My boyfriend [22] was drugged and raped by two of his female friends. [Houston, TX]

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 08:45 AM PST

Last night during a friend gathering, my boyfriend had his Gatorade drugged by two of his female friends, who then proceeded to undress and sexually assault him. He doesn't remember much, he remembers passing out after drinking his Gatorade, and he remembers gaining consciousness once during it happening and one of the women saying that he should just lay back, pretend that it's me doing things to him, and that he should enjoy it before he passed out again. He's a black man, and the two women in question are white and Hispanic. He refuses to report this because he doesn't believe the court system will help him in any way. He did not drink anything alcoholic during the gathering, and the only drugs he took were put in his drink without his consent. What can he do about all of this in terms of legal action?

My wife just purchased a dental practice and the former owner keeps coming in at night to get old patients information/call them to get work done after hours. Current office manager is in on it too.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 11:09 AM PST

Office manager is from the town of the practice, been here for 30 years and planning on making a post on Facebook telling patients not to come here. She will stay here until the former owner gets all his money and will sue me for age discrimination if my wife fire's her then she will leave. Office manager said this all this morning and former owner will be giving her a cut.

I am heading over to the practice in a bit to install interior cameras, along with my wife called her lawyer about the situation, but what else can we do?

(TX) My child's other parent is being investigated for child support fraud, what does this mean for me?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 11:29 AM PST

I've been notified that my daughter's other parent is getting investigated for lying about their income regarding child support. Our daughter is 11 and when she was born the other parent claimed zero income and that they were supported by money from their parents. Since her birth I have made between $60 and $72,000 a year I've paid for everything, her daycare, her medical insurance and anything else she needs. Her other parent hasn't paid anything. We share custody and time with her but I was ordered by the court to pay the other parent child support due to me having a higher salary. Now the other parent is under investigation for having a trust fund in their name given to them by their parents. It was not disclosed to the court ever. When we went to court after my daughter was born I had a lawyer from legal aid due to not having started my job yet. I don't have a lawyer to help me navigate this now. This trust is quite large according to the investigation, their parents are wealthy enough not to have day jobs. From it the other parent would likely get more than I make in a year. But I don't know how this works. What does this investigation mean for me ultimately, if anyone here knows.

My ex wife [28] didn’t properly serve me the whole packet of divorce papers and now I’m receiving a default divorce notice, months later [Los Angeles, Ca]

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 05:13 PM PST

I was handed two pages of a 12 page divorce packet 9 months ago. I assumed there'd be a full packet before I could be considered properly served but it never came and I have a default judgement against me. The first two pages just talk about the dissolution of marriage so I had no idea what she was asking for. I assumed nothing but the divorce. Now this default packet is saying she is being awarded alimony and full custody when we already had an order for shared custody.

I immediately filed a motion to reverse the judgment but the judge advised that if my ex's boyfriend got on the stand and stated under oath that he served me the full packet, I'd have paid $500 in filing fees for nothing. She literally said all he has to do is lie under oath and she'll take it as truth. So what do I do? Should I still push the motion? How can I fight this?

I'm working HR (not trained) new hire sent me a picture of voided check with his penis clearly in the background. I don't think he did it on purpose, but what should I do?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 01:18 PM PST

So like the title says, I'm filling in HR since our normal HR person quit. All I am really trained to do is onboarding which I do in addition to my normal duties (software engineer). I am getting $1000 extra a month for maybe 10 hours of work so I'm happy to do it.

We hired a new engineer last week and I had to handle his onboarding. One of the requirements is that he send a photo voided check to our application/onboarding site. When I was reviewing is paperwork I could clearly see his penis "behind" his check. What it looks like he did is took a pic of his check at the edge of his desk, was sitting there naked and didn't realize that he captured more than he meant to.

He's a 54 year old software engineer coming out of retirement to help pay for daughters school. I have met him on zoom several times and there is nothing about him that says he did this on purpose. He wasn't aroused in the picture and other than the fact he works naked from his computer, he seems like a very normal guy.

Our company policy is immediate termination for this and if I tell my bosses (married couple) I know that the husband will want to blow it off but the wife will make a huge deal of it and this poor guy wont get hired. What I feel like I should do is just take the picture, crop out the bad parts and reupload. 99% chance no one will ever know but there will be a digital record as I'm sure every picture uploaded to the onboarding site is saved somewhere.

I guess even worse is that this wasn't an accident and it turns out this is a habit of his, then i did nothing when he pulled is first dick pic.

    Any advice?

My boss reversed my direct deposit after we got into an argument and I quit.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 04:31 PM PST

I work as a 1099 contractor doing video editing and producing. My boss has been super flakey and overall just unprofessional so after he paid me yesterday I told him I didn't think we should work together moving forward. He absolutely lost it, berated me and then reversed the direct deposit he had paid me the day before for work I had already completed.

The bank told me there was nothing I could do since he could still reverse the payment while it was pending.

He lives in Illinois and I live in California. I'm pretty sure all of this is illegal since I hadn't agreed to work to a certain date or anything and he had acknowledged my invoice and said over email he was going to pay it.

I guess I'm just wondering what my best course of action is? Can I file a dispute myself here in CA, what rights do I have as a 1099 contractor?

    Thank you in advance.

(NYC) Getting sued by crazy neighbor for 13 Billion dollars!

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:30 PM PST

I was served with papers (Summons with Complaint) filed in the Supreme Court of New York a few days ago.

My neighbor, who as far as I can tell suffers from schizophrenia, is suing me and other tenants in the building (as well as the mayor, police department and a few other city organizations) for poisoning their water, causing remote electrical shocks to their body, monitoring their movements, and another 20 pages of rambling complaints of what is clearly a mentally disturbed person.

They are demanding judgement in the sum of 13 Billion dollars for their suffering.

I don't even know this person. The whole thing is obviously crazy, but I have no idea how to handle this. Should I ignore it? If not, what exactly do I need to do? I have never been sued before and I have no experience with the legal system.

I read online that I need to file an answer within 20 days or risk default judgement. How exactly do I do that?

Billed $43,000 out of network for treatment not received.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 06:52 PM PST

Long story short, I (27M) in Philadelphia and have myxoid liposarcoma. A rare cancer. I was seeing an oncologist for treatment and recommended and rushed me to get radiation therapy from a doctor at her hospital. I agree, call insurance while in the lobby (all happened within 12 hours). was told the facility was in network for me by insurance but doctor was not. The hospital told me not to worry about it. Even the doctor said not to worry about it that he would bill under another's name.

I get a second opinion because he starts to radiate my lymph nodes and I do not have a lymphatic cancer and I want to make sure he's doing it right. He gets angry at me and said "you should not have done that" while I'm on the table getting ready for my second treatment and says he will not continue to treat me.

I just received a bill for $43000 all billed out of network. My max out of pocket is $16,000 and is what they are requesting.

How could they say I was in network then bill out of network? How was 1 session (not 1 course.) just 1 session out of 30 $43,000.

I ordered 2021 calendars depicting my artwork from a small business and sold a fair amount. I recently realized that one of the months was printed completely wrong, and the business won't refund me or reprint the calendars. Is there any legal action I can take against the company?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:38 PM PST

Basically what I said in the title. I am an oil painter (in Indiana), and I decided to sell a calendar this year featuring a different painting for each month. I sent images of my artwork to a small calendar printing company and they sent me the calendars, which I sold through my art business. After selling a fair amount, I realized that the month of March was totally wrong—it started on the wrong day of the week.

Things get complicated because the calendar company was sold while I was doing business with them. So the new, current owners are not eager to give me a refund because they did not initially make the deal with me, and the former owner says it's not her problem anymore.

This debacle has cost me a lot of money—I may have to refund all my customers who now have defective calendars, and I have a bunch more defective calendars that I can't sell—and I am also worried about the blow to my professional reputation because of this. Do I have any legal recourses against either the current or former business owners who sent me defective calendars?

My Sister's Surgery Fucked Up Her Life.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 06:10 PM PST

Hey guys, I posted this story elsewhere to seek advice from those who'd undergone the Gastric Sleeve and wanted to get their opinions. But due to a recent discussion with my mum, she's considering take legal action.

I didn't have it done. My sister did.

A few days afterwards, she had two seizures both around 6am. The first was because her sugar dropped and she was dehydrated. The second time, we're unsure. She's never had seizures before. She's never had a problem with low blood sugar. She has been in and out of the hospital and they've been running tests. She doesn't have a history diabetes or epilepsy.

She is super depressed. She doesn't move from the couch. She can't drive for 6 months because of the seizures. She's constantly running to the bathroom and her sugar keeps rising and falling. It's like living with a ghost.

Her doctor doesn't care. He thinks everything is fine. He didn't showcase concern about her being hospitalized 5 times. He didn't tell her all of the possible side effects... even rare ones like hypoglycemia .

My mum is thinking about getting a lawyer due to the doctor's negligence. Is it even worth it? Would it help? Is this something we should try?

Please. We're desperate for answers or advice. I just want my sister back.

Koodo Mobile conducted an external check against my credit report for another person's activation

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 06:45 PM PST

Edit: Location is Canada, British Columbia.

Recently, I noticed a significant dip in my credit score, so I checked my credit monitoring services to see what was going on.

Apparently, my local cellphone company, Koodo had sent unpaid bills to a third-party collections agency.

Problem is, I don't have an account with Koodo. This account was apparently activated under a person with the same last name, initial, and the same birthday, and living in the same province as I do. That's as far as the similarity goes. We live in different addresses, have different phone numbers and different first names.

I filed a dispute report with TransUnion regarding this, and they were able to remove the other person's information, all except this Koodo account. TransUnion apparently tried to contact Koodo regarding this account and their validation team basically said it's not a fraud account so it will be staying with MY credit report. I've just called TU and they said the account is still active under my credit report. I've created a case with Koodo's customer support department to escalate the issue.

I happen to work in the telecommunications industry as well. However, during activation, we put in all the pertinent information, as well as the billing address, and valid forms of ID and their expiry dates so that we can conduct a reliable external credit check before activating services. However, Koodo has done something completely wild here, where they used the other stranger's IDs and address, but it appears that their credit check system didnt even utilize anything but our last names and birth dates.

I have had my credit score affected multiple times by this person and I am not willing to compromise and let it slide after the situation is fixed. I'm looking to restore my credit score to before how it was affected, and further protect myself from false inquiries. By now, the other person out there potentially has a huge list of my information available to them.

What can I do moving forward? How can I ensure that creditors don't use my info to open a line of credit whenever this stranger decides to? Do I have to inconvenience myself and freeze all lines of credit and approve them manually every time I need to make inquiries? Is there any legal action I can pursue against a responsible party here? Is this a case of ID fraud, or a mistake from creditors? or the credit bureaus?

I have too many questions and any help would be appreciated.

Woman backed out of a parking space into me as I was driving by. Who's at fault?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 02:16 PM PST

Title says it most of it. I was leaving work, driving through the lot when I realized a car I was about to drive by started backing out right before I was to pass them. I swerved to try and avoid it last second, but it was too late and she hit the side of my bumper and above my rear tire. Big deep scrape.

I've never been in any kind of accident before at all. Normally I'd think I had right of way and she should have seen me, especially since there were no cars parked around her for over 4 parking spaces in either direction, but she came out of her car yelling "whats wrong with you?" Over and over. She yelled at me that I should have honked, why didn't I see her backing out, why didn't I yield, she has "ptsd from shit like this" so on and so forth, which really had me shaking.

I tried to get her information, but she refused to give me her insurance info, opting instead for letting me photograph her ID, get her plates, she texted me from her phone so I had her number. She said she couldn't give me her insurance because it is on an app and she needed to hurry and pick up her kid, and then left.

I feel like I have more than enough info to keep her liable for this and there were working cameras pointing at the lot (it was at a school where I work and she was a sub), so I think now I should just get a repair quote right? Is there anything else I should do? Or should have done? And what kind of car shops to I go to? I've never been in an accident, nor am I big into cars so this is a new deal for me. I want to seel the car in a year or 2 so I can't leave it like this.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

    Edit: location is Spring Texas

And she texted me her insurance info now. I called and made a claim, but I'm not sure how thats going to go. Based off what I described above, am I at fault? She seemed adamant I'm at fault for not taking better action to avoid her and her insurance rep seemed like he was implying its weird I think she would be at fault.

Accidentally included on an email thread regarding a wrongful death at a retirement home.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 10:23 AM PST

A couple weeks ago I was accidentally cc'd on several personal emails going between co-workers at a retirement home. They were discussing the death of a patient in their facility because an employee chose not to do CPR because she was "not trained" to do so and because the patient had COVID and she did not want to be in close proximity to him. There were 4 emails sent to me including the last name of the patient and the name of the employee in question. I forwarded the emails to leadership at the facility and they have asked me to destroy the emails. I feel like this needs to be elevated, but I'm not sure what steps I should take to make sure this is handled appropriately.

I was robbed at knifepoint while working.

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 04:04 PM PST

I worked as a pizza delivery driver for over a year and had no issues. Then one shift as I was parking the company car near the end of my shift three men approached me and cornered me in the back parking lot. They proceeded to assault me at knifepoint and threw me on the ground and beat me up. ALso they stole my new iPhone 11 I had just bought. My boss gave me time off work and I have not returned to work after all of this happened (2 months ago). She said she would not give me money for my phone and that I have to file it under my home insurance. (Live in BC Canada btw). My work did not have any cameras or lights up in the back parking lot creating an ideal spot for a robbery. I was given 2 shifts coverage only from WorkSafeBC.

When another worker's bike was stolen before, she offered to give him $200 to replace it. Nothing for me even tho I was robbed AND assaulted.

Overall: I was assaulted and robbed as I worked as a pizza delivery driver. Not only was I beat up but they took my phone. My boss is not helping me with getting a new phone or anything else. Police never caught them.

Is there anything I can do to recover the cost of my phone or deal with not working?

State is forcing me to pay child support, but I live with the mom and have been paying for the child since birth. (Wisconsin,USA)

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 01:52 PM PST

My SO (21F) and I (28M) just had a little boy 3 months ago. We have been living together for 2 years and I have always been the main paycheck as I pay all of the bills and she stays home with the baby. I was there at the birth and I signed the birth certificate. We are not legally married because we never felt the need too. I recently got served child support (CS) papers saying I have to pay CS. But we have the same bank account where my paychecks go. We even have the same address! To get out of the CS we would have to get married in the next 2 weeks. We really don't have the money due the holidays so I can't afford it. Any help?

A botched hysterectomy ruined my mom’s life but I’m worried about the statute of limitations

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 08:33 PM PST

In 2016, my mom (now 49 years old) underwent a hysterectomy because she's anemic and medically needed "that time of the month" to stop. After the surgery, she was in extreme pain and called her doctors repeatedly to report it, but was told it was expected given that she had a surgery. Luckily, they had gone through her belly button for something and a build up of urine broke through her stitches and she noticed urine leaking from there. She went back into the hospital and they determined that they had accidentally stapled her ureter. During surgery, not only could they not fix the problem, she began to wake up from an anesthesia and could feel their multiple attempts to remove the staple. Imagine it as sleep paralysis, being fully aware of what's happening but unable to move or alert anyone. An anesthesiologist was not in the room. However, the surgeon apologized during the surgery, something along the lines of "I can tell you can feel this but we're trying to fix everything," but I'm paraphrasing a bit. They did nothing about it.

They were not able to fix her system. Urine now gets filtered from her kidneys through the ureters to her bladder, and normally, the urine should not be able to backtrack into the kidneys. It's sterile until it gets to the bladder, but if urine builds up at all, it forces itself back up into her kidneys, resulting in many, many UTIs since 2016 (6 this year so far). After the botched surgery, and the failure to fix anything, she had one of those bags and a tube in her back for 2 months, followed by a catheter for another 2 months. During this time, she became depressed, wasn't able to do anything she normally did, and was emotionally and physically drained constantly. Family members recommended at the time that she sue, but she did not have the willpower to balance trying to file a lawsuit. And it wasn't until around 2018 after everything she had to go through that it was clear her life would not return to normal.

Her constant UTIs are causing her to become immune to many antibiotics they've used to treat her. She isn't able to swim anymore or do anything water related because it affects her system. She can't travel long distances because if she doesn't go as soon as she gets the urge to urinate, it backtracks and gives her an infection. The trauma of waking her while she was being operated on is still with her. She still feels the physical and emotional toll of the doctors' many mistakes.

I'm not knowledgeable on the subject. I've heard something about a 2 year statute of limitations or something with medical cases. Does that mean she couldn't sue now over this? It wasn't until those 2 years were up that she knew this wasn't something she could recover from, and therefore didn't know there was so so much more damage she should have sued for. Is there any legal case here? All this took place in Dallas, TX. Thank you in advance for any help. I can answer any questions you may have

Is there anywhere to go to after being kicked out at 16/17 by abusive parent with no one to take you in? Is forster care an option? (Time sensitive)

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:26 AM PST

Okay, so, this is not my story. It's my friend who's going through a tough time and I'm just wondering if there's anything legally that he can do in this situation.

Sorry if my formatting is bad.

My friend (Let's call him Derek, fake name) has been abused for a very long time. His mom has been abusing him for years and his father had passed away when he was young.

I very much saw a lot of brusing but she emotionally abused him as well which is a lot harder to see.

Things very much escalated one night which ended with Derek having multiple visible bruises, some of which he never showed me, and he was kicked out with only the clothes on him. He didn't even have shoes on.

He ended up staying at his God Father's house for a few days with everyone else in the family screaming at him to go back.

Of course, he didn't want to go back, but he now hears that his mom has some blackmail on the God Father's business and the God Father wasn't willing to risk it.

Derek is currently still at his God Father's and called me crying about it today which is why this situation is time sensitive.

At this point, foster care is the optimal situation but we're not sure how to get him there. The police and some kind of child protection service have already visited his home when he still lived there but never found anything against his mom. She was very good at hiding her abuse.

They were even called recently by his therapist but they didn't really do anything.

So legal reddit, I come to you now. What can be done at this point?

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Edit: we live in New York if this helps

Urgent Real Estate advice needed please!

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:46 PM PST

I am in the process of selling a vacant parcel. The vacant parcel is next to another parcel owned by someone else (lets call it parcel 2). The owner of parcel 2 has submitted plans to the city, but the neighboring golf course has been fighting it. Parcel 2s meeting was supposed to be in January, but now just got pushed to April. This is the background.

My buyer was in the transaction, 1 day away from closing, and the city planning manager sent an email to my buyer saying "highly recommended that you do not yet make an offer to purchase this property (because of parcel 2s issues)" and "do not close escrow on this property" and telling my buyer to wait and see what happens to parcel 2

Well that killed my deal. This can't be legal can it? I have a photo of the email from the buyer.

Employer Making Me Sign Non-Compete After 1 Year and a Few Months

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 01:06 PM PST

As the title states, my employer of 1 year and 3 months presented me with a non-compete form to sign, stating "they had lost mine" in my in-office file and HR had as well at our parent office. My other coworkers were told the same thing today as well. Two of them were just onboarded in September and the other two started at the same time as me. During onboarding, my previous manager mentioned a non-compete but never had me sign one. If I refuse to sign it on the grounds that I've been employed for over a year, can they terminate me? If I am terminated over this, do I have any recourse? I live in Kentucky, but my company is based in another state.

Florida - Selling my condo, but because the HOA hasn’t approved a 2020 budget, perspective buyers are being turned down. What can I do?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 10:26 AM PST

    Hello all,

I'm in Florida, and I'm selling my condo. The HOA board has not approved a 2020 budget, but said that they're working on a 2021 budget. My realtor said, and has been confirmed by the HOA board, that without the 2020 budget, people who want to buy my condo, will have to have 20% down and a conventional mortgage with a high credit score, or pay cash. That leaves out people who have FHA and VA loans. Not just me, but other sellers are having a hard time finding buyers who fit these requirements. The HOA has said that because of COVID they couldn't have a budget meeting, and that it's too late in the year to make a 2020 budget. I have no idea how HOAs work, and I don't know what to do. Can anyone help guide me in the right direction? Thank you!

I forgot to pay rent on time and received a "notice to leave the premises" do I have to leave it just pay rent?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:43 PM PST

I completely forgot about my rent and it was 2 days late and I noticed a letter on my door notifying me the rent was late. So I went and paid it right away. Then I realized there was another letter with it saying it was a "notice to leave the premises" and said I have 3 days to leave. The leasing office is closed now so I can't call then until tomorrow. How does this usually work? Will they make me leave for being late even if after I paid the rent? It is not possible for me to pack my stuff and move out by Friday. I live in Ohio btw.
