Can a parent force birth control on mentally ill 15 year old who wants to get pregnant?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:27 AM PST

My daughter has a brain injury from a car accident that affects her frontal lobe/ decision-making. She's been hospitalized 10+ times for mental illness/ suicidal behavior. She's recently become obsessed with getting pregnant because of glorified stories from others at the mental hospital and just told me she had sex with a boy in the school bathroom. I have a gynecologist appointment scheduled for her, but they couldn't see her until January. I've googled this, but can really only find information about the opposite scenario where a minor WANTS birth control without parental consent. I'm in Alabama. Anyone know what parental rights are concerning this?

Friend had community service and was made to get on a good - resulted in a broken ankle.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:04 AM PST

Friend 31M was completing mandatory community service in Atlanta, GA. Community service leader made him climb up on a roof to remove debris. When he was getting down, the person did not hold the ladder correctly and it resulted in a fall where my friend broke his ankle. Did not call an ambulance and did not take him to the hospital. Made him sit on the ground and wait for his girlfriend to pick him up while he continued to work.

First, is it legal for him to have people working on roofs? Are there limitations on what they can have you do? Also, who is responsible for the medical cost?

I work at a doctor's office that is refusing to comply with our state's mask mandate. Is my employer required to inform patients that they have been directly exposed to an employee that has contracted COVID-19, or to close the clinic for cleaning and sanitizing?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 04:09 PM PST

I asked my employer if we should let the patients know (since many of them are elderly), and he specifically ordered us **not** to tell the patients that an employee was exposed. He refuses to discuss the topic in writing at all, and will only discuss it onsite in person (I originally tried to text him but he refused to engage over the phone, and he also refuses to send any formal emails regarding this). I also asked him about closing the clinic to clean (we don't have a night shift), and he said we just need to come in a bit early and wipe everything down really good and it should be fine.

Is this within his legal responsibility as a doctor (or as a business owner)? And if not, what can/should I do as far as reporting this?

    Some further details for context:

-This occurred in Alabama. We currently have a public mask policy in place requiring all citizens to wear a mask in "any indoor space open to the public."

-My employer has not been complying with this order, and has not been wearing a mask at work, nor enforcing the mask policy for employees (I have been wearing one myself).

-The employee in question has also not been wearing a mask at work

-The employee contracted COVID-19 and did not inform my employer for several days, during which time she willingly and knowingly worked in the same room with patients, in close proximity and with no mask on.

Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere, I read the COVID faq beforehand and didn't see these specific questions.

Mother of child restricting access to child due to covid, moved away, new address now unknown (TX)

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:08 PM PST

I'm asking on behalf of my partner who does not have reddit so I hope that's ok.

He shares custody of his 9 yo daughter with his ex wife who decided their daughter could no longer visit according to their standard visitation schedule as cases are high in Dallas county. (Even though every emergency order issued by the Texas supreme court states that covid is not an excuse to alter visitation schedules.) Due to his ex wife's unwillingness to comply, he's decided to file a motion to enforce the custody agreement outlined in their divorce decree. Except he recently found out that she's moved an hour away and she will not provide the address or commit to their custody arrangement. He cannot afford a lawyer or a PI to track her down. He is able to talk to his daughter on the phone but fears he will not get visitation for Christmas. According to the divorce decree their designated location to switch custody is the mothers residence but now he doesn't even know where she is.

What can he even do? Can he still file a motion for enforcement if he doesn't know her address?

[PA] My sister, who is addicted to drugs, established permanent residence at my disabled, elderly mom’s house by sending mail there (and intercepting it). She has destroyed the house, and my mom has no ability to force her out (despite having no lease) according to police. Please help.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:27 AM PST

This is an extremely unfortunate situation.

My sister was clean from drugs for quite some time, but in January started using again. She lost her apartment, and her kids went into foster care (I can't take them as I live out of state).

Knowing she was going to lose her apartment, she started to send mail to my mom's house. My mom is wheel chair bound and elderly. She then showed up one day and said she lived there with her husband (another drug user, although he's currently in jail).

The police were called to remove them, but my mom and me were told that they can't be removed because this is now their permanent residence. The mail being sent there I guess is enough to establish that in PA.

In the next month, my sister nearly killed my mom. She ended up in the hospital with sepsis. This is because she wouldn't let the nurse into the house to help.

Now there's a new nursing company, but they won't come in because my sister has destroyed the house so bad (feces on the floor somehow), that the nursing company thinks it's unsafe for a nurse to go in.

I have talked to Elder abuse services, social workers at the hospital, the magistrates office, the chief of police, and they all just shrug and say they can't do anything since it's my sister (and her husband's) legal residence. Which is insanity. All my mom can do is evict, but she has no legs, and my sister destroyed her computer. My mom would need to show up, and they aren't even processing evictions right now.

What can we do to get my sister out of the house? Before she really kills my mom this time (she wants the house permanently). Her husband is getting out of jail soon and there is a COVID outbreak there, and he's going to come to my mothers place. COVID would kill my mom.

Any help?? There has to be something.

Neighbor put electric battery on mutual fence

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:06 PM PST

    Looking for some advice here....

Neighbor has two dogs that are outside most of the day. Both our yards are fenced with a metal, see through fence that seperates our yards. It's about 5 feet high.

We recently got a dog and let her out to go to the bathroom. When this happens one of her dogs starts barking which results in my dog running over towards the fence who then starts barking at that dog. The other dog is aggressive and has tried to get through the fence. My dog is no angel but she is just barking, not attackign the fence. Her dog actually cut his mouth from trying to bite through the fence at my dog.

So, she says she has some idea on how to take care of it and shortly thereafter she has attached a white canvas tarp attached to the fence. Fro a while it seemed to work and I notice my dog running back from that area. At this point I'm thinking that if they can't see each other then maybe it's working.

However, white canvas falls down and then I see two battery charged units attached to the canvas but no longer attached to the fence. Long story short, I looked up these units and they apply battery powered eletricity to metal. I have two kids who play near the fence who thankfully have not been impacted.

My question is if this is legal or is just an ass hole move. It seems she is trying to impose harm to my dog but could be argued it's for hers. To be clear, it's not an electric dog collar, it's charging the actual fence. I'm in California.

    Appreciate your insight and opinions!

Neighbours keep stealing and tampering with my parcels. I’m at my witts end with it.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 04:44 PM PST

    Hello,

Since I've moved into my place I've had nothing but problems with my next door neighbours, at first I got friendly with them and they were coming over to mine and I was going over to theirs, but I started to notice random things going missing (bottles of bleach, whole tin foils, soap, and even a pair of my brand new trainers), while this was going on parcels would never show up, but I just assumed it was because a lot of delivery drivers do find it hard to locate my apartment, but one day I was in their flat and noticed they had the exact same electric tooth brush that I had ordered before (that never showed up) in their bathroom.

This is when I started to suspect them, so I stopped letting them come round. But ever since, parcels STILL go missing if I'm out, luckily Amazon refunds me, sometimes they don't go missing but they've clearly been opened and celotaped back together (this is usually when it's of no use to them or something invaluable)

What can I do legally? I can be a bit of a hot head and they have kids and I don't wanna go round there screaming and shouting, as much as I'd like to, and they're proper chavs, so wouldn't care to argue infront of their kids anyway, and I can see that getting out of hand because I'm pretty f&/>#ing angry about it! So I need to be tactical about it.

I should also add, my mother's the estate agent that manages both of our apartments, they shouldn't even be living there and they were squatting for a long time, it's only recently benefits have started paying the landlord directly, they owe the landlord over 10,000 in rent, obviously I can't do anything about this but I just thought it might be relevant. I've also reported her for benefit fraud since her partner lives there with her and she's claiming as a single person, it kinda serves her right for helping themselves to my stuff.

    Thanks.

My Aunt Died left behind a 15y/o Daughter with Grandmother

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 06:41 PM PST

This is in Ohio. So a couple of weeks ago my Aunt died of cancer. She had full custody of her daughter lets call her Emily whom is 15. My Aunt and Emily have lived with My Grandmother for most of Emily's life, after My Aunt divorced her husband, Emily's father. The "Father" only seen Emily for the first 2 years of her life. Then took off to Kentucky. Now that my Aunt has passed away, no will. My Aunt was hell bent on beating cancer again. It was always known the father has made no attempt to call or see Emily. My Aunt was always very upset about the fact he didn't really care about Emily. My Grandmother has live in the same house for 40 years and still has the same landline number for the same amout of time. So there is no reason he couldn't call her or come and see her if he wanted to. The "father" recently started paying a hundred dollars in childsupport a couple of months ago. But, still no attempt to see Emily. He owes $20,000 or more in back child support. He has filed to try and get custody of Emily. And has moved back up here. Which no one knew until recently. He moved back up here because he has an warrant out for his arrest in Kentucky. Is there any way we can use the arrest warrant in our favor? My Dad, and Uncle, and my self and cousins are willing to do anything we can to help my Grandmother. Any advice on what my Grandmother can do to keep Emily is much appreciated.

USPS won't deliver mail to my parent's home due to dog on premise.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:17 PM PST

My parents have had this dog for several years with zero issues. He is a large dog but a big baby, is never aggressive towards people or dogs. Recently, he's "learned" how to bark and began barking as a way to alert. I can 100% understand that the USPS mail carrier was alarmed by the sudden barking from inside the house through a secured metal door. For reference, the mailbox is located right next to the front door. There is a front yard and driveway that you can walk across.

Although this dog is the most gentle giant, I obviously won't waste time trying to convince anyone that this dog is a big sweetheart because everyone says that about their dogs. The dog used to always be in the backyard but have been incidents of suspicious people casing the neighborhood (it is generally a calm, nice neighborhood), so my parents brought the dog inside for the safety of the dog.

My parents have contacted the local post office multiple times to inform them that the dog is secured in the house with no way of getting out. The manager at the local post office acknowledged this and said the deliveries would resume. However this has not happened and the carrier apparently still refuses to bring deliver their mail even though the dog is nowhere to be seen and is inside the house pretty much at all hours. They have not received their USPS mail or packages for months now. They rely on snail mail for bills and things like that as they are not technologically savvy.

What options do I have here? I have also considered just telling them to install a drop box near the very front of the yard so the mail carrier doesn't even have to come close to the front door but not sure what good that will do if the carrier is ignoring requests from their own manager in the first place.

Edit: Also, not sure how to help them get their mail in the mean time...I can't seem to find any clear information on this online. Is it just all accumulating at the post office or is all the mail being sent back to the senders?

    Fired for discussing wage theft

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 06:53 AM PST

This morning i walked into work, was asked to meet with my boss, and fired on the spot. The reason given is that i was overheard discussing with another employee (by a customer) that the owner had stolen money from employees in the past and that he should be careful. The theft occured much earlier in the form of editing my clock in time. If i clocked in at 6:30am for example, he would say my shift started at 6:45. I have no idea how regularly he was doing this and the only reason I know is because the manager of the store told me she saw this personally. Can I report this anywhere? Would it be fruitless? This is just one aspect of what amounted to truly horrible employment, he hired someone i specifically told him beforehand had sexually harassed me in the past, he allowed a customer who very regularly sexually harassed me (telling me I'm "looking good" while looking me up and down, trying to give me gifts that I rejected, asking me where I've been when I'm gone and asking my coworkers where I am and when I work next, etc) to continue coming in because he said he "needed the business". At this point I don't want my job back but do I have any recourse?? There's also a roach infestation i could report and plan on reporting but that's less personal experience and more just me being vindictive

EDIT: in nebraska can i still apply for unemployment? Can it be denied because he's mad at me?

I'm in TX and I'm the custodial parent. So we follow the school district that she lives in with me? Daycare really doesn't have a schedule like the school district. Need some help!

(Military) I could be leaving for a reclass training that would last 5 months out of state. Is it legal for my apartment complex to cancel my lease?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 07:52 AM PST

    Hey y'all,

So I haven't gotten orders for the school yet, but it's looking like it might happen soon in the near future. It would last 22 weeks, or 5 months. I just signed a 12 month lease for my apartment this past October.

I really like living here, so I asked my leasing office how I could best prepare my things in order so that it would be a smooth transition if I do have to go to this school. They informed me that their policy is that they cancel leases after deployments that last longer than 4 months.

I could understand a lease cancellation if I were deploying, but because this just a school, is there anything that would protect me from a lease cancellation?

edit: this is in the USA

    Harassment

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST

What does one do when they're being harassed and local law enforcement sits idly by? My neighbor has been following my wife, threatening her verbally when she leaves our house or goes to get the mail. Local law enforcement started by saying the instances weren't documented enough. When we got documentation of the interaction through security cameras, they said it was consistent enough. When we got proof it of the harassment happening almost daily, they said it would just be categorized "an on going dispute". When our neighbors added honking their horns outside our house between 10:30pm and 11pm, law enforcement said they have to be there when it happens to take action even if we have video with sound for even a noise complaint.

At this point, what happens when it escalates to physical violence. Will nothing happen? All signs point to "yes". He's threatened me with such and it has been caught on camera, but the local law nor city will do nothing. I wish this were a situation where I'm doing some sort of antagonizing action to spur such out-rage, but I am not. This all started with a trespassing issue on my property and has turned into this. Iowa if you're wondering location.

I'm going through the civil court system to get this squared away, but that doesn't stop the bleed. I've already talked to leaders in my city who have nothing more to say than "sucks to be you" or "feels bad".

Thank you for reading my rant/narrative if you've made it this far. I'm beginning to understand why people don't trust the law or or legal system.

Canada- victim of Hit and run - Should I change my mind?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:46 PM PST

    Hey guys

So almost 2 years ago my wife was victim of an accident (Long story short: Hit and run but the guy turned himself later, she's doing better now but still goes to physio, but recovered like 95% of her arm movement). We have lawyers taking care of the ICBC claim (insurance here in Canada), we are going to receive compensation in the future.

This my final week if I want to press charges personally against the offender (it's been almost 2 years), but honestly, the guy is a simple (apparently illegal) worker, so I'm really not willing to start a lawsuit that will take a long time to received small (if any) money from him. I'm happy with the compensation we are going to get with the IcBc claim.

Should I change my mind? If so, it too late?

Does 30 day eviction notice from rocket lawyer.com need to be notorized?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:43 PM PST

Hi looking for advice about having a tenant evicted. My father rented his camper out to a married couple. The camper is on his property right behind his house. They haven't been paying their part of bills including rent, water, and electric. I got a 30 day eviction notice off of rocketlawer.com and had signed up for the 7 day trial for document defend.. my dad wanted it to be notorized, and then serve the eviction notice, however we haven't been able to get it notarized. Since we signed up for that 7 day trial for document defend along with eviction notice is from rocketlawer.com as well having the membership from there after the 7 day trial, do we really need it to be notorized? Would it still be a legal 30 day eviction notice? The couple was renting month to month basis however haven't paid anything much at all. It was pretty much a verbal agreement, I believe? We live in South Carolina if that helps.

Can I still sue my “contractor”safely? Is it worth it? (Left incomplete job)

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:37 PM PST

    Hi,

So I'm hoping this is the right place to post, but I had been doing renovations to my mother's house after a fire. However, the contractor, who first lied to us saying he's licensed, did not finish his job and left AT LEAST 30-40% of the work incomplete. The reason being was because he ended up overpaying for electrical work to the electrician (who may or may not have overcharged him). He said he would not do anymore work unless we paid an extra $13,000. We had paid $46,500 and the total cost of renovations was $53,000.

He still has to extend one of the rooms, which was part of the contract. The contract also said the given amount and what exactly he would work on.

The thing I'm worried about is that he apparently has all his money, assets, and etc under his wife's name. If I were to sue him, would I still be able to get that money? I heard something about California law (I'm from LA), that because they're married, his wife's money could cover the costs.

The contractor left an incomplete job, and my mother and I had to spend a lot to somewhat finish certain but we can't do more at this stage. He took advantage of my mother because she's elderly and they're the same ethnicity. He kept saying he would give his contractor license number and then it eventually came out he lied. He also said he would get permits for everything and he never did.

He was extremely sketch and the contract said to pay minimum $1-2k per week but every week he would demand more and mentally torture us and say he wouldn't do anything unless we paid more although the contract said a payment of $2k per week.

We all had a meeting with this jerk, my family, and another guy who makes houses. We reached a compromise to pay him an extra $3000. (This dude is a complete asshole, and he lied to us in the meeting saying we requested extra ceiling lights. We did not. We always requested 30-34 ceiling but weren't sure how many would be needed throughout the house. He lied saying we requested only "FOUR". Even if we just put the ceiling lights in our living room only, we needed at AT LEAST EIGHT. He was saying each one cost him an extra $100 even though I bought the casing for the inside and etc, but we were like we'll take the loss and pay $100 per extra light the asshole was complaining about which ended up being $3000. My mom was ready to give the $3000 extra check, but he ghosted my mother completely.)

I'm just worried that if we sue him, it's going to be useless since all his assets and money are under his wife.

I don't know what to do... we're not super rich so the lawyer fees in itself will be expensive for us, which is why we're being hesitant to sue. I'm stressed and this pandemic made it so much worse...

Employer ignoring me, won’t allow me to sign my contract and is underpaying

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:27 PM PST

    Australia, New South Wales

Hi all I'm a 17 year old Australian living in NSW and am employed as a part time worker at my local Pizza Hut however I have never been offered a chance to talk about my hours or sign a contract to officially bring me on as a part time worker.

I have repeatedly messaged both my boss and manager (text not talking in order to keep hard evidence I've been trying to figure this out) about making a time to talk about my contract and asking to be made casual if we couldn't do that, I was told there were no casual positions available and they would sort out my contract. I then followed up days later and was told no conversation has taken place and again two weeks later where I was ignored completely. I have still heard nothing several weeks later and don't know what to do, the random hours and days would be fine if I was being paid as a causal worker which for someone my age is significantly more per hour however I am currently being worked as a casual employee with part time rates.

I am worried about going to fair work as since I don't have a contract I worry I will just stop getting shifts all together and won't be able to do anything about it, any advice is greatly appreciated I apologise if I was unclear about anything, wrote this as I was getting ready for work and it was all on my mind. Happy to answer any and all questions again thank you for any advice.

Does selling items online on sites like Ebay, discogs, etc violate use of premises clause of residential lease agreement? US Arizona

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:13 PM PST

I resell items online on Ebay and discogs as a part time way to make extra money. It is not a full time job and I don't consider it a business and more of an extension of my record collecting hobby. My leases has a Use of Premises clause that states:

The Premises shall be used and occupied by Tenants, My name, as a private single family dwelling, and no part of the Premises shall be used at any time during the term of this Agreement by Tenants for the purpose of carrying on any business, profession, or trade of any kind, or for any purpose other than as a private single family dwelling. Tenants shall not allow any other person, other than Tenants' immediate family or transient relatives and friends who are guests of Tenants, to use or occupy the Premises without first obtaining Landlord's written consent to such use. Tenants shall comply with any and all laws, ordinances, rules and orders of any and all governmental or quasi-governmental authorities affecting the cleanliness, use, occupancy and preservation of the Premises.

I have around a 100 active listings. No one comes into my home. All activity takes place online. I package items and store them at my residence. Its very small time.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Employee caught stealing—can pay be withheld?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 04:27 PM PST

Withholding pay from a termed employee who stole?

I'll be posting this on r/AskHR but here goes:

A friend who owns a small business called me to tell me how he caught an employee stealing from the till. He called the police and will be pressing charges. However, she is still due her last paycheck. He asked "can I withhold the difference she stole from me?"

Honestly, I don't know, especially since this is far from my HR specialty. My hunch is "no," but I promised I'd ask around. If it's truly no, what are his options? Can he put the money into an escrow account until she's prosecuted? Does he have to pay it all out and then recoup in a civil case?

He is in Georgia (the US state) by the way. Thanks all.

Is it legal for a parent to deny prescriptions to their underage minor that they allowed before?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:06 AM PST

    [Pensacola, FL}

My mother's gotten into a dispute with us kids (17, F and 19, M). She's threatened to abandon us for 2 or more weeks and cut off all means of money from us. That would mean we would have no way to refill my prescription that is used to prevent seizures. It's due for a refill before those 2 weeks and could potentially be life threatening. Keppra has withdrawal symptoms when its done overnight, which includes increased seizure frequency and status epilepticus. It's warned against to stop cold-turkey without consulting a doctor first.

I've been on this medication for about 5-6 years now. I've tried to wean off of it before but we saw activity increase and went back to the regular dose.
