Gave my two weeks and my new employer is rescinding due to "company restructuring " Posted: 11 Feb 2020 04:57 AM PST Half writing this to get advice, half to hear what outcomes I should expect. I was offered a role for a frontend dev position at a company. The company put me through 2 phone interviews, a coding project, and a 3hr in person interview, at the end of which I was offered a job the next week. I took it and signed their offer letter. Also had to go to the doctor for a drug test last week. In addition they made me sign a confidentiality agreement, which is kind of funny now. Today they called me and said due to restructuring a lot of things will be changing at the company. They weren't clear on their intentions. I had to seek clarifications and asked them to send it in writing today to both myself and my recruiter. They haven't yet. They called my recruiter and left it grey with them. Basically saying, they are taking away my offer, which I had to pry out of their HR person. I gave my two weeks last week, so I'm unemployed come Friday... I guess. My current job is decent and I never would have done this knowing. The new employer offered to reach out to my HR team at my current job. It feels too late to turn around since my current employer knows I'm willing / looking to leave. Also their off boarding has already started. I don't think going back is the right move at this point. I guess I'm curious what to do in this situation and if the new company is liable for damages. At the moment my recruiter is reaching out to gain clarifications and we will go from there tomorrow. The negligence from the new company is sort of outstanding from my point of view. Feels like this new employer is making me unemployed and do not have to face any repercussions. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 05:08 PM PST As the post says, my neighbor was venting to me the other day because we live on a higher up story in our building and we both used the freight elevator to bring up the large objects like our couches and tables when we first moved in. The freight elevator is the only elevator big enough to accommodate these pieces of furniture. She's moving out next week and can't get her furniture out of the unit because the freight elevator has been broken since October and management has told her that they don't know when it will be fixed. She then asked what they would do if she had to leave the furniture behind and they told her that they would have to pay a company to come in and break down the furniture by destroying it into smaller pieces and then removing it and charging her an exorbitant amount of money for that, most likely over $1,000. Is there any course of action here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 05:45 PM PST This is the first I've seen of an application asking these questions. Seems a bit odd that they would be asking these questions when they should not be a determining factor in me qualifying for a house. Is this a common thing? I live in Texas. Here's a snapshot of the questions. Thanks all for the help. [link] [comments] |
Neighbor Wants To Sue Anyone Who Uses Their Fireplace Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:26 AM PST I live in a community of closely spaced homes in Washington state, governed by an HOA. My neighbor has developed a sensitivity to wood smoke which has resulted in a trip to urgent care and (according to him) many sleepless nights coughing and suffering. There are four homes in very close proximity to him that regularly burn wood in the winter, and probably a dozen within 400 yards or so. He has told me he has consulted a lawyer and will bring in the EPA and sue us for creating a hazard to his health and will be seeking significant damages. He says lawyers are eager to take his case and are telling him he'll almost certainly win. On what basis would he have a case? Burning wood is legal in our city, except on high smog days. These fireplaces were here before he moved into the community, if that matters, and are a source of primary or supplemental heat for most of us. [link] [comments] |
My Mom took out student loans on my behalf when I was 17, without my knowledge, and now she’s dead. Posted: 11 Feb 2020 12:02 PM PST Hello! I'll try to keep this brief. I started University when I was 17 and received an academic scholarship to my school. I graduated 2 years ago with my degree and now I'm a master's student. This week, I received a call from a debt collector on behalf of a borrowing service, claiming that an undergraduate loan had gone into default and I owed thousands of dollars. As it turns out, when I was 17, my Mom took out student loans in my name and just had the money routed to her bank account. She also did this with military benefits I apparently received. She died three years ago. Not only can I not afford to pay this back, but now there's piling debt to my name that I didn't even know about. This is the first year I've filed taxes in the US because I was living abroad, and the service I used gives you a credit break down, and in total this amounts to $35k without interest. The collection agency is pressuring me to refinance. I'm still at university as well, so I'm not sure what I can do or even why they're collecting now. Ideally, I would like to not be held responsible for my mother's actions but I know her not being alive probably complicates things. Is there anything I can legally do here? Edit for clarity: I did not personally use any of this money. My Mom did not tell me she did this. She used all of the money for her personal spending and bills. I was kicked out shortly after I started university, so while I fortunately was out of that abusive household, unfortunately she still received three more years of money. [link] [comments] |
Social Security denied for single mother w/ Stage 4 cancer Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:12 PM PST [Texas] A family member was recently diagnosed with a severe case of stage 4 metastatic cancer and is unable to work, walk, drive, or do much of anything other than lie in agony. She is a 37-year-old single mother of a 7 year old and had very low income before diagnosis. Now she has no income other than $300 in monthly child support, which doesn't even cover car payments. She applied Social Security benefits last month, but was denied today because she received money (~$1600) from family in December to pay for rent that was 3 months behind. Where do we go from here? She has no money and will not be able to work for the foreseeable future. How does she support herself and her son now that SS was denied? Would an attorney be appropriate? The fees for one are worrisome though. This is a critical situation so your advice is much appreciated... San Antonio, Texas [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Feb 2020 07:43 AM PST I'm very upset right now, and I would like to know if there is any recourse I could take. I recently developed and planned to launch a SaaS app, and approached multiple Studios to develop an advertisement. I was quoted by 4 studios and went with the a medium priced quote by One Studio. My concern was that I wanted a professional 30-45 second advertisement to be used on Snapchat, and other platforms. In my contract it was not stated that they have the right to outsource the project. After 3-4 weeks of "shooting", I was given a product. My video was a $55 Spokeperson from fiverr, talking about our product using the script I compiled. I only noticed because the actress in the video was one of ideas we were tempted to use. The video was basic and there was no editing on their end. When I contacted the Studio, they claimed they had the right to subcontract it out to "Fiverr", yet it says nothing like that in our contract or agreement. I paid via check and I'm very upset. I also noticed alot of their bad reviews on google are buried by fake reviews causing them to have 4+ stars with over 1k reviews. The bad reviews state ran into the same issue as me. Can I take them to small claims court over this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 01:38 PM PST I am in a union and we have a union pension that has contributions that are typically paid for by the employer. Our union has agreed to terms that allow our employer to make deductions from our paychecks to cover these contributions. I have been employed with my employer for approximately 3.5 years and have paid nearly $13,000 in contributions. Our union voted to leave the pension and I have been told that as I have not been vested (5 years I believe), I have lost my money and am unable to reclaim it. Is this true? FYI: I voted no to leaving. The union is International Union of Operating Engineers. The pension is the Central Pension Fund. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 03:54 PM PST My Aunt informed me months ago that I have a trust fund set up but I was told almost 2 years late. She says there is paper work I will receive about the trust fund but that was months ago and there is no sign of it. She told me I can request money for living expenses, school, and medical. I have already received a few $2000 checks for living expenses and I was told by her there is yearly interest payouts. I am now having a baby and I asked if I could request more money for living expenses. She told me the money is not for that and now I will receive nothing until I turn 30 (im 24 now). I am suspicious about the trust fund because every year she and her family go on Disney cruises (paying for 12+ people!) and she and her kids (one of them is 25 with a three story house) are all extremely successful financially. I don't understand how I cannot receive any more money from my trust fund when I need it the most. [link] [comments] |
academic journal published bad article under my name Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:37 PM PST I'm a graduate student in the United States, currently in Illinois. I'm at the stage when I'm preparing to apply for post doctoral positions. This means that I'm just about to enter the job market and I'm trying to "get my name out there." I recently came across a very poorly written article published in a journal. The article lists me as one of two authors. I am incredibly sure that this is not just a case of two names being similar. The primary author is listed as affiliated with a Chinese university -- that university appears to be real. The article is so poorly written that neither its content, nor its abstract, nor its title make any sense. When I asked my colleagues if they understood it, several said it seemed like it had been randomly generated from a list of buzz words. Normally, I would chalk this up to just an unreputable journal publishing anything for money, but since my name is on it, I am more actionably upset. The article is published in a field related to mine and it comes up if you search my name. Since even the title is so horrid, I am embarrassed. I am also considering whether I should be concerned about the impact it may have had on my career. Could I contact a lawyer about this? Info pages for the article (non-sense title, abstract, and authors) are visible in services like Google Scholar, SCOPUS, and so on... Thanks for your time. [link] [comments] |

New landlord said we have to paint our living room and remove our AC or get out Posted: 11 Feb 2020 07:10 PM PST We get new landlord around last summer and they have wanted to evict all the current tenants in our block. For the past few months, they have been returning our rent checks and told my neighbors they have to pay it all up or leave within 3 days. We have our returned checks in case they make the same demands for us, but we got these instead. What should we do? I'm currently on my way home so i havent seen the letter myself (sister sent me a summary) and my dad is already planning on buying paint tomorrow. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 09:43 PM PST I have 20+ acres of undeveloped land that is zoned for R-1 for sale. I am certainly not rich, and the land was inherited. The land has a small creek tributary branch at one corner of the lot. The land is low, but besides 2 acres close to the creek that is too low for development, the remaining portion is buildable if certain water management issues are addressed properly. The land is in an area that is moderately to highly sought for development so we asked for $300,000. I wanted our Realtor to contact the local Wildlife Management Agency first thing because they purchase land they deem worthy of protection. Much land around us has been purchased for conservation and thought they would be interested. He told me they were not really that interested and probably would not pay more than 1/4 the asking price. I was willing to sell for less than the asking price if it would be conserved, but I cannot go that low. We were told for months that no offers were made on the land. We eventually received an offer from a developer that low balled their offer. The realtor told me that since it was the only offer, we should at least negotiate. We eventually agreed to an extra $50,000 above their offer, but with the stipulation that they are given a 60 day due diligence period. The realtor told us that counter offer contract info was exactly the same as the first with the exception of the contingencies section. I read the first contract thoroughly, but I only read the section with contingencies because I was told only that section and the sale price was what had changed. Over the next few weeks we noticed that the realtor seemed to know the developers representative fairly well. As the due diligence period was about to expire, a 2 week extension was requested, which we agreed to. Eventually 2 more extensions of 90 days and 30 days were requested in which we hesitantly agreed to only because our realtor pressured us to, as it was "the only offer we've had. " We became somewhat suspicious and started to record meetings/phone calls as we were being given conflicting information. We started looking at every little thing and noticed that the counter offer that was accepted had a much lower amount of Earnest Money than we saw on the original offer. 1st offer was $5000 earnest money, but the agreed counter offer asked for only $1000. The realtor never told us about the change but it wasn't a seemingly big deal. While approaching the closing date we had a (recoded) meeting with our broker and realtor in which we asked if they would ask for anything more if yet another extension was requested. We were told "I would ask for another $5000 earnest money, non-refundable". We were ok with that because the extension would go past Feb 28th cut-off date to apply for Greenbelt. If the land sale did not close for some reason, we could cover the $3000 tax bill for 2020 with the Earnest Money since we couldn't get the Greenbelt tax reduction. (I know that if we sold the land we would have to pay back the taxes saved on Greenbelt if the buyer decided not to also keep the Greenbelt status). Another 30 day extension was requested last week and when we read the amendments to the contract, there was not anything asking for the $5000 Earnest Money. We asked the Realtor and broker about it, they stated "we never said we would ask for $5000, I said maybe $1000." That was a lie that is backed up by a recording but I kept that to myself. So, we asked why the $1000 wasn't in the amendment and they eventually hesitantly placed in a stipulation of non-refundable earnest money totaling $1200. (Prior to requesting it to be non-refundable, the original Earnest Money was for some reason to be refunded to the buyer no matter what). Other stipulations in the amendment showed giving the buyer 72 hour Right of Refusal, and we could place the land back Active on MLS. When we were hesitant to sign, our realtor then conveniently stated that he got a call a couple of days ago from Wildlife Management about possible interest, but that they would probably low ball again. We asked him to talk to them ASAP. We left the meeting fairly angry and lied to so I began making phone calls. The first call I made to the Wildlife Management Office. I was told that they had never gotten a call from the realtor and that they had actually called him "many, many months ago, but he didn't call back until a week ago" (only a few days before the latest extension with the 72hour Right of Refusal for the buyer was signed). He went on to say that the realtor told him we were under contract and weren't taking offers, which is a lie. Since our contract was contingent, we could receive backup offers, we just couldn't accept it right now. I then stopped by a local business to talk to the owner who had expressed interest in the land to me almost a year ago (at the time, I told him to contact my realtor) and asked him if he ever called. He said he called a long time ago but never received a call back. (I should add that the business owner is a wonderful person that's from India. We also found out months after signing with our realtor that he is a MAGA type personality, but that fact doesn't necessarily mean the call was ignored because of ethnicity). After finding all this out (and a few more small issues that I haven't included) I feel like the Realtor has purposely been dodging offers from other interested buyers and neglecting to tell us about the phone calls. These are the only two I know about, but there has to be more over the span of 5 months worth of extensions in favor of the buyer. It doesn't seem likely that the only 2 people I talked to are the only 2 people he has ignored or neglected to tell us about. We think he is favoring this particular buyer and we think it's possibly due to the representative for the buyer being either a good friend, or because the representative is a beautiful woman that our divorced realtor is trying to impress. Please, if anybody has any advice for how to proceed with reporting our Realtor or whether we have enough info to proceed with anything legally, let me hear it! We would like to also know if we could be released from our contract with the realtor with the evidence/witnesses we have and if we could legally go with another buyer if the current contract was based on lies by our realtor if it is proven that he violated numerous Codes of Ethics. What can I legally do since my sons father won’t pay child support? In N.C. Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:25 PM PST In 2013 I took my oldest sons dad for child support since he did not see our son and did not want to help out. He didn't have a job so the court ordered him to pay $50 a month. The only time he has paid was when he was arrested or was served papers saying he had to pay or it was jail. That was once or twice of a lump sum of like $400. I have plenty of messages from him stating he does not care about our son and he wants to sign his rights over. Anytime I have mentioned it, he said he doesn't want to go to court because he's afraid of being arrested for back pay. When I have called my case worker, she said there's nothing they can do since he doesn't have a job. He will work a job for a month or two then quit because he knows the system. They say they can't do anything unless he has had a job for three months total. My case worker also told me there was nothing that can be done about the back pay. Which I don't believe. He owes $2,800. We just recently moved about three hours from where we were living. He is unaware of it because I have no way to contact him. He does have Facebook but he had me blocked. So I'm not sure what can be done or how to go about this. My youngest sons dad takes them both on the weekends because my oldest son doesn't know his biological dad. Please help with advice on what to do and if I should call the new county I live in or the old one. In North Carolina. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Neighbor suing my grandparents for feeding their starving dog? Posted: 11 Feb 2020 12:59 PM PST My grandparents live in LA County and currently have an ongoing issue with their neighbor next door. The houses are separated by a driveway and a brick wall, and my grandpa has been giving our leftovers (mainly meat) to the neighbor's dog because he noticed he was very thin where you could see his spine. After months of feeding him, the dog started to gain weight and looked much healthier. One day, the neighbor caught my grandpa feeding him and confronted him the next day with the dog at his doorstep. She yelled at him to stop feeding her dog, and that was that. This happened around June of last year, and ever since then my grandparents stopped giving food to the dog. My family visits my grandparents every now and then and once we were in town, we looked across the brick wall to see how the dog was doing. He looked way more underweight than before, this time, his ribs/spine/pelvis were visibly showing and he had little to no meat on his bones. I was completely shocked and left a note on their porch to feed their dog because it was obvious he was starving. I checked up on the note the next day and it was obvious the owner received it, since it was no longer there. We got home yesterday but stayed for 5 days, every day I would go check on this dog and he wouldn't get any better. I offered him some meat every other day but was scared of getting caught by the neighbor too. My mom wouldn't let me call animal control because she believes that the dog is starving itself on purpose in hopes my grandpa would feed it more human food, that he decides to not eat his dog food anymore. The issue with this is that the dog is kept outside the majority of the time and I don't believe he has access to food OR water, since I've never seen it personally. He also isn't allowed in the house unless people are over, at least this is from what I noticed. My mom was really angry that I called animal control and that they opened an investigation since there were actually a lot of reports from different people. She insists that the neighbors could sue my grandparents for turning their dog into an extreme picky eater, but my grandparents only fed their dog when they saw he was skinny as well. My question is, could my grandparents really be sued by these neighbors? Because at the end of the day I was given an ultimatum to either let the dog die or to call animal control and notify them, even if my grandparents were at risk for a court case. I just want to know what my neighbors could sue my grandparents for legally, and if a situation like this has happened before (dog turns anorexic because he wants human food more than dog food?). Thank you. P.S. When I say that the dog is only allowed inside when people are over, I don't mean just the owner or an owner's friend. It seems he is only allowed inside when there are 3-4 cars in their driveway, and I'm sure the person taking care of him at the moment is the dog owner's mom. Since the actual owner seems to only visit him on Fridays-Saturday's. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 07:41 PM PST My family's dog escaped from the yard on January 26th. She has done that before, but always comes back home. We spent a few days looking for her around the neighborhood but didn't find her and assumed that someone had found her and taken her home. She is 4 years old, a chihuahua mix, and not microchipped. She was also not wearing a collar. Fast forward to today, my mom was checking social media outlets and found out someone posted on Nextdoor saying they found a dog that matched our description on January 27. We then found out they gave the dog to a local rescue. We called the rescue today and they said they've placed our dog in a foster family that intends to adopt her fully at the end of the week. My mom says I have vet proof and pictures/videos that that's our dog. The rescue essentially says their hands are tied, they can't give us any information on who the new family is, and they're sorry. Do I have a legal right to find out who effectively stole my dog? Edit: in Memphis, TN [link] [comments] |
School District refuses to pay me for work I'm doing for them without me paying a $60 hiring fee Posted: 11 Feb 2020 02:40 PM PST Throw-away since my account is active in identifying subs. I have been working for a local school district (Washington, USA) for several months now on the contingent that I would be paid for my work. District keeps changing the agreement. I was originally told I wouldn't have to be hired to be paid. Now they're saying that not only do I have to be hired, I also have to pay a $60 fee to complete the hiring process. I told them I wasn't comfortable with that on principle and could they waive the fee or find a budget somewhere to cover it. They basically said if I don't pay the fee, they won't pay me for the work I've already done. Because I was naive when I started, I didn't get a contract, and I haven't been hired as an employee. So far I've done over $2600 worth of work for them and am still working in my position. Will an attorney even take my case since I don't have a contract (I do have emails, etc), and if so, is an employment attorney the right area of law even though I'm not technically an employee? All legal know-how appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:10 PM PST I work in a call center for a company I cannot mention here (obviously), in Texas, however what I can tell you is that they sell magazine subscriptions, as well as books, on health issues from some of the most recognizable and reputable sources in medicine today. Every day almost half of the 75+ calls I receive are from people complaining that they never ordered the books or subscriptions they are receiving bills for. When I ask my supervisors about this, they claim that most of these customers' complaints are caused by mail-in offers that may provide a free subscription or book, but in the fine-print sign customers up for recurring charges on their account, often for unrelated products or subscriptions. While that seems like a decent answer, often I will have callers that object to have ever sending in any offers for the products or subscriptions they are being billed for. Sometimes I will come across accounts that have paid for one subscription, yet they are being sent invoices for five additional subscriptions, or sometimes being billed for the same subscription twice. Sometimes an account that has no "comments" (we are supposed to make comments on accounts for anything they have ordered) will be being billed for five different subscriptions and three books at $28.90 each that they swear up and down they have never asked for. Ordinarily I would be inclined to believe my supervisors, that these people are accidentally signing up for something they didn't realize they were. However, for some of these accounts, the amount being billed to them is absolutely outrageous, and the comments indicate that there has never been any correspondence between us and the customer. Also, I am more inclined to believe the 20+ calls a day claiming the contrary than my supervisors. If what they are doing is not illegal, it should be. They purposely target the elderly, and often we receive payments from people claiming they never ordered the item, but are so afraid of it affecting their credit score, they send the money in anyways. I'm not so much looking for legal advice as I am asking if these practices are legal at all. I am on my way out to a better company, I only took the job after being laid off and badly needing the money, however I feel they should be reported to the FTC. I am wondering if this is something I should do, or should I just leave it alone? Edit: Clarity, and: Another thing inclining me to believe these customers are my supervisors insistence that we do not fight any of these claims, and instead just clear all charges from the account. If what we are doing is on the up and up, and these customers have been signed up for these products, why would we not ask that these customers pay their bill? Instead we are told to just apologize and clear all balances from the account. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:32 PM PST I live in Seattle, Washington. I moved into my apartment in October, and within weeks of moving noticed mold on window seals. We also noticed evidence of recent painting. My partner and I promptly treated with bleach, but within days more mold appeared. We bought dehumidifiers that seemed to help. The dehumidifiers helped until we had a record breaking day of rain and the windows, due to poor seals, started leaking water into our apartment. I'm talking have to line our windows with towels and then replace them while the rain persisted. We emailed our landlord, and a repair Person came out to re caulk the windows. We were told both the inside and outside would be resealed that day. The outside was sealed weeks later. Since then our mold problem has only gotten worse. We have storage space under our bed wear hundreds of dollars worth of gear has been damaged. We found mold corners of the the exterior walls in our bedroom. Continued to find mold on window seals We placed damp away products in every nook and cranny we could find and even those didn't help. We went to our landlord on 2/10, after we had written a document stating all the mold and the things we did to treat it, and collected photos of all our damage. She said we could move into another unit. She showed us two units. One identical to ours, in both rent and design. BUT it had mold in it. And another unit, recently renovated, that was almost 100 dollars more, and she asked us to sign a new one year lease. I feel like it should be, or is illegal. To ask us to move then requires more money and time from us. We also had our mold tested and are waiti no for results. Does anyone have any advice as to how we can get the apartment without mold for no extra cost and not having to sign a new lease? Let me know if there is any info you think might be important. Car purchase and dealer is not honoring the sales contract Posted: 11 Feb 2020 07:30 PM PST Boston Ma. US is the location and i really need some clarity on my stance with a situation I found myself in today. I was negotiating a purchase on a truck or suv at a chevy dealer. The suv was priced slightly higher then the truck and I was not willing to pay the price we were negotiating for the suv. So I knowingly verbally agreed to purchase the truck. After sitting down with the financing department they ran my credit and got approval for all the prices we agreed upon. The only problem was the financing information and all sales documents that were signed by myself and the dealer was for the suv. So I essentially got the SUV I wanted for the truck price. After they noticed the error I was walking out the door and now they are not willing to honor the sale. If I have all the contracts signed are they obligated to sell me the suv for that price since it's written and financed with signatures on all paperwork? Thank you for your help and I hope I was as clear as possible [link] [comments] |
Found out my therapist has a suspended license. What do I do? (Michigan) Posted: 11 Feb 2020 01:52 PM PST So basically I found this guy online with little to no reviews but he instantly reached out to me when I sent out an email to his company saying I am in need of a therapist. He texted me right away saying he will call me as soon as possible and to hang in there. He called me and talked to me on the phone for 25 minutes and told me about his expertise and how he can help me and although he was very confident and cocky with his work and what he has accomplished, he seemed to care about helping me. The other doctor I reached out to told me he can't take any new clients for another couple of months so I told myself to give option A a shot. He eventually told me he's out of network because he doesn't like "dealing with insurance companies." But if I have a certain insurance company (which I do) then he can give me receipts for me to submit a claim for reimbursement. I thought it was a bit weird but I negotiated a price I felt comfortable with. Fast forward to my first appointment and I go to his office which is a small ranch styled office space with a few rooms inside but there is no secretary or clerk or anybody to assist me. There was a stack of papers for me to fill out that was very poorly printed out and very hard to read. After trying my best to fill it out (because it was so hard to read) he eventually came out of his office to greet me. He was wearing baggy cargo pants and a hoodie, not sure if it matters but he just did not look like a professional to me. He told me he is very casual and likes to feel comfortable. Without getting too into what we talked about, he was very focused on me going on adderall to assist with the ADHD he is almost certain I have. He has brought up adderall plenty of times and told me about tons of people who he sent over to a well known doctor claiming they have ADHD and his diagnoses was never reversed. Like I said, this guy loves to brag and talk about himself. To be honest, some of the things he said that is most common with people with ADHD sounded a lot like what I have experienced personally. All around he is a very nice guy who seems very intelligent and understanding of what I am going through but I still decided to do some research on him. He also told me if I see anything "fishy" online then I should confront him because "there's a lot of BS" out there.. I found the following disciplinary actions online:
I looked him up on the LARA website and found out he is currently suspended. I already paid this guy $150 bucks to see me twice and I can't help but feel cheated and uneasy about everything. What actions can/should I take? [link] [comments] |
Rental property has become uninhabitable Posted: 11 Feb 2020 04:58 PM PST I rent a small house in Oregon, outside of Portland. A few days ago, our septic tank collapsed. The landlords sent someone to fix it and we thought it was okay. Today, I get a call from the landlord that says we are going to have to move out, since they're unable to fix it fully. (They built something a barrier around it to stop the collapse, so no waste would seep out, but it is not sealed and will overflow with rain water.) They say they can't fix it, and are hoping this issue will pressure the city into letting them connect the property to the city's sewer. For what it is worth, I think they probably could fix it, but don't want to, since they were already planning to get it connected to the city-- and have just been waiting on clearance. I am just wondering about tenant rights -- and whether there is anything I can do. Are we entitled to anything from the landlord? It is going to be difficult and expensive to find a new place and move, without any warning. I'd also just appreciate any other advice you might have. tl;dr My rental property has become uninhabitable, we're being asked to leave, and I don't know whether we have any rights or recourse. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
