I'm in accounting, I uncovered serious fraud by my employer and they fired me. How do I report it and how do I protect myself?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:05 AM PST

I work in accounting in a private company. Two weeks ago I was given documents to work on. I wasn't supposed to have access to these documents. Actually they were given to me by my manager because he wasn't doing his job. He was very late on something, which often happens, and asked me to take care of it instead. I did and started suspecting something was wrong as there were fishy discrepancies with invoices. I investigated a little on the side, which I now regret doing. It's very clear someone at our company is committing fraud, I suspect on a large scale. I was in possession of the documents for two days before my manager asked me to give him back everything and wipe some files from my computer "for safety reasons", which I did. He said my help wasn't required on this anymore. He didn't say why. The day before yesterday I tried to log in on my work mailbox from home on my phone but couldn't access it. Yesterday as soon as I got in my boss called me into his office and I was told they are firing me for not being productive enough. No other word. I was escorted out, they kept my work laptop, I can't access my mailbox anymore.

Now I need help because I'm freaking out. I uncovered fraud by accident, and I'm certain it's the reason I'm being fired. First thing, I think it needs to be reported (to the IRS or another agency), but I don't know how to do and I don't have much evidence anymore as I didn't download anything. And if I do this I'm scared I may be considered an accomplice because at first I hadn't noticed that some things they were doing were illegal and there's proof I authorized some payments. I did what I was told and didn't suspect anything but I don't know how that could look like for an investigator. There's also the question of confidentiality if I talk to someone about company matters. The files that I accessed during my "investigation" weren't protected but I wasn't among the people supposed to see them either. Could I be prosecuted or sued for this?

Then there's the matter of me being fired, it's putting me in a very difficult situation. I think it's retaliation but I don't know what to do with this. Can I file for unemployment?

I'm in this way over my head, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Edit: this is in Massachusetts.

Can my apartment legally charge all tenants in the building a fee because an unidentified tenant is breaking a rule?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:46 PM PST

So this is an apartment complex in Michigan. Once the shutdown started in March, the management stopped doing trash pick up for each building. Every tenant became responsible for hiking their own trash to the dumpster, and it has been that way ever since. Pretty much everyone in my building complies, but every now and then, there is a stray bag of trash waiting outside the front door or, worse, sitting in the hallway. No one knows who it is, and it's become more frequent in the last month. Numerous notices have been posted by management. The most recent notice reads "the next time trash bags are outside the building or in the hallway, everyone in the building will be charged $25." I've been here for years with no problems or complaints from other tenants. Is this tactic of group punishment/fines legal?

Potentially being accused of stealing rocks what should I do?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:16 PM PST

Today I was going on a walk through my neighborhood and I noticed some vacant land. There were no houses, buildings, or fences on it at all. There were no "No Trespassing" signs and I was walking along a completely public road. While walking I noticed there were some rocks on this vacant land that I saw. I have recently been looking for some bigger rocks to use in a landscaping project in my garden. I thought that since nobody was around – there are no homes in that area – that is was just open land. So, after I got home, I drove my car back to pick up the rocks which were about 15 feet off the road. I had about 8 of them in my car and I was about to leave and then a man came up in his truck and accused me of stealing his rocks. He told me that was his land. I did not argue with him at all. I told him I did not realize that, and I put his rocks back exactly where I found them and while unloading his rocks from my trunk, he started taking pictures of my car, license plate, and me. He told me to leave so I left. I realize now that I never thought through what I was doing. Now I obviously realize that those rocks were on someone else's property and I shouldn't have taken them. This guy seemed pretty upset but I returned everything, and I did not disrupt his property. Any ideas on what will be done? Would he file a police report that could get me in trouble? I live in Michigan.

    Edit: grammar and location

We got a email today from HR about individual pay rates

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 07:05 PM PST

Edit: I was wondering if there was a way to anonymously report this. I don't want to be in trouble for something. I don't plan on staying much longer after this and among a ton of other things, but I'm terrified of other potential employers finding out I reported this company.

An email was sent to the front desk and support staff of my medical office employer in North Carolina today from HR. It's... a little concerning. I spoke to my friend about it and he said it's illegal what they're trying to do. Below is a copy and paste of the email.

"Sorry for sending this email to the entire front desk and support staff as it only applies to a few. If you discuss your individual pay with anyone else in the company it is grounds for disciplinary action and potential termination. There are several factors that go into each person's pay rate. It is no one else's business and you should not share that information with anyone. If we find out this is going on moving forward consider this your warning."

Should I tell someone that were being threatened? Should I just find a new job and walk away?

Can my apartment complex actually evict us on baseless accusations of domestic violence?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:13 AM PST

I am going to try to sum this up in as little of an explanation as possible. I have lived in this complex in Cincinnati, Ohio for five years now. Once in a one bedroom apartment, then my boyfriend moved in with me and we transferred to a two bedroom and we just moved into a townhome in May.

We have had two noise complaints since the beginning of my time here. Both of which were in the two bedroom apartment. Only one was documented and given to us through e-mail. When we lived in the one bedroom we received one notice about or dogs droppings. They claimed we didn't clean up after our dog out front, which is a lease violation. (This was not true. But we didn't fight it and let it go) Another time they sent us a lease violation for leaving one bag of trash outside of our door on a rainy day. (We have a trash compactor that is a drive away, so taking it while it's raining is a bit of a hassle. We didn't fight this either) All of these incidences were prior to us transferring to the townhome that we live in now. We are in a completely different lease since May. In-between all of the years and the different "incidents" I have frequently butted heads with the property manager. Each time she has flagged us for something is always conveniently when I am trying to get them to do something that needs to be done. (Pressure washing, replacing air filters, etc.)

Last week my boyfriend and I were putting up Christmas decorations at 10:30-12 at night. We received a strange e-mail at eleven at night that I didn't see until midnight. The property manager emailed me, not even addressing me by name, and stated that they received a report about potential domestic violence from our unit. This, of course, is totally insane. In the email she said she had contacted our local police department to pull any reports that may have been made to them about our specific address, and she also said that they made a report. I called the police department and spoke to several different people, including the officer that was patrolling the area that night. I asked if they had any reports at all about our address, if they had been asked to pull reports about our address and if they had been told to dispatch to our location. (I know with domestic violence that police would be dispatched immediately) All of the people from the department were dumbfounded and confused because they hadn't been contacted AT ALL.

After I found this information I wrote the property manager back. I explained who I spoke to, what they told me, and of course denied domestic violence profusely. (Yes, I was a little rude). The next day I still hadn't heard back from her. So, I called the office. I spoke to another female that works at the office that is a leasing agent. She said that she had already heard what happened and would have her get back to me. Still didn't happen.

Finally today she wrote me again and said "With the history of noise complaints and conferences from the last apartment this a reminder that quiet hours are from 7pm to 11am. If we receive another complaint or police report they will have to give us a 30 days notice to vacate."

Again, we have had no noise complaints for this new unit and new lease. We also have had no conferences so I have no idea what this is all about? And we certainly have had no police reports filed. Is she just blowing smoke to scare us? Did she not handle something properly and she's trying to cover her tracks? Can she legitimately evict us off of NOTHING?

[MA] bought a house with gross misrepresentation of square footage

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:05 PM PST

We bought a house in Massachusetts (Boston area) in September. The total square footage stated in the listing of the property was 3,200 square foot. However, after we started renovations and were preparing plans, it turned out that actual square footage is 2,200 square foot (1,000 square foot discrepancy!). Surprisingly, neither bank assessor nor anyone else noticed the mistake. We bought it for a reasonable $/sq.ft. according to the listing footage. If we use a proper price per square foot for that area, we overpaid something around $300,000. What are our options?

HELP! Am I really exempt from overtime?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 03:14 AM PST

I am a nursing supervisor who has been called in for mandatory unpaid overtime constantly due to the COVID-19 surge here in Chicago. I worked 60 hours last week but will only be paid for 40.

I understand that as a salaried supervisor I would normally be exempt HOWEVER:

    1. I am not currently acting as a supervisor. I am acting as a regular staff nurse that they can force to work for free.

    2. I don't know if you could really call this salary. I have a time card, I punch in and out, and if I even work 2 hours under 40, my paycheck is short.

I'm told I need to be "on call" at all times, though I don't get on call pay. Is this really legal?

Today I discovered that my identity was stolen in California. I got some info from it that is useful but that led to unhelpful people. What can I do?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:50 PM PST

I received two emails this week letting me know that 1) someone was looking at buying a home with my SSID in Southern California and 2) they either tried to or successfully purchased a vehicle with my information yesterday. When I made a slightly more in depth look I found that they made all kinds of purchases at various places and opened and closed credit cards. I currently have what seems to be their current mailing address and where they purchased their new car from. I called the dealership and let them know and they told me "let us confirm your information was used for a purchase here yesterday. We have been slow, give us 10 minutes." Half hour went by and I called back. All of a sudden management was busy the rest of the day. They are aware of the situation and are avoiding helping. Is there anything I can do?

    My ex took my dog

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:56 PM PST

    Sacramento, CA

So I don't know what information will be relevant and what wont be so sorry if I say too much.

So after my ex and I split I was supposed to take care of both our dogs for 2weeks and then she would take them, I didn't hear anything from her for almost 3months at which point I told her that I was prepared to take them permanently. She would on occasion take them for the weekend and then I would take them back. So from March to November I was responsible for their well-being (food, vet, ect.) And I have bank statements and witnesses that would prove that.

This last weekend we had agreed that she would take one of the dogs for 2days. After she had the dog she told me that she was not bringing the dog back, and then tried to have me sign a paper saying that she had sole responsibility for the dog. I refused to sign (also the paper was clearly something that had been printed off the internet.)

She has the vet records under her name (I tried to change that but she changed it back) and I'm pretty sure that when we got the microchip it went under her name. Before the breakup I did the majority of the care for the dogs (feeding, training, taking them out, attention ect.) But thats just word of mouth I can't prove it. The dog is also one of my esa's at my apartment They weren't registered and there were no adoption fees.

Sorry for the long post, I know that I should take her to small claims but idk if I have a case or even how to go about it because I've never had to do any legal type thing before. Please any advice would be helpful, I'm a mess without this dog, I didn't even know she would be taken from me.

[Georgia] My employer wants to force me to pass alcohol screenings weekly in order to remain on the job, is this legal?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:27 PM PST

I am an alcoholic, I.e. physically addicted to alcohol. I do not go to work drunk or under the influence at all, but rather drink mainly at night. I typically drink half a handle of hard liquor and a few beers every night.

My alcoholism has never effected my job, and I would say based on metrics I am a top performer (top 5) in my department, and have made many connections with my coworkers and clients, and at no point have I been in any documented issues, or had any complaints.

This started around two months ago. Over the pandemic we were wfh like many people, only got back to the office a week ago. Because of being wfh, occasionally I was asked to participate in late meetings. I guess they assumed because we were at home this was fine. This night I was just getting off a 5:30PM meeting with my boss and a department head on a project. Now, normally I can get through the workday without major Wd symptoms, but by 5:30 I was in pretty severe withdrawal and decided to take a few shots as I was logging out and preparing for my final meeting of the night at 6:30 with some coworkers so I could function.

While I thought I was fully out of the meeting, apparently there was a delay between me hitting the stop meeting button on the video conferencing software and it actually ending the meeting, and both my boss and department head witnessed me pouring my first shot knowing I had another meeting to attend later.

When we got back to the office my boss pulled me aside and basically acknowledge what he had witnessed, and that while he understood with WFH maybe it was unclear the level of professionalism expected, but that drinking during working hours was not acceptable. He acknowledged my success on the team, and was willing to overlook this, but only if I agreed to weekly alcohol testing for a year. Basically a test akin to a drug test administered once a week that would tell them if I had drunk anything in the last two weeks. He explain this would start two weeks from today (giving it 4 weeks so I wouldn't 'go hot' from potentially drinking before knowing about it).

Obviously, I can not do what he is asking (abstain from drinking) with the amount I drink and the ten or so years I have drank this amount, doing so is potentially fatal. But I told him it is fine as I am desperate to keep this job (it is very high paying and I love it). They can't legally just do this can they? Alcohol is legal, and I don't see how a company can police what I do outside of work hours like this unless I'm going to work drunk or it is effecting my work!

Charged with driving under a suspended license, judge refused to look at the proof it wasn’t suspended.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:00 PM PST

My girlfriend was charged with a DUI about 4 years ago in Texas. (She is sober for over 3 years now). Her license got suspended, and her DUI lawyer at the time filed for an Occupational Drivers License. The only stipulation was she needed to have a breathalyzer in her car.

During this time she gets a speeding ticket for doing 81mph in an 80mph zone. (Thanks South Dakota). The year passes, she maintained her sobriety, paid all fines and got her real license back.

Now 3 years later my girlfriend randomly gets a letter saying "we have proof you were driving with a suspended license, you need to appear in court." We hire a traffic attorney, and the attorney finds out is was the speeding ticket that triggered this. We met with the attorney, and dug up proof that she did have an OCDL at the time she got pulled over. We felt very confident that this would get all sorted out as soon as the judge saw the paperwork.

Today was traffic court, and her attorney starts to explain that we have proof my girlfriend actually had a license. The judge says she "doesn't have time for this". The attorney try's to show the judge the paperwork, but the judge refuses. The whole thing lasted maybe 30 seconds. Then the judge ordered my girlfriend license to be suspended for an additional year, and 90 days probation.

Our attorney said we don't really have any options besides filing for another OCD.

Is our legal system really this unfair?? If the judge would've taken two minutes to read the documents, she would've noticed that there was some sort of error.

Do we have any other options?

Can the real estate agent next door tell me to get a new parking arrangement because of shared driveway?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 10:22 AM PST

(Located in Pennsylvania, USA) When I bought my house this past January, the house next door was being flipped to be sold. My house and the house next door are on a shared driveway. I didn't do the proper research before buying the house.

Finally, the house is for sale. Today, the real estate agent came by and talked to me, and gave me a letter. I will type out the letter for better context:

We have had a survey completed and researched tax records to determine there is no shared driveway agreement. So we just wanted to advise you so you can begin figuring out a different driveway/parking arrangement. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I am happy to help you in any way I can. Keep me posted on the progress. I know some buyers have expressed interest in fencing in property for dogs, so I wanted to let you know right away so you had time to figure it out."

This woman can't just, MAKE us put a new driveway in, or force us to park on the street, where no parking is allowed? She also mentioned that the guys that are selling that house, had heard that we have access to a tractor (brother in law lives on the other side, and is friends with HIS neighbor who I think owns a tractor- we've never even spoken to them), so we don't have access to one, and she can't tell me to use it lol?) She wasn't brazen enough to tell me what exactly to do, just to do something. We don't have the money to do anything right now. I don't know what I'm supposed to do here. I'm really in a rut. Thanks for any help!

Need Help! I believe our landlord is threatening to violate a MN statute

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:23 PM PST

St. Paul, MN renting an apartment unit in a typical apartment building.

Our landlord would like us to remove our window unit from a non-street-facing window for the winter. Our lease specifies that a window unit can only be installed in non-street facing windows, but does not say anything in regards to the time of year in which it can be installed. When I replied and said that we prefer to keep the window unit installed, so we can use the fan setting as even during the winter our unit gets very hot, here is exactly what the landlord has said and the section he is quoting saying that we need to remove our window unit for the winter:

"It isn't stated in your lease. 25 years and over 1000 tenants and you're the first one to gripe about it.

    Section C paragraph 5 line C states:

    Not to interfere in the management or operation of the apartment complex;

Take your AC in tomorrow or we'll do it for you and charge you."

Would having a window unit that is installed per the only terms in the lease specifically mentioning a window unit somehow legally interfere in the management or operation of the apartment complex? I feel like a landlord could basically say anything is interfering with management or operation of the complex, regardless of what is stated in the lease.

For reference, I believe in entering our unit and removing our private property, the landlord would violate subdivisions 2 and possibly subdivision 5 (though he is giving us prior written notice, kind of - he hasn't specified a date/time) of Minnesota statute PROPERTY AND PROPERTY INTERESTS>Chapter 504B>Section 504B.211, linked here

Thank you for your time and let me know if there is any more information you need.

Neighbour kid (teenager) is being abused. Asked to crash on my couch tonight and I said yes. Can I get in legal trouble for this?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 12:24 AM PST

I am going to keep this as simple as possible. I am in Nova Scotia.

I moved to this neighborhood 2 years ago. I have observed my neighbour slapping and verbally abusing his kids a few times outside in the yard. Not like beating the shit out of them, but...like, still hitting them when he is mad. I once called the police non-emergency line about it and they sent someone but I don't know what happened with it afterwards.

I have only met the parents and one of three kids. Last night the kid I met (15 or 16 years old) knocked on my door near midnight and he looked rough and asked if he could crash here for the night. I said okay and he slept on my couch but seems reluctant to go home and asked if he can stay again. I didn't call his parents.

He left today but asked if he could come back if he had to later. I said to check in with me later. I have a feeling like this is illegal and I have some lawful duty to tell his parents? I am Googling frantically but can't understand anything.

Did I do something illegal? Would letting him come back be illegal? What kind of person could I contact for advice? I want to help him but I worry that my help is only going to cause legal problems.

I hope I do this post right! My husband works in a very large national logistics firm in Cleveland,OH. They are doing some shady stuff during COVID and I need advice.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 12:09 PM PST

My husband's company is making everyone come to work despite the fact that they are able to work from home (except the newer people). Fine. As soon as positive cases were starting to show up in the last few days, they are requiring that you use your pto/sick days to cover missing a day for a COVID test (so all the people exposed had to choose an unpaid day or just not get tested because they couldn't afford to miss a day even though they were in very close, prolonged contact with the 3 sick ones. Who by the way we're forced to come in and work with symptoms)

my husband is working from home now anyway pending his COVID results and because we have an immunocompromised son. The hoops we have to jump through for this are ridiculous, including requiring new doc notes from my son's pulmonologist who basically laughed after she realized I was serious.

QUESTION: He is working normal workday hours. From home. All day everyday. They are docking his pto/sick time anyways. One of his colleagues already got a lawyer involved. Is this illegal? If so, tell me where to start!

People in Australia. How do I report my workplace for Operating poorly and sending out products with the wrong batches/expiry dates and cold sensitive goods that should be quarantined. I work in the medical industry.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:33 PM PST

Extra info. I work in a warehouse in the medical industry. Our stock is in shambles. Quantities are wrong, Batches do not match, Expiry dates do not match. We get cold medical goods that go to vet clinics which needs to be kept between 3c and 8c but when they arrive they are room temp around 23c yet we are still sending them out.

I have addressed all these issues of the warehouse to by boss and he to his boss but nothing is getting done around the place for years now and I feel that I am the point where i need to report this place for how poorly they operate especially handling medical equipment that go to hospitals.

(IN) I took my car into a dealership to get an oil change, they not only lied to me to try and get an (unnecessary) new transmission, but damaged the vehicle while it was on the lifts

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:13 PM PST

Today I took my car into the dealership I got it from to get a scheduled oil change. During their pre-service inspection, they found the fill cap sitting on top of the transmission. Apparently that can happen when the pressure builds up in the transmission, and acts as a failsafe to keep it from exploding.

While he was showing this to me, he pointed out another hole next to the fill plug that was empty and he said it needed a new cap, and that he would check to see if they have it in stock, but that he doubted it.

I left the vehicle at the dealership to get an oil change, and called them later to see what they found out about the random hole. The technician told me it was a "non-serviceable part" and that the manufacturer does not make replacement plugs, so my only option was to drive with a transmission open to the air or to get a brand new one. He was pushing very hard for the latter option.

I asked if I could bring in a replacement part from a junkyard or something and the tech said that would be fine, as long as I brought in the correct part.

I spent a couple hours doing research and going around to different junkyards looking for this part but in every vehicle I looked in and every picture I looked at the hole was left open. I called around to some transmission shops in town and explained what happened and we came to the conclusion that not only was that hole not supposed to be plugged, if it WAS plugged for some reason it would cause issues.

I then called the dealership back and had them change the transmission fluid (to fix what was causing the pressure to build up so much) and not do anything else. When I retrieved my car, the tech kind of laughed off the."mistake" about the hole, and said he got it mixed up with the ventilation hole. The ventilation hole still has a very obvious cap on it and you can see it about 4 inches away from the fill port. That doesn't make sense to me since he specifically works on these cars all the time.

I got my car to my father in law's, only to notice that when I opened my door, it caught on something. I got down to look and from what my admitted untrained eye sees, it looks like the frame next to the jack point was bent just a bit. It wasn't like that when I took it in.

Due to this, I'm having to stay in town another day and speak with the dealership, causing me to miss a day of work.

I guess my question is what next? Is there anyone I can speak to about them trying to get me to spend 4000 on a transmission? Do I need to push for lost wages for one day? If the frame was damaged like it seems, what do I do about it? Can I get reparations for the lost value?

TLDR; I took my car in to get serviced, tech lied to me telling me I need a new transmission. Caught them in the lie, and found my car damaged when I got home, possibly frame damage. What now?

[CA] Neighbor died and house is now occupied by squatters

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:19 PM PST

Our elderly neighbor died last year. He lived alone in his poorly maintained house without children or a spouse, so now we're not sure who (if anyone) has inherited the property. We've heard it may be his very elderly mother. I haven't been able to find any probate records.

The house was sitting empty for a while, and now has been repeatedly broken into by squatters and then boarded up. The current squatters are a general nuisance: they hang-out in front of the house at all hours of the night, park their cars on the sidewalk and appear to be dealing and/or heavily using drugs. Most recently, they called the police to be let out because the house was boarded up with them still inside! It's not clear if they have any relationship to the diseased owner.

Property records suggest he had a mortgage (a "deed of trust" was transferred between two mortgage companies back in March 2020), which I assume is no longer being paid.

What's the most effective way to remove these squatters? I guess that foreclosure will happen eventually, but it seems like that could be a protracted process.

Want to Break Lease at College Apartment (off-campus)

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:26 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

I will try to keep this short. Please ask me for details, if needed.

    This is in North Carolina.

So I'm a college student currently living in 3 bedroom apartment. The rooms are rented by the bed.

I'm trying to break my lease because I have had to quarantine for two weeks on two separate occasions. I've have 4 different roommates since March; two of which enjoyed partying on the regular. Due to this, both tested positive for COVID-19 (not at the same time). This has forced me to miss about 4 weeks of work in total. On top of that, I have had to pay to get tested twice. Additionally, I will be starting a new medication soon which will leave my immune system compromised.

I've already tried subleasing. I'd like to move to a single bedroom apartment in a different complex. However, my lease runs through July 2021. $685 a month plus electric.

Is this a valid reason to break my lease? Can I break my lease any other way? Other than pay off the remainder of my lease, I do not know what my options are.

Edit: I wanted to add that I renewed this lease in February.

    Thanks in advance!

My Roommate won’t pay rent (Dallas, Tx)

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:21 PM PST

I moved out my apartment two months ago and found out my old roommate didn't pay her half of the remaining rent which was around $300. She had moved out in July to move in with her ex boyfriend but (I have proof over text) she stated she would take care of her half of rent until the lease was up. Can I take her to small claims court to get the money for her half? Is it worth my time to do this? Can she legally get away with this? She just stopped responding to me this past week and it's clear she isn't going to pay, let me know what my options are, thank you! (This was in Texas btw, Dallas area)

I'm 16, for college I want to go to USA but i don't want to let my parents know that yet

I [16F] have very controlling parents. I have brought it up to them that I want to travel to USA for college but they instantly shut me down. It broke my heart but I don't want to give up. Both my older brothers moved to Australia for college but I'm not "allowed since it's against the religion for females to travel alone." Yet I took the SAT and am planning to take AP exams which are required for international students in the US. I don't know what I'm hoping, maybe if I get accepted in a university they'll change their mind? We are UAE expats, my siblings and I were born here and my parents migrated. According to the law a daughter's visa is under the father's name for as long as I'm not married. I honestly don't want to get married yet. I'm afraid if I stay more than 20 years with them they'll marry me off. I don't want it to come to that. I don't know if anyone in this sub knows anything about UAE law and college requirements. I refused to take EmSAT which is required for universities in UAE. I don't have a western passport so I need visa for any coentry I want to go to. Is there anything I can do according to the law to force them to let me go or should I swallow my feelings and stop? I feel trapped.

Edit: I'm from Bangladesh, a small country near India. My parents migrated to UAE and we were born here. That does not make us citizens as UAE doesn't allow that.

My girlfriend’s(18) mother(40) refuses to relinquish her state ID, birth certificate, social security card, and health insurance card.

My girlfriend lives in New Haven, Connecticut and her mother is currently in possession of her state ID, birth certificate, social security card, and health insurance card. She refuses to give them back to her and has only given her photo copies instead. She has no way of contacting her mother through social media or any other way other than through a third party. She stays with her dad and they have no reliable mode of transportation or steady income. Can she take any legal action against her mother without getting an attorney?

Photos of me topless when I was 16 are on a former friends Flickr account. How do I go about getting these removed?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 09:22 PM PST

Hi guys! I'm writing this from a throwaway as it's very uncomfortable to talk about and I have some people in my life who know my Reddit. When I (21,F) was sixteen I did a photo shoot for a friends high school photography class. They involved me being topless (in a bra, not completely bare chested) and I learned tonight that the contact sheets of these photos are still available for public viewing. This makes me extremely uncomfortable for a lot of reasons. Mainly, I was only 16, uncomfortable with my body at the time, and my full face is in several of these photos. This former friend does not log in to her Flickr account and I no longer have her number. I contacted Flickr's support and asked that they be removed and explained why these photos were an issue for me. Now I'm extremely anxious that these may actually be child pornography and have no idea where to go from here. I have no interest in any kind of legal action, but I cannot contact the owner of the photos. Are these images of me child pornography? Can I be in trouble for helping create them? Do I have any right to get them removed? Thank you all. Edited to add another question: how do I get these removed without causing trouble for this friend in the worst case scenario that we did unknowingly create child pornography? Second edit: I am in Indiana, and most of the pictures are of me in a bra and leggings, with my full face.
