We are Israel's Adv. Dina Dominitz Head of Anti-trafficking in the Ministry of Justice and San Francisco's Deputy Consul General Matan Zamir here to answer questions about policies combating human trafficking. January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month – Ask us anything!

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 11:03 AM PST

In recent decades we have seen an increase in the global development of human trafficking and modern-day slavery- especially in the San Francisco-Bay Area. Human trafficking is the dehumanization and objectification of human beings to satisfy the needs of others, usually for economic gain. This manifests in the severe exploitation of human beings, often from low socio-economic grade countries or peoples from disadvantaged backgrounds. The types of exploitations are diverse: sexual exploitation, prostitution, slavery and forced labor, human organ harvesting, etc. This is a worldwide phenomenon that crosses all countries and cultures in all parts of the globe.

Israel's National Anti-Trafficking Unit (NATU) coordinates between different government bodies, between government entities, and non-governmental organizations in combatting human trafficking for all purposes. NATU aims to assist the Israeli government in setting up an anti-trafficking policy as well as protecting victims of trafficking by advancing legislation, regulations, and procedures that could combat of human trafficking, identifying new patterns of trafficking and acting to eradicate them, tackling problems as they arise and minimize risks factors, initiating awareness campaigns, professional trainings, research studies and different projects.

Sponsored by the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking (SFCAHT) on January 31st, Adv. Dina Dominitz will be speaking alongside various Consul Generals at The Global fight Against Human Trafficking at the University of San Francisco to discuss the global effort to stop human trafficking. Please join us to learn more information about how to spot and stop human trafficking.

    Landlord Stole My Car

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:15 AM PST

I have been renting a parking space behind a house in a large city for 8 years now. I keep a vehicle there that I don't use very much. When I went to check on it last, it was gone. Found out that it has been towed away by the LL and subsequently scrapped. Apparently they didn't know who's car it was and they wanted to give the space to a new tenant in the building.

The landlord is a professional investment & property management company with a number of properties in the area, but nonetheless a small, family-run business. Apparently there was some poor record-keeping, the son had to take over the business, and this was an honest mistake. - but a mistake nonetheless, and I intend to seek compensation.

I have been paying rent on the parking spot continually with bank checks that say "Parking at XX Rd" with my name and address. I have a lease for "parking at XX address" with our names and contact info. I have email records with landlord from when I bought the vehicle, notifying him that I had a new car with make, model, color, and confirming my contact info, phone # etc. I never received any notice about disposing of the vehicle or terminating the lease - not by phone, mail or email. LL claims that he was unable to contact me, and apparently thought the checks he was cashing were for another parking spot.

I am thinking to ask for the current Blue Book value of the vehicle plus any rent overpaid since it was towed, and then formally terminate the lease and release all responsibility for the vehicle to the LL. (In case the towing company comes after me for the towing and storage fees).

Are there other legal issues at stake here?

What do you think I should do?

    Location: Boston, MA USA.

(If anyone's curios, I did try to post this last month, but in a long rambling format that only resulted in subjective discussion on the car itself)

CO. Someone tried to “rescue” my dog from vehicle and was bitten.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:28 AM PST

Left my dog in the enclosed bed of my pickup while I ran into a store. Colorado law allows dogs to be left in vehicle if temps are below 70 f. Temps were in the 30s. Camper too big has black out window tint and my dog does not bark at all. You would have to have your face to the glass to see her inside.

Came out of the store 10 minutes later to cops arriving to my truck and someone holding there bloody hand.

Talked to the police, luckily they agreed conditions were not met for the person to break into my vehicle to "rescue" her. Charged the person with something to do with breaking into a vehicle. Animal control accepted the rabies shot tag on her collar to allow me to take her home with me. And I've sent them all the paper docs including her city registration.

I honestly think the person was just trying to see if there was anything worth stealing in the bed of my truck and afterwards made up a story of trying to rescue her.

Could the person try and sue me for the bite? According to the last update I got from the police he has a few broken bones in his hand and multiple puncture wounds.

Would my vehicle insurance help protect me if I had to fight anything?

It sounds like at this point legally we are completely in the clear. There hasn't been any contact from the other party. I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row in case I get served.

So I went on a walk today and diacovered a company dumping nasty water into the waterstream...

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:40 PM PST

I'm from Michigan, I was walking on some trails today, along the path there is a fenced off private property. The property has pipes fed under the fence and public trail, dumping into a pond which is right next to the river. There is some nasty orange shit that comes out of all the pipes, looks like oil as well. Who/where can I go to report this and have this checked out. My fears are that it will be swept under the rug like most environmental issues.

(VT) Roofer caused major water damage to my house, didn't fix it, then was crushed to death.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:37 PM PST

I believe I had a decent case for breach of contract, gross negligence, and fraud. Now that he's dead, what are my options for pursuing damages? My husband thinks that suing a dead person is just taking money away from his children.

The job was $10k and he was paid $7.5k and had 1.5 days of work left. He left the a quarter of the roof completely exposed to a huge rainstorm. I have major water damage to my interior, need to replace a lot of sheathing, and have to reinstall cellulose insulation, plus several tons of shingles in my yard that were not removed despite being in the contract. After the incident, the contractor didn't like that I was mad and telling him he needed to come to see the damage and actually do everything I paid him for. He refused to come back to the site "until there's a change in your attitude."

I had to pay someone $2k to undo a third of his work and get into the attic to remove insulation and then tarp the roof for the winter. I'm also stuck with about $1k in waste removal fees. The estimates I'm getting for fixing the damage and redoing the shoddy work are coming in at $18-25k. I received $1.7k from my insurance for interior finishes damage and am still working with his insurance to see what I can get from them.

I was told by lawyers that the chances of me getting any money back were very slim, they both told me not to hire them. I was planning to take him to small claims court, even though I know the payout is the most difficult part. Now that he's dead, I'm not sure what my options are.

Think dealership sold me a stolen truck

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 07:32 PM PST

    LOCATED IN LOUISIANA

On Nov 29th I bought a 2018 Escalade from a dealership. At the time, we noticed that something was wrong with ONSTAR, it was like the module wasnt plugged in. Salesman tells us to bring it back on Monday and service will take care of it. Dec 2 we drop it off and they call me and tell me that they can not service it because GM says that it is not a valid vin #. It will take 5-7 to clear up. So I pick up truck and a week later I find out from a friend who works at the dealership that the guy who sold the dealership the Escalade I bought came back in with his friend and tried to sell them another one and the same thing happened. When they put it in the system, its clear but when they put it into the warranty computer it says no VIN found. Vin on dash and sticker in door match. After completely losing my cool, the vice president of the dealership tells me that he is sending salesman with a loaner vehicle until we figure out whats going on. After being in the loaner for a couple of weeks, I lose my cool again. Now I am paying a truck note on a truck I am not driving and GM is not returning phone calls. Dealership says they are trying to find another vehicle comparable to the one I purchased and they will just switch loan over to that one

It is now Jan 29th and GM supposedly has not been in contact with the dealership, nor have they returned over 60 phone calls from me. DO I HAVE ANY LEGAL RIGHTS HERE!?!?!?!?!

Found patients medical records posted on Facebook

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:58 PM PST

    Hey Legal Advice,

Came across a profile on Facebook that had medical records posted on it. It sort of looks like a nurse's phone was stolen based on other images in the posts. Since it's publicly posted across the internet, who does it need to be turned in to? Is it federal/state? Nursing home looks to be located in Indiana, USA. Contains DOB, lab results, etc.

Clearly a HIPAA violation, but shouldn't the act of posting that also be criminal? I'd be horrified to find out this happened to me or a loved one.

I've been subpoena'd for a court date in a city 11 hours away

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:26 PM PST

I live in Tennessee. Today a subpoena was issued telling me I am to appear in court on February 6th. They want me to testify against a woman who hit my car in September of 2018, when I lived in North Carolina. This would mean I am driving 11 hours there and back just to appear in court for something that A) Was not my fault and B) happened about a year and a half ago. I don't have the money or vacation time to be leaving work for 2 days on such a short notice. What options do I have?

Husband was shot in 2014. Insurance says he was supposed to sign documents within a year, he didn't. Now insurance company does not claim responsibility for $50K. He had to flee city for his life, start a new. Battled with/still is battling with PTSD, ongoing pain & depression. We can't afford most legal fees. If there's anyone in the Sacramento area that can help us. Please.

United States. I am in my early thirties, my sibling their mid-20s, and my parents in their late 50s. I live a state away from my family, roughly a two hour drive away. I don't anticipate them leaving us any time soon, but this thought has entered my mind recently as I start my own family.

PayPal allowed a buyer to steal my wedding dress!

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:35 AM PST

    (Me: Oklahoma; buyer: California)

I sold my wedding dress (in pristine condition) to a buyer, who then turned around and claimed major damage when received. She claimed things like rips and blood (!), and wine, even though I wore it only a few hours for an elopement, and there was no wine at all and definitely no blood. I was shocked and furious, because I knew the dress was in perfect condition when shipped, but per policy, I had to accept my dress back and return the almost $800 I sold it for. Fine. I accepted that, even though I was disappointed.

Fast forward a month or so, and PayPal is debiting my account (not my bank account, just my PayPal account), saying I owe them money for the returned dress. Problem is, I never received it. They claim she attempted to return it, signature required, but I never got mail notice -- nor was I even present to receive said dress. The dress was, I suppose, returned to the buyer. Now she has both my dress AND my money, and PayPal claims they don't care. In fact, they've turned me over to a collections agency and won't even talk to me about the case anymore. I even elevated the issue to corporate level before the collection notice. I asked how it was even imaginable that she should possess my dress and my money, and they basically said it was my fault for not being present to receive the dress -- that I wasn't made aware was coming -- and I was OUT OF TOWN (I'm a military Reservist).

I'm so furious and so dumbfounded that they can get away with this. I called my bank to see what would happen if I paid the PayPal fee and then disputed it with my bank. They felt horrible for me but said I couldn't do that. What recourse do I have? She lives way across the country from me.

Friend returned my phone completely broken, what can I do?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:49 PM PST

I added a "friend" of mine to my phone plan a few months back. I leased out a second Note 10+ (mine being the first) for him to use, granted he paid for half the bill each month.

For personal reasons today I told him I needed the phone back and that I would be cancelling the line. He didn't like this too much and returned the phone to me by dropping it out of his car window on to the parking lot without a case, effectively rendering the phone useless. It appears he did some more intentional damage to it before dropping it to ensure it wouldn't work.

This phone is worth $1100 and I'm now stuck paying the lease for the next however long.

Is there anything that can be done here? This was in my work parking lot and he is technically my supervisor. This happened on the clock. Also yesterday he keyed the hood of my car. This all happened at night so the footage on the cameras likely doesn't have anything in terms of evidence, but I could be wrong. I talked to his supervisor today about the keying incident and he is looking into it.

    Thanks in advance

Edit: this is in Kentucky. Sorry.

Can apartment maintenance and clean up crew legally throw away people's things after they've died?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:06 AM PST

I was notified by the coroner Monday night that my mother had passed away. My brother and I went to her apartment Tuesday morning because we needed to find something indicating what dentist she went to. When we got there, there were people cleaning up. They said that they had thrown her purse and a bunch of other stuff away already, and that the maintenance guy had told them to throw away anything that was "contaminated". My mother kept everything in her purse. It was really important that we get it. Also for any money she had to pay for funeral expenses because she didn't have life insurance. Her phone was also gone. Now they say that we can't go back into the apartment until Thursday when they're done with the clean up.

Is it legal to just start throwing stuff away like that? The apartment administration had my contact info listed for her emergency contact, that's how the coroner came to my house, so it's not like they thought she had no immediate family. Plus we don't have any idea now what else was thrown out. It looked like they had cleared out her entire bedroom so far.

My mother is telling people my boyfriend is a rapist.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:04 AM PST

    Located in Brisbane Australia.

We're currently in the midst of getting a no contact protection order against her due to I guess semi-related harassment. She's spent the past 3 weeks trying to call me and stalking me over fb abusing me because I've removed her from my life.

It's now escalated to her telling people he is a rapist. I've gone to the ex girlfriend she was claiming told her that he had raped her, and she swears on her life that nothing has ever happened along those lines and she would never suggest it just to get back at him.

As mentioned earlier in my post, we have the paperwork ready to file it at the courts, and we're hoping it's a full no contact. Is this something we're able to put in our application? My only dilemma is this is something she screamed at me over the phone about it, so I don't have anything in writing (apart from my messages to his ex about it). Are we still able to put this is in our application as grounds so that she can never contact us again?

    Company and Boss disappeared

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 07:31 PM PST

    Hello,

My story is kind of long and I'll try to keep it brief, if you need more details I'll provide in comments.

    This is in Nevada.

I got hired at a startup company and worked there for about two going on three weeks. I started on 1/14/2020 and the payroll period was last Friday, 1/24/2020.

I was asked to email my hours from the week of 1/13/2020 - 1/17/2020. Which were 41 hours, and I was expecting this to be on that payroll period. Before I dive into that here's some context. We were moving offices, we had a place lined up and was told by our boss Mr. T that he already signed the lease and it was a done deal. We were informed Thursday that the landlord backed out and said we couldn't have armed security. (They were fine with it previously) So we didn't have an office on Thursday, because we were getting kicked out of the old office. We were quickly told that we have another office and we will get into it. Friday 1/24/20202 was a paid day off and paychecks were being signed by our bosses at their house and would be contacted about our paychecks when they were ready. I personally was never contacted about my paycheck and I start asking my supervisor and using the chain of command. Monday we were told that we would have the address for the new place at 10 am, that never happened either. The employees that did receive checks, they bounced. And we received an email stating to be patient they are working on it and don't try to cash them until further notice. As previously stated, I have yet to receive mine or know where it is. No one has heard from our boss for a few days and there is no office to go into. I have already contacted all the people besides Mr. T about my paycheck and they all say Mr. T has it, as soon as they know they will let me know.

What do I do as this is an incredibly suspicious situation?

My employer allowed another employee to take my w2. Indiana.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 09:00 AM PST

Reposted in hopes of more responses, since this is time sensitive.

Long story short, my manager was letting employees grab their own W2's from a stack that was in the office. He wasn't even watching as employees rifled through the stack to find their own. Who knows how many occasions this happened. I know at least 5 people were looking for theirs while I was in the office.

Mine has somehow gone missing. My manager told me that he specifically saw it himself yesterday, before I ever arrived at work.

While I am worried about the delay in being able to file (because I seriously need the money), I am immensely concerned about my information being at risk. There are plenty of people I work with who I do not trust, and who knows what could happen with literally ALL of my information at their disposal.

It should also be noted that they are failing to produce my w2 by the January 31st deadline.

Edit: My manager told me that I can't even access my w2 online without a request to corporate that takes a week to process.

Man scammed me out of $130- is Small Claims Court worth pursuing?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:02 PM PST

(Me: Alabama, Scammer: Florida) A few months ago, I sent a man that I met on social media $130 via Cashapp for a music festival ticket, and he was in turn supposed to change the ticket shipping address to my information so that the ticket would be sent to me instead of him. He did not do this, and when I requested a refund via Cashapp, he declined it. He also declined all of my calls. Cashapp was unresponsive, and my bank denied my dispute claim. I filed a police report, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest for theft by deception (this will not do much, however, because he lives in a different state), but I know this warrant will give me a better chance of winning if I sue him in small claims court for the money. The detective on my case also subpoena'd CashApp and has evidence of him scamming me and multiple other people.

I have a couple of questions. First, will it be worth it to sue him in small claims court? The fee is $66, and I think I have a good chance of winning with the evidence I have, but I also know he could refuse to pay me even if I win. Second, I was thinking about attempting to contact him one last time before pursuing small claims court, and telling him that there is a warrant out for his arrest and that I have the information needed to win my case in small claims court, so he can either pay me $130 now or $130 plus the court fees after I sue and win my case. Could contacting him and telling him any of this information somehow hurt my case going forward?

[NC] My roommate moved in his girlfriend and her baby, they are putting stuff in my room but are refusing to put her on the lease, can I legally lock the door to my room with their stuff still in it until they do the require paperwork for her to live there anyways?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:32 PM PST

As stated above, they violated the lease in multiple ways. 1) she has been there more than 14 days and 2) she is permanently moved in and I have proof of that in texts, but refuses to do the paperwork needed to live there.

I may have to sue to get here out as the leasing office for this complex is completely useless, but until that happens can I legally lock them out of "my" room even when some of their stuff is still in it?

I'm more hoping it will be the final push to get them to file the paperwork that's required anyways.

House was robbed due to alarm company technician error.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:04 AM PST

Throw away account for personal reasons.

    Edit: state of Georgia

Came home after dinner to find that our house had been robbed. House was ransacked, glass door broken, power was cut, WiFi line was cut, and Valuables had been stolen. Alarm was set that night.

We use ADT as an alarm company and there was an active back up battery. But the alarm never went off while the thieves were in the house.

When we came home, the alarm was active and went off as usual that night. Didn't even realize we had been broken into until we went into the rooms.

We later called an ADT technician to figure out what happened. The technician confirmed that the previous technician had turned off the sensor for the entire basement sector.

Apparently, the last time a technician had come (a year ago), they had disabled the connection sensor for the basement door (where the thieves came in). As a result, the door was never armed and hadn't been for over a year.

Info: the reason why the technician came a year ago was because the alarm kept going off randomly at night. They had identified it to be an issue with the basement window and they said they turned off the hard wire alarm sensor for the window and replaced it with a wireless sensors. But In turning off the the window sensor, they had deactivated the entire basement sector.

Since the incident, my mom hasn't been able to sleep peacefully. My parents both have an increased sense of paranoia. Police hasn't been any help in finding the culprits. Looking for legal advice on what I can do to get compensation from the alarm company besides "free services for a year."

[AL] Pest control company serviced our home without permission

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:48 AM PST

As the title states I am in Alabama and a pest control company we have previously used, but do not have a contract with, came and serviced our house without our knowledge. They called us twice to schedule, both times we were unavailable and they came out anyway yesterday and serviced our exterior which is completely fenced in and gated. We also have two large dogs that were occupying the yard at the time and I'm worried about all the things that could have happened. We only know they came because they billed us for the complete service including interior pest control. It even says on the bill that they made multiple attempts to schedule with us. I honestly have been very unhappy with them and was going to switch companies anyway. Do we have to pay them and is what they did legal?

[FL] Overheard my neighbor(who breeds dogs) saying he "wants to get his hands on" my dog.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:40 PM PST

I'm not sure if there is any action I can take, I certainly don't want to stir up drama on hearsay but also want to have some sort of documentation in case something happens to our dog...

My girlfriend and subsequently her dog moved in with me about 6 months ago. He is mixed on paper, but very big and it's likely he has some bull/pit in him. He is very broad in the head and shoulders and excitable so we keep him on a lead when he is outside to keep him contained in our fenced yard since he can jump clear over fences.

When they first moved in, he slipped out through the door while we were going into the backyard and got under the fence and went into our neighbors yard on the backside of the property. She went to retrieve him and when she did, discovered that he is breeding dogs. There were probably 6 or so Bull dogs in a cage in the backyard. I have never heard a noise from them in the 3 years I've lived here so this was news to me. I also have no idea if he is legally breeding them or not. I tend to be the kind of neighbor who keeps to themselves unless someone is doing something that directly affects me and my family.

The guy at the house asked what kind of dog ours was and her reply was "He is fixed." and then she left.

Today, we overheard him from his balcony saying he would "Like to get his hands on that dog" and then described our dogs coloring and size. Then he said dog "belongs to some white lady", so adding 2 and 2 together seems like he was talking about our dog. As soon as he noticed we were looking right at him, he walked inside.

I am now extremely uncomfortable. We usually don't leave our dog outside if we aren't home but there have been times where he is outside while we are inside or when we run to the grocery store for an hour. My immediate fear is that the guy might try to come into our yard and take our dog, especially because dog fighting is an issue in our city.

I also don't think this would even warrant calling the police to file an incidence report, especially if it means the neighbor gets directly involved. I certainly don't want to stir up resentments on the chance he was just saying in a really, really weird way that our dog is beautiful. But I also feel like if something happens and our dog goes missing, having some sort of record of this incidence would be beneficial.

Are there any steps I can take, aside from getting a camera to face the back yard, that would help me if my dog were to go missing in the future and we would have an idea of the suspect but no proof?

    Possible bias with CPS

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:46 PM PST

Disclaimer: Due to the seriousness of allegation in this post, I understand if it makes people upset, I'm not looking for pity points, but I'm genuinely confused. Also there is a lot to this but I will try to keep it simple.

About two months ago, I was accused of touching my step daughter sexually while dressing her or tucking her into bed. I work nights so I'm not home when she goes to bed or goes to school so I have an alibi. CPS got involved and interviewed me two weeks into the investigation and I offered my hair, blood, semen, internet history, work history, etc. She told me they don't need any of that and then accused me of doing the crime, three times.

I told her I would be willing to cooperate and provide anything for the investigation even if I had to leave to leave the house in the meantime. She said it would make no difference because "I'm guilty." At this point I'm angry, I feel like I'm being judged without a chance to defend myself and I've denied the allegation strongly.

She said the accusation is now that I fondle her with her clothes on, in public, on the couch, basically everywhere at all times. I asked her how can I possibly defend myself against an allegation that has no timetable, no fixed location, and I can't even submit evidence? She shrugged at me. I'm dumbfounded and frustrated.

I leave the house even though I'm not forced, to my sister's so my fiancé can get her kids back at least.

About a week ago my fiancé still didn't have the kids even though I've been gone 4+ weeks. The kids dad tried to get custody of the kids before the investigation was over and during the court hearing the Judge wanted to know why CPS had talked to their dad over 15 times and talked to me, the step daughter (5 years old) and the mother only once. She then claimed I was making my step daughter into a sex slave. The judge asked how she came to this conclusion and she answered "it's a feeling." The judge rescheduled for a later date so the investigation would at least be over.

It's now the last day of the investigation (CPS has 60 days to gather evidence) and the case worker finally reached out to me. She said she needed to hear my side of the story and I needed to present evidence to her by the end of the day cause she has to finalize her report by the 30th.

At this point I had 10 hours (now 6) and I'm working a double today (I have three jobs, I work two today) and I'm not done with work until 2 am.

I have reasons why I think the accusation came up that involves their father and the history there. (He's been charged with domestic, child abuse, robbery, and attempted murder) and he's had the kids the entirety of the investigation so I feel like the kids are being coached.

Is this normal procedure for CPS? Does this qualify as bias? I have a lot questions. I know they have no proof because I know I haven't done it, but I'm completely lost and I'm just looking for advice. I don't have a lawyer, I'm pretty poor but I was waiting to see if I was charged to get a lawyer.

I haven't heard from CPS in any form until today

Edit: I have 2 year old with my fiancé. my fiancé has two kids with the ex husband. Grammar and mistakes

    My aunt stole my inheritance

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:22 PM PST

When I was 10 years old In 2008 My father got sick with melanoma cancer and they gave him 6 months to live. About two years before that my mom started to abuse prescription pills and it caused a lot of strain on my parents relationship. My two aunts from out of state, who I never met before, show up to see my dad and the family and make sure everything's okay. They stayed for a little while because they also grew up here and saw other people they haven't seen in awhile. My dad had undergone brain surgery to remove a tumor and a couple days after that my aunts show up and talk my dad into changing his will... leaving my aunts most of his things, changing the deed of our house in our names (his three daughters) basically excluding my mom out of everything. (Well, because she's crazy and unreliable and would most likely spend that money/sell items for drugs) My dad took out his personal savings from the bank and some of his hidden cash and hands what I know (remind you I'm only 10 and this is all 'adult talk') 50,000 to my grandpa, his father, for me and my two other sisters. We are suppose to get it when we turn 21. This was not written in the will.. this was completely separate. My grandpa randomly passes away 5 months after my father. My mom finds out about the money and has been telling us that our aunts spent all of our money already and stole our inheritance, making sure I never contact them and tried to make me hate them. We kept some contact anyway but I was never close with them. My oldest sister turns 21... she is 8 years older than me. She got her check of her inheritance 16k. Then my aunts randomly decide to make the age 23 instead of 21. My middle sister turns 23 my aunts say NOTHING to her and my sister doesn't feel comfortable reaching out to them because it's been years since we talked. (After my dad passed my mom went down a crazy path of drugs and violence and there was a lot we had to deal with..) I reach out to my aunts, 16 years old, just learned what a CD account was and I asked my aunts if they could put that money in an account so it can gain interest. My aunt replies that that would go against my dads wishes. I was confused and super emotional because I didn't understand why that wouldn't be okay and I freaked out because I started to believe everything my mom was saying about my aunts and my inheritance. My aunt messages me that I have never reached out to them before and I should have been a little closer to her if I wanted my money in an account.. (REMIND YOU I WAS 10 WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENED AND MY MOM HATED THEM) I have most of these Facebook messages as proof that my aunt does have some sort of inheritance for me and more than one person knows that my dad did what he did.. my aunts block me off all social media and my number. Years pass and one aunt (without my money) unblocks me and I reach out and apologize and try to make amends. We're okay now.. expect when I try to talk about my aunt that does have my money, she always replies that she "doesn't know or really talk to her" judging by the recent pictures I see of them on her Facebook prove otherwise. My sister finally reaches out and says she wants to try to put a down payment on a house (lie) and needs the money. My aunt writes her a check and she deposits it. My aunt will not talk to me and I'm turning 23 in a week. Is there anything I can do with the proof I have? Should I just wait it out?

EXTRA QUESTION My dad put the deed of the house he almost completely paid off in his daughters names. My mom got the house foreclosed after my fathers death when I was a freshman in high school. Is that history? Is there anything I can do about that?

Ex-wife is forcing my daughter to lie in court. Not sure what's going to happen.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:41 PM PST

    Wisconsin

My ex wife beat me in front of my girlfriend and daughter. My girlfriend and I gave written statements and my daughter told the cops that she didn't see anything because her eyes were covered, to spare her mom from getting in trouble.

She was charged with a couple violent crimes and plead not guilty to all of them and is going to trial. She is pretending to be my daughter on facebook to message me very mean and hurtful things, and my "daughter" told me that shes going to tell the judge that I lied about what happened and her mom did nothing wrong. Shes 12.

What's the likelihood of this changing the outcome of her case? I'm worried that shes manipulating my daughter and abusing her. I've tried contacting the police but they won't do anything about it. I'm trying to get this custody arrangement changed but our court date isn't for a while.

I'm worried her mom will get out of trouble and never atone for beating me.

I had a deep scratch on my face and blood on the side of my neck from her scratching me. The cop has photo evidence of this. My girlfriends and I statements are the same and will stay the same in court

I feel so bad for my daughter and I feel like I can't save her. Shes going to be traumatized from this.

My dad(M62 Undocumented) was arrested and handed to Immigration. I (M24) am finishing enlistment process with the military. Can I help him?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:58 PM PST

Although some might tell us to go back to our country, I'm only a resident and I am joining the Air Force.

We live in South FL. He was arrested for driving without a license. I feelso useless like I should be able to help him out. But I haven't gone as far as actually signing the military contract.
