employee's or will it single her out for restitution if I am able to gain it? I live in Alabama if that matters.

My sons father quit his job to avoid child support

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 04:12 AM PST

My sons father quit his job to avoid child support after I went through the state (Maine) to get it after he hadn't paid me for almost a yes and had built up almost 4,000 of back child support. He said he was going to go back to the courts to say he was jobless and make it so he doesn't owe child support anymore. He also said he will be working under the table to make sure he doesn't have to ever pay for him. My question is basically... will that work? He also has court coming up for punching out my car mirror in a fit of rage. He did it infront of a bank camera though so they have it on tape. He says he will never pay for that either and that my car paid for what my couldn't.

Close friend just turned 18 and tried to leave his abusive home. They told him they are still his legal guardians since he's still in high school. Is this true?

[CA] Airline cancelled flight to China due to the Coronavirus. The third-party website I bought the ticket from says I'll receive a refund in 4-6 weeks, but US Dept of Transportation says I am entitled to refund within 7 days

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 04:16 PM PST

This third-party site (think Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc) seems to be headquartered in California. Customer service is clearly outsourced.

    Email #1 received:

As your already aware of Coronavirus in China all the flights travelling via china are cancelled and no longer in operational for till the need of March by airlines and we can process a refund on this reservation which you will receive in the next 4-6 business weeks.

I responded with an excerpt from the US Dept of Transportation, which states, "If a passenger is owed a refund, an airline, travel agent, or online travel agency must process it within seven business days if the passenger paid by credit card."

    Their response:

Please be advised that after cancelling your reservation we need to send your details to the airlines to provide refund waiver then we can initiate refund from our end as it is normal procedure of refund process it will reflect back to the card-listed within 4-6 business weeks. So kindly acknowledge us to cancel this reservation and proceed further for refund.

But, since they are an "online travel agency," don't they have to refund me within 7 business days? Do I have any legal options to ensure that they do, and any recourse if they don't?

A company wants to tear down trees with migratory birds nesting. What do?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:23 PM PST

That's right. Bird law meets tree law.

There is a business near my home that wants to remodel and move the entrance to their building.

To do so, they want to cut down a beautiful stand of about a dozen large pines at the edge of a park. Many of the neighborhood residents want to stop them. They're one of the only sources of shade around the park, and some of the oldest trees in the area.

I've noticed that at least one, possibly two pairs of bluejays are nesting in the trees. Bluejays are protected under the migratory bird act as far as I can tell.

Will this work? How does one proceed if it would?

    EDIT: I'm in Massachusetts, USA.

[WA State] Neighbor has been feeding stray animals, spending $1000/month on cat food to feed the animals, one of the animals ripped open my crawl space and now my entire home smells of cats

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:51 PM PST

Neighbor is a nice elderly gentleman who claims feeding them like that is his wife's idea though she is not physically capable of feeding them.

The animals this has attracted includes two clowders of cats, a family of racoons, and according to the neighbor at least two skunks.

Everybody I've spoken to believes that it was one of the raccoons which ripped open the wire mesh covering the space which let the racoons in, which in turn let the cats in.

I called animal control, they were not helpful. Called all the pest control places on Google, they said they didn't deal with this or couldn't get somebody put there until last mid-march, found my yellow pages from 2016 and finally got somebody out there with expertise to manage the situation (one way door on the open space, gonna give anything presently under there time to vacate and assess damage

Contacted homeowners insurance, deductable is $2025

This is in Washington state, is there any additional legal remedy to this I should be anticipating needing to pursue?

University squatting on my land in NC

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:44 PM PST

    Hi LA,

I'm in NC and my husband and I live in an inherited property. The property is currently under his dad's name, inherited from husband's grandmother. She died late 2018. Recently I have been cleaning up the property and was made aware that a small chunk that is level with the road is currently used by the University that is across from our property. The house and land is about 3.5 acres, including this smaller area that Uni is using. They've apparently been occupying the space for about 5-7 years, no one is entirely sure. Both my husband and I are angry about it because there was no offer of purchase or leasing of the land, the Uni just set up a vehicle storage facility and put a gate at the road. I'm wondering if there is any way to take the land back? My FIL is hands off but would work with us as we are the ones who take care of this family home. However, I am nervous that the Uni has a stranglehold on our community as they are one of the only employers in the area. Is it worth pursuing and where would we start?

I went to HR with concerns about my bosses negligence. During the time period it was supposed to be investigated my HR rep became Director of Operations and laid me off for having a "dark cloud."

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 06:29 AM PST

So that's the gist of it. I worked as an AGM for a restaurant group. We just opened a new restaurant which takes a lot of care support and attention. My boss however was incompetent and negligent and absent for most of the time. I was the person who was there doing all the work with a schedule that wasn't sustainable. I tried to work things out directly with my boss multiple times but I got to a point where speaking with my HR rep was necessary.

After speaking with her she said the situation was going to be investigated and that I would meet with her and the CEO about the situation(which never happened). Close to two months go by and in that time the HR rep gets promoted to Director of Operations. She finally comes to the restaurant to investigate the situation. She lets me know that I'm not the only person who has commented on the incompetence and negligence of my boss and we meet about my future with the company. I felt as though I should have been promoted and she verbally told me that she can't think of any reason why I shouldn't be. It was suggested that I take some of my accrued PTO. I did and when I returned I was laid off for having a "dark cloud" over me. It just feels like I was laid off because of the issues with my direct superior that I brought to my HR rep and was supposed to be in confidence. I have never been disciplined, in fact I was nothing but praised for my work and it was expressed how valued I was within the company.

Obviously I feel like this is unjust and a lot of people around me suggest I take legal action but I've never even considered something like that before. Just thought I would throw it out in the world to help me mull things over.

    Edit: I'm in NJ.

Edit Edit: Thanks for the advice. I already filed for unemployment and have been on some interviews. By no means was this me trying to get a handout just curiosity.

Amazon didn't deliver - accusing me of receiving item, will not refund

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 06:31 AM PST

Hi all, I desperately need some advice / help if anyone is up for it with such a giant corporation I feel like I'm seriously being screwed over.

On the 30th of December, I ordered an iPhone 11 Pro (£1000+). I ordered this with next day delivery and literally watched the map as it was being delivered the next day (31st). As I was watching the screen, it had popped up with a message saying "Your item has been delivered - Handed to resident" which it 100% was not as I was waiting at the window at this point and nobody had even come.

Now, I have dealt with numerous call centre agents via chat as well as online, who offer robotic replies and contradict themselves, I have filed a police report as they have requested, with excuse after excuse as to why they say its not valid after getting 2 police reports and one stamped.

Is there anything I can do / someone can do to help me? I'm losing my mind over this and have tons of evidence of how pathetic / unhelpful / scammy / fraudy Amazon has been towards me & its seriously disgusting the way they have treated me as a customer, most likely breaking multiple consumer protection laws.

Please let me know your thoughts

    Thank you

I hit a wheel that came off of someone’s vehicle, and their insurance won’t cover my damages. Can I file a suit in small claims court?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 11:13 AM PST

While driving in rush hour traffic, a driving wheel fell off a vehicle in front of me and it ended up in the lane of traffic, causing me to hit it. My vehicle has around $5k worth of damage, and it is worth about $7k. I exchanged insurance with the driver, but their insurance company is denying the claim because they classify her tire as road debris, due to the fact that it was laying flat when I hit it. I overheard her talking on the phone with someone stating that her vehicle had been driving weird for the past few days, and she neglected to get it looked at. Do I have any standing to file a suit in small claims court? This happened in Minnesota and I only have liability coverage on my vehicle, so I can't file a claim on my own insurance. I am not injured from the accident. Thank you for any help!

Daughter was sexually assaulted at school

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 06:24 AM PST

    Cross posted from r/parenting.

My daughter (14) was working on a group project yesterday. Boy (14) was sitting next to her at a table. He kept putting his hand on her thigh under the table and she kept removing it. He ended up grabbing her breast and she pushed his hand off and when she did, he grabbed her wrist and put it on his penis. All DURING class.

My daughter is very open about all things sex/boys/girls/body related. After he did that to her, she said he held her hand there for about a minute and then the bell rang. She went straight to the guidance counselor office and told her everything. The principal called the boy to the office, where he admitted to everything. Principal then calls me and explains what happened.

Daughter comes home and she is shaking and crying still. This is two hours later. I had a very long talk with her about her feelings and what she wants to happen to the boy. She said she doesnt want him to he able to do it to anyone else and doesnt want to have to see him in school anymore.

Currently, the boy is suspended. I called the principal this morning and set up a meeting with the schools officer as well as an emergency counseling session with daughters former counselor.

I have questions... do I call CYS? Did they already? Should they have already? Daughter wants him to go to alternative schooling (which is an option for kids in our area who get in bad trouble) how do I make that happen so she doesn't see her abuser? But she also doesn't want to ruin his entire life over this. (She doesn't want to press formal charges, just doesn't want him there anymore)

Any advice on what to do next? I'm in Pennsylvania. I'm a sexual abuse survivor but mine was way different in that it was my stepfather and he's in jail and it was years ago. I don't know how it works now.

    Thank you.

UPDATE: First, thank you all for your advice. It's greatly appreciated.

My daughter's mental health is first and foremost. We have already called the sexual abuse hotline and she has spoken privately with a counselor over the phone. She has the number if she wants to call any time, she can. I also got her a referral to a regular counselor that can get her started next week.

I've spoken to the school police officer. He said it is up to us if we want to press charges or not. He said he can write it up as just a harrassment charge or indecent assault and let us know the scope of punishments for both.

I also spoke to the principal again. The abuser is still going to be in school after the suspension, but he rearranged the schedule to make it so my daughter is not in class with him. I asked about sending the boy to EFA (alternative school) and the principal said that is the next step. I also informed him that one of my daughters friends was told by the abuser that he intended to rape my daughter. He pulled that girl in and she told him the same thing. (Kudos to my daughters friend for being brave too!)

I talked all this over with my daughter and she said he has been in trouble before. He touched her friends butt last week as well. She said she wants him to know it's not okay (this boy is very popular and his family owns a business in our small town. He seems to get away with a lot.) She wants to pursue the indecent assault charge. I let her know that could mean a trial and her testifying and asked if she was up for it. She said absolutely. She's gained some strength through the day with support, when this morning she seemed very broken down. I'm so, so proud of her. She's way tougher than I give her credit for. She has a long road to healing and a fight ahead, but I'm pretty sure she's going to kick ass.

Thank you all again for your advice and guidance. It was immensely helpful!

Please help me, I don't want her to suffer any longer. It also may be notable that the account is verified

(Texas) Veterinarian Neglected to tell us about very important Post Op care resulting in my Dog's Tail getting amputated

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 06:20 PM PST

About 3 weeks ago my Massive Mastiff had an unfortunate accident when my daughter let him outside and then accidentally slammed the door on his tail. This caused his tail to be severed.

I rushed him to the emergency vet where I was presented with 2 options.

    1. Fix the tail and be very careful for him not to wag or hit it while it healed
    2. Amputate his tail leaving only about 4 inches left

I chose the first option and got his tail fixed and it cost me about $1200. Over the last 3 weeks I have been very careful for him not to wag his tail. I took him to a post op check up 3 days after surgery and they gave me an appointment for two Thursdays from then to get the stitches removed. I followed their post op care instructions down to the very last detail.

Today I went to get the sutures removed. When they removed the bandages my poor dog's tail was badly infected. The doctor then told me that I should have brought him every 3 days to the office to get the bandages replaced. I was never told that in person or in writing.

Today was the first time that I was given this information. Nowhere on the post op care sheet it mentioned that. I was not told that at his 3 day post op check out. I also mistakenly thought last Thursday was the day to get the Stitches removed and when I called and confirmed and they looked in my account they did not mention he had to come in for the bandages.

Now my poor baby is going to have another surgery to amputate the tail completely and its going to cost me another $1600.

I am livid and do not think this is fair, should I pursue legal matters as they neglected to inform me of this key post op procedure?

Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated

Edit: For the people saying the paper said to take him 2 to 3 days after the surgery, I did take him as mentioned in the paper. At that time they scheduled my appointment 2 weeks ahead and did not mention bandage replacement.

Edit 2: for the downvote troll, get a life

My landlord has not replaced my broken refrigerator since June. Can I legally withhold rent until this is fixed? What are my options?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 06:54 PM PST

I live in Portland, Oregon. (Multnomah County)

My fridge has worked on and off since I moved in. Maintenance has come and fixed it now a total of 6 times, but it continues to break again within hours.

I have submitted multiple maintenance requests online in writing (documented) and multiple emails with the owner regarding the issue. When I mentioned to her last month that I would only be paying a portion of my rent until my fridge was fully replaced, she threatened me with eviction. I paid my full rent/utilities.

I was under the impression that the fridge would be replaced last week, but once again, someone just came in and "fixed it". It started freezing everything again overnight.

I have since submitted TWO more maintenance requests (one online and one via voicemail), called my landlord and the owner, and have gotten no response.

What are my options? How do I make sure I go about this the right way?

TX- Tire mechanic from Costco stole my gun out of my car, did not catch it on video- what are my options?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 07:47 AM PST

I brought my car into Costco and told the lady that the wheel lock is in the door handle of my car, but this was not relayed to the mechanic. Mechanic searches through my trunk, see's my guns (hidden away in a seperate compartment but was discovered when looking for the wheel lock), and calls his co-worker to come over to look at them. Then you see the mechanic rummaging through the back of my vehicle, but do not catch him on video actually stealing the gun.

Am I SOL? Or is there anything I can do? Already notified Costco and filed a police report.

    Babysitter quit and blocked us

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 12:45 PM PST

So as the title says, we just lost our in home baby sitter who helped us out twice a week. No idea why, but she stopped showing up and stopped answering our calls and texts. I called her from an unfamiliar number, but as soon as she found out it was me she hung up.

The fact that she quit is annoying, but not the end of the world. What I'm concerned about is that we still owe her for one day of childcare. We can't get a hold of her so I can't give her her final payment.

If she won't answer our calls or texts, at what point is it no longer my responsibility to try to get her her last check? I just don't want her to try and come after us later down the road for money or something stupid.

We never had any type of formal contact. The pay and hours were agreed on in person and via text messages.

Edit: We're located in Md, US.

2nd Edit: She just contacted us! She replied stating she was busy and didn't say anything further. She gave me an address to mail the check, so we're all good now.

I didn't ask for a reason why she quit, that's her business. I thanked her for helping us out as long as she did and wished her well. Check will be in the mail first thing tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn't think about a lot of your suggestions and some of you brought up some good points. We never considered our messaging and calls may be harassment. We'll be sure to try and establish a better system with any future sitters we hire.

Ex husband moving in with girlfriend, sending kids to unfinished basement. Missouri

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 01:07 PM PST

Pretty much what the title says. My ex husband is moving in with his girlfriend (fiancé??) in a 660 sq foot home with two bedrooms, and one bathroom. One room for them, one room for her son, and my children are going to be sleeping in an unfinished basement, with no escape. Can he legally do this? He also is way behind on covering half their medical bills, lost his job and thus their insurance (which the divorce decree states he is to cover). He has a history of not giving them clean appropriate clothing for school (is shorts in the winter, sweaters in the summer 3 sizes too small). He often sends them to bed with no dinner as punishment and is too "busy" to feed them in the morning. Thankfully, the schools make sure they're fed on school days. I have 5 days a week with them and he has two. He constantly tells them how awful I am and how he's going to get more time with them. Sorry, this got longer than I intended. What's my next move here? Is there anything I can do? Thanks!
