My sisters 9year old friend took nude photos of my sister and distributed them on snapchat to adult men. NSFW

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 01:15 PM PST

    We are in Pennsylvania.

My sister(9) had nude and semi nude pictures taken of her by her friend (9). This friend had distributed them to the school students and old men on snapchat.

We have pictures of the conversations between the girl and the old men. Where they talk about my sisters boobs and vagina. They talk about kissing naked among other things. It makes my mother and I physically sick. This girl has sent out messages to this guy pretending to be my sister.

The mother of the girl deleted the pictures but as everyone knows once it's on the internet it's out there forever. I know that the police would be able to retrieve the photos.

We took everything to the state police because we have her friends phone currently that has all of the messages. And the police said "give the phone back and everything will eventually be erased from the internet." They aren't willing to persu the GROWN MAN that is in possession of these pictures or the girl who has done all of this. They are sending us to our local police department and I know from experience when I was sexually assaulted that they will say the same thing or victim blame.

Please this cant be what we have to live with. My sister cant just be violated at 9 years old and have no justice. What can we do??

Car hit me at a crosswalk and drove off without providing any information. Took a pic of the plate and cops found her, said she was “on her way to the police station” 45 min after the fact. Is this a hit and run?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:39 AM PST

It was a green light, walk sign on, and a car was waiting to turn left. As I was crossing, the car turned (accelerated more than normal for a left turn) and hit me. I rolled onto the hood and fell onto the street. Visible injuries were just scrapes.

I took a picture of her plate. She told me to get onto the sidewalk. She pulled over and told me her name and wanted to hug me. I declined. Other witnesses called the cops for me. The lady who hit me said she was gonna park up the street and come back. She never did.

Cops came and I gave them her plate info. That's how they tracked her down 45 min later. I was already on the way to the hospital when they got a hold of her. She told the cop she was on her way to the police station anyhow to turn herself in. Cop lets it slide and issues her a citation.

Isn't this a hit and run? The ambulance also took me to an out of network hospital and I'm expecting a hefty bill.

    Thanks for the help

    Edit: this is in California

Being sued for providing alcohol to a minor when I was halfway across the country

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:42 AM PST

In October 2017 I moved from the house I had recently entered into a lease with in Oregon back home to New York. In December of 2017 roommates that I shared the lease with decided to throw a party at which someone unfortunately became intoxicated and was involved in a car accident leaving the property.

Due to not being removed from the lease until early 2018 I am listed on the lawsuit as being present in the house and providing alcohol to the minor, even though I was halfway across the country.

I have credit statements and flight records of leaving Oregon and making purchases in New York the day the lawsuit occurred.

Are there any further steps I should take rather than contacting the prosecuting lawyers and providing them with this information?

Is it legal to confine minors to solitary because they have an "high elopement" risk?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 04:03 PM PST

I work at a "school" for foster kids and kids w/ minor mental health issues, in TN. This is a resident campus (Meaning they live there). Out of all the grotesque things I have issues with, the worst is their "elopement" Precautions. I've been there for only a few months and know little of the field so maybe it's just the "nature of the beast" but I want to be sure. For the last 4 months five kids (ages 13, 13, 15, 16 and 16) have been kept in a room no bigger than a gas station convince store, 24/7. The other kids get to go to school (The building adjacent) but none of them are allowed to wear shoes (Only flip flops). Almost all have foot fungus, soiled socks and even some with more concerning foot infections (Cheap torn slides mixed with winter rain will do that). I get that it's a dumb way to deter them from running but for the ones that have to endure all that time in the same small place (Those 5)...smh even in federal prison, inmates get yard/rec time to see the sun...I'd be dead set on escape myself. Just seems inhumane and if it isn't against a law, it should be.

What will CPS do about false child pornography claims?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 02:20 PM PST

We are currently going through a very tough situation where a neighbor has called CPS and made a false claim. They have claimed that our 14 year old daughter sent nude photographs of herself on Snapchat, and that we are child sex traffickers. We are incredibly confused. Our daughter does not have Snapchat, and she has denied taking any photographs. We have all said that the claims are false, but we are wondering what CPS will do and how we can defend ourselves.

Moving back to Mexico (willingly) after living undocumented in the US for 16 years with no problems ever with the law. Should I be okay?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 04:23 PM PST

Hi. I don't know if this is the right subreddit to post this under, but I thought I'd try anyway. I'd appreciate any and all advice or knowledge you may have!

( brief mention of child abuse )

For background, my parents brought me into the US when I was four with a visa that we just overstayed. I don't want to get into the specifics of why they moved or why they stayed illegally because I don't think it's pertinent to my current situation.

Aside from being undocumented, I lived a good life here. I attended K-12 in the US and then attended community college for a year before having to drop out. I've never broken the law or had any run-ins with police aside from reporting that I was sexually abused as a child by a person my family was living with at the time in 2018. It was only reported because I talked about it with a therapist of mine who then was legally required to report it to the police. I gave my statement and met briefly with the detective assigned to it, but because it was so long ago and there were hardly any leads I believe it was dropped (haven't heard from the detective or anyone since).

I qualified for the DACA program, but my family was unable to come up with the money it would require to submit my application before Trump completely cut the program. I did, however, qualify for the Dream Act which helped me pay for community college until my financial aid was cut entirely for not taking enough units (I was working as a nanny to help support my family and struggled to balance everything). I couldn't afford another semester's tuition, so I dropped out last fall and have been working since.

A few months ago I decided to move back to Mexico alone (ironically) so I could pursue higher education there. Colleges in the US are better, but if I don't have any way of paying for them what's the point? I got my passport at the Mexican Consulate, have made arrangements to move in with family in Mexico who has been helping me apply for college there and have bought a one-way plane ticket leaving from LAX to where I will be living. I've done all the research I could about going back and haven't seen anything about people having problems returning to Mexico, but I still worry about the chance that I'll be stopped or sent to a containment center.

Should I be okay? I have no prior record whatsoever and have basically lived a quiet, normal life here. I just want a better life for myself, because it seems impossible to do so in the US without documents. I don't think I'm willing to live like this just waiting around for the government to either bring back DACA or change its policies while everyone else my age gets to pursue their dreams. I'd really appreciate any advice, help, or reassurance if anyone knows more about this and the process. Especially about whether or not I'd be allowed back into the US (to visit family and friends) after moving back to Mexico.

UPS driver seems to be screwing with me on purpose and the company won't do anything about it

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:36 AM PST

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this, but here goes.

It started back in October of last year. I live in Beckley, WV, a company I used to work for was paying out pension settlements and sent out notices to ex employees they hadn't heard from. When I received the letter, I called the number and asked what it was all about. They said I should have gotten a package in the mail explaining it all, but since I hadn't they'd send me a new one. The problem was that when i got it, I'd only have a day or 2 to fill it out and return it to meet the deadline for a payout, so I needed to hurry. I get the package a few days later, completely shredded into a million pieces by my dog. I check my cameras and watch the UPS driver shaking the package at my dog like he was gonna play fetch, lean down and pretend to have him sign for it, shake it above his head like he was playing, then throw it causing the dog to chase it and immediately shred it.

I took the recording to the local UPS office and asked if they train their drivers to play fetch with the mail and what he expected a dog to do with a paper package when thrown like that. I also explained that there's an invisible fence that doesn't allow them to even get close to where there driver was parked, which he had obviously known about because he stops at the boundary and has previously left packages out of their reach.

The manager watches the video, tells me he doesn't see what I'm describing and says he's shooing the dogs away. I said he's waving it around teasing them, and tries to get them to sign for it, he's on his knees with the pad out letting them sniff it! The manager then tells me that pad is the only defense their drivers have against dogs and if he was trying to get them to sign for it he'd have the pen out. I get furious and say i don't think he actually thought they'd physically sign it, but it's obviously not defense, he's playing with the dogs and you're covering his ass. He asked me what I wanted him to do about it, and I told him that I didn't know how to fix the time sensitive paperwork issue, but for starters that driver didn't need a job, that nobody even needed to come up my driveway since my mailbox and garage are at the bottom of the hill at the end of the driveway, they could leave my stuff in front of the bay door of the garage from now on. I told him I was doing them a favor anyway since it's closer to the main road and they wouldn't have to worry about my steep driveway in the winter. He assures me he'll take care of it.

Next package I get, I get a notification that says it's delivered, but I can't find it. Turns out the driver stuffed it into my trash dumpster. I call to complain, the driver says he thought it was a box for packages, that their special instructions said I'd have one. I told them no, put it in front of the bay door, like I said the other day, then asked if the multiple bags of garbage and the smell wasn't clue enough to figure out it wasn't for packages. They assured me it was changed in the system and wouldn't happen again.

Next package, dumpster again, complain again, same response. At some point they gave me the email of the regional manager, I complained to him twice and never received a response even to this day.

Next package I ordered I decided to wait at the garage and personally show him where I wanted it. He shows up, heads towards the dumpster again so i yell at him to stop, he comes toward me and i explain who I am, where I want it, tell him that not only is he getting garbage on my stuff, but if the trash truck runs before I get home they'll deliver my package to the dump and he needs to use some common sense. I walk him to the garage, probably 20 yards away, even show him the house number on the side, and point out the cameras I have down there too. He apologizes, tries to show me where it says to put it in the box on his magic pad/ dog deterring device, but can't seem to find it. I told him I didn't care either way, I was showing him personally where to put it, but called the company again and they assured me it was changed in their system.

    Next 2 packages, no problem.

Next one, dumpster again, I called to complain, they say there's a temporary driver they're using for the holidays and they'll talk to him. I ask for a higher up to complain to that was above whoever I complained to before, they tell me they can't give me the number.

Next package, I get a notification that says it was attempted to deliver but they had a problem so they were holding it an extra day, which turned into 3 days due to the weekend.

Next package, hanging from the flag on my mailbox, broke the flag off, complain again, same response. Can't give me a number for corporate or anyone higher than I've already talked to.

Finally, yesterday, I get a notification that it was attempted to be delivered but there's a problem, it's going to be held over the weekend again. I was home the entire time, even though they didn't have to come up to the house anyway it shouldn't have mattered. I called them up and they said the driver tried to deliver it, but they'd have to look into why he couldn't. I said well according to your tracking app, he was here at 1:34 pm, if that were true, he'd be on the camera's, so he's lying about even attempting, then they change their story and say that it was another temporary driver and he couldn't find the address. I asked if the numbers on the garage, the mailbox, and the dumpster they like so much weren't clear enough for them. They then told me they were sending the normal driver to re deliver it the same day. I asked why if the normal driver was there, why they needed a sub, they couldn't answer, because they're all full of shit.

Is there anything I can do to stop this harassment? Go above their heads somehow? Cause some kind of punishment for them that will stop their bullshit? A friend of mine tells me they're all union and there's basically nothing I can do, please tell me that's not the case.

Sorry for such a long story, and hopefully this is the right place to ask for advice. Thanks in advance

    EDIT: location is Beckley, WV

Landlord removed (most likely discarded) property from apartment before date specified in my lease termination agreement, without notice.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 06:39 PM PST

    This is in Chicago Illinois.

Earlier this month, my fiance and I signed a lease termination agreement with our landlord to end our lease early. We paid all fees requested by the property management company and signed a contract. Most of our belongings have been packed and moved earlier in the month, but I left my computer, a piece of furniture I couldn't move during the initial move, and various other small items.

The termination agreement set February 29th as the date to vacate the property. Today (February 22nd) I arrived at the apartment with my father to collect my remaining belongings and drop off the keys. I found that all of my belongings have been removed, the walls pained, all light bulbs replaced, and every room thoroughly cleaned. We checked the storage unit on another floor, which was untouched. When we came back upstairs, a leasing agent was in the apartment showing the place and left as soon as we arrived. I was not notified at all about people entering the apartment or to remove my belongings.

I emailed the company today and they responded via phone call and claimed they had not ordered the apartment to be cleared. They claim that the maintenance department has not entered the apartment. The only people they have not heard back from is the lease management company.

I'd like to recover my property if it was moved elsewhere. Otherwise, I'd like to get my property replaced. I don't know what to do. There are security cameras that monitors the only entrances to the building. Do I need to file a police report to obtain the footage? Do I need to hire a lawyer right away or pursue other avenues to get my stuff back or get compensated? Also any help pointing to legal resources for this issue would be helpful, I don't think I'm searching in the right places. It's been a stressful day!

Family is cutting nanny’s wages by 1/3 with no notice

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 06:24 AM PST

    A bit of background:

Last December we joined a nanny share with another family. Due to changes in our careers - as well as the other family being absolutely batshit - we decided to move on from the nanny share and seek private care instead.

When we informed the other family, things became contentious because they believed that they 'got dibs' on the nanny as we were the party leaving, when we simply pointed out that the nanny - as an employee and an independent human being - gets to decide which family she wants to continue with (if any - perhaps she wanted to move on entirely). Anyway, after they came to realize that they would lose that battle, they offered to 'bow out' and let us 'keep' the nanny... we once again explained that she's not property, and all we can do is make her an offer and see if she wants to take it. The nanny wanted to continue working regular hours, and we unfortunately need flexible care, so we sought another nanny for our son but have kept a very close relationship with this nanny.

Come to find out from the nanny, the entire time we were hashing things out with the other family, they were repeatedly going behind our backs to the nanny to try to bribe her to stay with them over us, even after they supposedly 'bowed out'. Mind you, at no point were we trying to woo the nanny - these people were basically playing a chess game against themselves.

Anyway, they promised her the same amount of money overall but even fewer hours - sweet gig, no? Even still, unbeknownst to them, the nanny was not planning on staying with them for much longer after we officially left the share because they are so insufferable as employers and just people in general.

Yesterday was our last day with this nanny and the other family as our new nanny starts on Monday. Our now-former nanny let us know last night that the other family informed her yesterday morning that as of Monday they would be cutting her hourly rate by $5/hour and they would have her working fewer hours, which means they cut her overall pay by 1/3 given that they are now avoiding having to pay her overtime like we all were before.

Here's the problem: there is no written contract in place. The father of the other family insisted on having his attorney friend go over the contract that we all would sign with the nanny as well as the contract we would sign among our families, but he took months to actually do it so by the time we left the share none of us had actually signed contracts.

To try to help our nanny, we're giving her a healthy cash parting gift in the hopes it will help her be able to afford to leave them sooner while searching for a new family, but I'm wondering if she has any kind of a legal standing in the way of a verbal contract (in Massachusetts) given that they made her promises about her wages that they're now reneging on? Not that she has the funds to be suing them, but I'm wondering if she could use that information as a bargaining tool to 'scare' them into paying her fairly until she finds a new family.

Sue happy neighbors keep using my steps

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 03:47 PM PST

This summer I moved into my first home and things have mostly been going well. I was advised by others on the block that my neighbors are very sue happy people, that it's actually how they buy all their nice things. The neighborhood children all spend a lot of time with said sue happy neighbors children and they often cut through my yard and use my steps instead of their own. My steps are very chipped and I likely will not have the money to replace them until summer 2021 as there are quite a few of them. After speaking with the children once ( asked them not to use the steps as they passed by one day) and the parents a few times the children still use my steps and I'm afraid they will fall and get hurt because of the chipped steps. Not to mention the like to kick off the concrete used as a temporary repair by the last owner. They've also come into my back yard to play with my puppy which makes me nervous as my puppy is still learning not to bite, and tries to use her mouth to play still.

If something happens to these kids am I responsible? What should I be documenting? I do have cameras that show the kids on the steps, but not playing with my puppy.

    I am in WI.

My dad is dying of pancreatic cancer in the hospital, how do I evict his tennant who is living in our house

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 05:58 PM PST

So my dad started renting a room to this nurse under the pretext she would help him with his home health care. I could tell from the beginning she was ass kissing hawking to take over the house when my dad passed. Under her care his VAD driveline became infected. But since then weve found he has pancreatic cancer. The past few months he's been in the hospital 90 percent of the time. My dad can barely move in the hospital, looks like his cancer metastasized to his liver probably going into a hospice home.

My dad is also a spineless emotionally vacant coward. In spite of not liking this woman, knowing that my one sister visit was ended prematurely bc this toxic bitch is in our house acting like she runs the place, knows her dog bit my other sister, and that she without approval from me started bagging my recently deceased mothers clothes and belongings and putting them in trash bags on the porch like they were garbage (she died from pancreatic cancer a few months prior ) he still won't evict her. He told me I can tell her to leave but I'm not sure how to go about it. There is no lease involved, she's just been paying my through me via Apple Pay. She was also driving his car after he told her to stop, and she ran it bone dry on oil and now the engine knocks. She also was not paying regularly until I called her out on it. I also cane he one day and found my dog who is going blind out in the drive way by herself without a leash.

So how do I get this toxic, manipulative, negligent person out of our house?

I have enough with both of my parents dying from pancreatic cancer that I don't want this woman her two dogs and kids in this house anymore especially given the number of flags that have been thrown up

    Pharmacist cousin update

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 08:43 PM PST

    cross-post in /r/hipaa

At the advice of my attorney, I have deleted my previous post. I do, however, sincerely appreciate all of the incredibly helpful and supportive comments. I'm so sorry I was unable to respond to every comment and thank you individually. I did read each one and I'm grateful for the support and encouragement.

I can say cousin has been reported to all relevant boards and agencies for gross violation of privacy. She should be receiving a letter/notice from them soon, I'm assuming. We are no contact so any items moving forward will be handled by our attorney. Here's to hoping our charitable contribution formine and hubby's favorite organizations for 2020 we'll be exponentially larger. Again, thank you so much for helping me out. I am wholly grateful to each and every one of you.

My landlord consistently requests rent early

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 03:25 PM PST

For context, I live in Tucson, Arizona. As of late my landlord has consistently been requesting rent earlier than our lease states, because their "offices" are closed on weekends. our rent is due on the first of each month, but consistently gets requested on days like the 29th of the previous month because rent day falls on a weekend.

For a specific example, our rent is due March 1st, but they emailed me saying rent day is the 28th of February, because March 1st is a Sunday. Is this sort of thing allowed?

Error in criminal background, never been in trouble with the law in my life.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 09:46 PM PST

I recently applied for a job, passed my interview and assessment test with flying colors, but my background check came back with complications. I requested a copy of the screening and It says I have been convicted and plead guilty for "delivering a controlled substance", which I have definitely not done. The most I've ever gotten is a written warning for speeding. I messaged the company back as soon as I recieved the letter stating that I'm in the process of disputing the information, problem is, I'm not sure how to go about actually disputing the false information on my criminal record? The records show the case was in the next county over from where I live. Im young and I'm unfamiliar with the law, but it's very worrying to have this on my criminal record. Is it possible that someone else has the same name as me and they got us mixed up somehow? How do I go about proving my innocence? This is in West Virginia if it matters.

Could be sued for a job review

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 06:00 PM PST

    Hi guys,

I left my job and posted on indeed about my experience. I used a throwaway account to write the review just to be cautious (didn't really work out) and I didn't use any names or specific events that could be traced back to me. However, I'm assuming it's the time frame that points back to me? Anyways, I received an email saying that I violated some policies (IT policy and Non Compete policy) and was told that I had to take down the review to avoid the lawsuit. I tried to find the agreements I signed in my email but nothing was sent to me. So I have no reference to see what I signed. But I don't understand how they could know it was me besides the time frame. Could I really be sued for this even though my post is anonymous? I'm a little scared since I don't know the legality of this. Any helpful response would be great! Thank you for your time.

    Wedding Venue

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 08:17 PM PST

Last August my fiancée and I booked our venue with agreements on service as well as alcohol policy's provided by the staff and company. However the only contract we signed regarded the date and time of the wedding and services provided for the day of the wedding. Last week we received a letter regarding the "new" and current policy the venue has taken on alcohol, stating a drink minimum and alcohol limit will be implemented. This revision was neither stated in the contract or discussed as a possible option for the future in our contract. The date of our wedding is in august however the revision will not meet either our standards we agreed on initially or our time frame if we have to change venues. Has our contract been breached and if so what would be our best next move?

The property management company won’t give me disabled partner her own parking space

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:00 PM PST

So this has been going on for about three months now. The apartment complex I live in has extremely limited parking, to the point I have to park off site most days when I get home because nothing is available. We were given one spot for the both of us and were told there was plenty of parking before I moved in, which clearly isn't the case. We applied for a reasonable accommodation, for my partner to have her own space because she is deaf and can't hear cars, especially at night, when it is hard to see her it is a safety risk. There is no accessible route for her to get to our building safely without being in the way of vehicles coming and going. They denied us the reasonable accommodation with no explanation. We turned in another one, with a doctors signature, and she applied for a handicap permit which she has now, but there is only one handicap space for over 100 spaces (most marked with numbers, but about 40 of these spaces are marked visitor). They denied us the reasonable accommodation even with the doctors note and told us they discussed it with their lawyers and they aren't legally obligated to give us another space. My partner almost got hit by a car because of this safety risk. We've contacted the ADA, HUD, and no one will get back to us about our complaints. What should we do now? I don't know what the next step is because everyone is neglecting the case and I feel like this isn't right.

    How is this physically possible???

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 05:01 AM PST

Girlfriend got into an accident. She is better now, but was treated for whiplash later that afternoon. She is insured under my insurance. The crash report submitted by the responding officer indicates that she hit the other driver causing the damage.

The photos of the accident aftermath however indicate that the other driver attempted an illegal left u-turn from the right hand lane, crossing over in front of her car, corroborating her account that the driver pulled out in front of her and tried to go the other direction from a dead stop. I am worried the accident will be blamed on my girlfriend, thus increasing my rates and leaving us without a way to claim any compensation for the accident from the other party's insurance company.

Do I have any recourse here? I'm so pissed the crash report seems to blame my girlfriend when all the photo evidence indicates the other driver was at fault. What do?!

I found a bitcoin wallet on a computer in a self storage unit I bought at auction, is it mine.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:50 PM PST

    I'n Texas

I buy storage units at auction. A few weeks ago I purchased a unit that I found a laptop in. On that laptop was a bitcoin wallet on. If I'd found a physical wallet full of cash in the unit I of course know that is legally mine. On the other hand If I'd gotten on the laptop and found the login information to their bank account, I know I don't have the right to that. So where legally does this type of wallet and the bitcoin fall?

Before I get the inevitable, no one leaves things that valuable in a storage unit. Yes, they do, and for a variety of reasons. In this case I did try and track down who this had belonged to previously. It belonged to an elderly couple both of whom have passed away. The husband was quite tech savy, (there was a good bit of computer equipment and electronics dating from the early 80s to the mid 2010's). He had a massive stroke about 5 years ago that left him severely disabled. The wife put everything in storage and they moved into assisted living. He passed away 3 years ago, and she last year. I spoke to people at that facility(didn't tell them about the bitcoin, just told them I had personal items like photos and old home movies I wanted to return). They never had children, and no one knew of any other living relatives.

Considering that, regardless I could probably get away with just cashing out the wallet since no one else probably knows about it. But I would like to know more on the off chance something like this happens again.

    Rental Complex Hacked

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 02:28 PM PST

I live in a multi-unit rental community in New York. Starting in the summer of last year, complex management began sending out emails each month that they were having issues with their accounting system so invoices were incorrect, that residents should just pay what was paid the previous month and not go by the invoices sent through the payment portal.

In January, residents began receiving emails from management stating the personal and financial information of residents had been compromised. These emails were always received late at night and with spelling and grammatical errors -- two of the emails sent had files attached with personal information (names, emails, rent amounts, past due balances) of all the tenants, as well as a file of banking information from the complex. These emails were followed by unsigned and photocopied letters on management letterhead stuffed into the doors of units stating that the emails were not coming from management and to essentially disregard but to still monitor financial information.

Since the summer, invoices have been incorrect, payments have not posted to the proper units, some residents have even apparently received inaccurate eviction notices on their doors, and our access to the payment portal has been disabled. Meanwhile management continues to insist that there has not been a data breach.

The last email communication from the complex was sent at 4am on February 8th and stated:

Dear Residents,,,,Yes, you all accounts have all been hacked... and I'm tired of dealing with this and stupid resdents asking me stupd questions!!!! Save draft and have a drink on me...2 drinkss!send noewQuestions? Call the new PM or my ex-manager!!!

Residents have begun to organize to gather more information but we are unsure of what to do or what exactly has happened since management has been so dismissive of the data breach.

Mom might be changing her house bills to my name, how do I combat this? (and other legal issues)

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 04:24 PM PST

    (Located in the US)

Long story short, I've been heavily supporting my mom financially for years now, paying her thousands each year. Recently it's come to a point where I'm left with $10 or less in my account, and this month after rent, I had $-17 left.

I checked my transactions to see what on earth she spent so much money on (it's all utility bills) and saw one bill with my name attached to it. It's never looked like this before, so now I'm concerned she's making me legally responsible for her utility bills so I can't set any financial boundaries (which I tried to do this time around, but as a result I was overdrawn)

Overall, her spending my money is becoming a problem, and I can no longer afford my own needs without using my school funds. At the moment I do live with her, so I know I should pay her something...but it's getting out of control, and now she just threatens legal action if I don't pay her the full amount she wants when she needs it. (Ranges from $500 to $900) I can't keep this up, so I'm looking to break away from this situation. But I also have court looming over me if I make any effort to fight back. What can I do to stop all of this?

(Canada, M33) Creditors are after me for a debt that I already paid to other creditors 10 years ago!

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 08:36 PM PST

    Hi /r/legaladvice,

I'm just recently back in Canada after many years out of country, I grew up here and still consider it home, and now I'm in the process of starting a business here. We've just officially incorporated last week, and yesterday we set up a corporate bank account through RBC.

In order to get a visa card attached to the account, a financial history check was required, and it came back with a very surprising result: there was an outstanding balance of $1200CAD for a TD Credit Card that went into default back in 2007... not surprising because I didn't know about it, but because I had already paid that debt in full to a threatening creditor who convinced me to do so in my broke delinquent University years after I let that card get out of control.

The total I paid back then was $1500CAD (the credit limit of the card, I don't know where my current $1200 quote came from) via a Western Union transfer IIRC, and the creditor acted like I got one hell of a deal, and that my status from that point would be "Paid in Full". Any evidence of this isn't in my old email address, so I have the feeling that all coorespondence of this transaction took place on the telephone, and any paper evidence I would have had is lost or forgotten over the years.

I realize I'm not in a great position here, but any advice regarding my situation would be appreciated.
