    Orignal post

I brought this up to a lawyer and they laughed. I made the designs before I started there on my own computer on my own time. They had no legal claim to them, and they were just trying to bully/strong arm a 19 year old designer.

My lawyer sent back some type of legal letter and they immediately apologized and said that any designs I didn't specifically make for customers were mine and mine only. My lawyer said something along the lines of "they can't afford this type of suit." as they are a mom and pop type company. Lawyer did it free of charge.

All worked out in my favor!

(Update) Car illegally "repossessed"/stolen by bank when I had full title

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 12:24 PM PST

    Original Post

Thanks for everyone's advice, it took about 2 months to resolve but as of yesterday I finally have my car back.

This was the biggest pain in the ass I've had to deal with ever, I went to the local PD again to talk to someone else other than the front desk and a fraud detective finally took a meeting with me 2 days later assuming it was a fraudulent title loan that caused my car to be repossessed but after he looked into it he concluded it has to be a bank error and went with me down to the auction yard the car was parked in.

The auction place actually has procedures in place for this (surprisingly this isn't as uncommon as you would think which to me is horrible). They placed the car on a do not advertise/sell list and pointed me to the bar phone number to find an attorney. They couldn't just give me the car and the detective with me said until the paperwork is proven invalid he cannot really do much, even though he checked with the DMV and said my title is valid. He explained that technically my car is not stolen even though it isn't in my possession. Odd but at least he took the time to check into all this quickly.

I asked him what legal issues I would have run into if I would have just came at night and taken my car back and he recommended against it. While I may be right in taking it I probably would have more legal issues to deal with that just are not worth the time and money it would take to resolve.

I called the number and was given 3 attorneys and met with with two of them and the second agreed to work with no money down for a retainer and he started sending letters to all the banks, the tow company and the auction yard. I went and rented a car from a place he works with so I would have no out of pocket expenses which was great because renting cars is expensive.

The bank that had my car repossessed that had nothing to do with my loan decided their best move was to fight this and responded saying basically that they will come after me for all fees associated with it being held by the auction yard now and that I should stop perusing this because they are right. Later I found out this is just their common response to repossession attorneys and they don't even look into matters right away.

The auction place responded saying the car will be held securely by them and that they will not release the car to anyone until this is resolved. They were actually really nice and called me asking if I wanted them to turn it on weekly, and that they would keep fresh gas in it and put it towards the bill for holding it.

After a bunch of letters back and forth between the bank that was wrong they did a 180 and said they would not be perusing any further action and they would contact the yard to say they can release it to me. I guess it took about a month and a half for them to finally look into it and realize they were entirely wrong. They didn't want to pay the yard fees for storage or my rental, lost days of work I had to deal with this etc so I didn't go get my car. It took my attorney finally setting a court date to get them to pay what we were asking.

The two questions I wanted answered before we settled was why did they even think they had a right to my car and what went wrong for them to take the car without any checks in place. They never did answer these and instead decided to continue to be asses and said since they've accepted a settlement that any further fees incurred are my responsibility should I not accept immediately.

So I now have my car back and have settled with the bank, the tow company however is still an ongoing legal process because during my lawyers investigation it appears their paperwork was not what's legally required in the state of Texas to take a vehicle and when they notified the police of a repossession they lied. This one will be a bit longer because it's not just us and them and now state regulators have been notified and issued a notice of investigation and have requested paperwork and such from both of us.

I now have cleaned out my garage finally and keep my car inside overnight, thanks for the advice and help. Its ridiculous that this is common enough that the auction place has procedures in place for illegal repossessions. I recommend you keep your cars in your garage if possible.

My job is calling my hobby Off-Duty Employment and is requiring that I ask their permission to do it, as well as document it on my timesheets. It also comes with shift restrictions. Again, it is a hobby, not a job, but they refuse to recognize the difference.

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:25 AM PST

I work in Civil Service for Washington State. My boss recently approached me stating that I needed to put in a request for off-duty employment for 2020. I asked which employment he was referring to, and he told me my hand is considered off-duty employment because I'm out playing shows from time to time.

Not that I wanted to share the details with anybody, but we don't get paid most shows, and when we do, it's never like getting paid for a job. Case in point, our highest paying gig ever was for $175 split 6 ways. Each gig day is a 9 hour or so turnaround, so it's a pittance. More like gas money.

We have another musician in our organization, but yes of a totally different class than I as he plays casinos and festivals, signing contracts with the venues.

I tried to explain this to my boss, but his response was to ask if I've ever made money doing it. I told him about the pay, figuring it would only prove my point about how it wasn't a job, but he railroaded on by saying it doesn't matter how much money I make or how infrequently I make it, if I've earned money, then it's employment.

This is where I feel I need to be defensive. What if I sold something on OfferUp? Is that then employment by those standards? His response is that it wasn't about the money, it is about my commitment to outsiders in my off-time. I feel if that's the case, then would watching my nephews be considered employment, if commitment is the definition?

He stated that I was being unnecessarily defensive, and that he didn't follow my logic. He then asked what I was trying to hide.

My apprehension is that if this is outside employment, then it has to be reported on my timesheet, as well as be subject to blackout hours based on when my shift is. The wording is vague, so it's a slippery policy. If my band is a job, then is writing a song "working"? Do I have to report it and be subject to blackouts? Is doing artwork for posters, listening to music for inspiration, mixing recordings or practicing my instrument employment, if those tasks will go to the development and benefit of the band?

Now, we do have rules for the police and our communication officers, who are considered first responders, but I'm not one of them. I'm support staff, not armed, uniformed or commissioned.

It ended with him saying that I was at risk of non-compliance if I don't have this in by December 31.

My union rep was at first on shaky ground about it, as he felt I didn't have a leg to stand on as the band has stuff on iTunes, Spotify, etc. But my response is that we are selling Intellectual Property, which is not employment.

My band is really just a social club, so far as I see it. We aren't going to be rich and famous from it, we are just dudes who play together and try to have some fun while doing it. If we can get gas money back for our efforts, awesome, but in no way do I see it as employment that should be subject to my boss's approval, review or scrutiny.

Somebody help me out, I'm flailing here.

Robbed by Amazon - Amazon takes $2700 for a malfunctioning laptop return, refuses to refund it, and won't give back the laptop either. Is this illegal?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 02:32 PM PST

I'm down $2700 vs the third largest company in the world, and right now there's nothing I can do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On October 28th, 2019 I returned an ASUS laptop to Amazon for $2700. The laptop was malfunctioning with a broken left speaker, broken wifi card, and dangerous degrees of overheating while in sleep mode. Amazon said I could return it, so I did.

On December 3rd I called to find out why I still hadn't received my refund. The order page simply said "Item is on the way back" with no further info for 5 weeks. They finally told me the order "was not the same item" as what was sent. Impossible unless UPS somehow mixed it up. The associate finally put in a ticket saying they'd look into it and get back within 5 days.

Another 2 weeks and I've still received no response. I call back again and this time get a different answer. They did receive the correct item, but won't give me a refund because it "has fingerprints on the screen". What? They said it has signs of use, but it was in perfect exterior condition with zero damage when I dropped it off. This was a defective laptop that I used normally at home, returned because it was defective in the same condition that I got it, and they're now withholding thousands of dollars for what amounts to 30 seconds with a cleaning cloth?

All of this is while Amazon has both the laptop in their possession and the $2700. They've left me in limbo with zero contact at every step and I've had to fight to even get basic information on what's going on. They don't even know if they still have the laptop in their warehouse anymore. Even if I do somehow end up getting the laptop back from them, I've now got a defective laptop that I can at best sell for a $1000 loss on eBay.

I'm really not sure what I can do here, legally or otherwise. Amazon is bullying me out of thousands of dollars and not even giving me the information to attempt to resolve it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Some other miscellaneous info. The laptop was an ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo, i7 model for $2499.99 + $200 tax. I'm in Georgia and the laptop was purchased on a debit card with Bank of America. BoA says I can try a chargeback, but I don't know if that'll actually work and I've heard that'll result in my Amazon account being permanently locked (or worse, getting sued). I doubt I can really do anything legally vs a company as huge as Amazon other than waving it as a stick. I'm from a family who immigrated to the US so we don't really know all the legalities and banking processes here either.

    Employer keeping me from quitting

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:50 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as a paid intern at a small company in Los Angeles, CA.

I told my boss the other day that I won't be able to work past early January due to having to return to my home country.

My boss replied that the earliest he'll let me leave is at least mid February and is not willing to negotiate.

Is he allowed to keep me from quitting like this? Would leaving without his consent affect me legally or have any consequences?

Sorry for the limited English and thanks in advance for your comments.

Girl I had a one night stand says she will go to the police and say I raped her if I don't pay her $2000.

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 03:08 PM PST

I had a one night stand with a girl. I went over to her place when she texted me at 1am to come over. The text started out sexual with exchanging of pics. She then told me she was fucked up on Molly. She said come over but bring gum and water. I went over we talked for a few hours then she took her panties off and we had sex. Im not ashamed to admit the sex wasn't good and I didn't last long. She kicked me out and I went home. This was 2 days ago, she just texted me how she feels used and disgusted and how I raped her, I didn't rape her. She says she can't sleep or eat. She says she will file a claim with the police. We texted for a while then she says if I give her $2000 she won't file a police report. Is there anything I can do? I'm freaking out I can't go to jail or lose me job but i don't have $2000 I'm a server and barely have $900 in my bank. Is there anything I can do?

(CA) Can you speak to other people’s minor children without their permission?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:38 PM PST

I live downtown in a big city in California. There is a pair of adolescent girls living in my apartment complex who sometimes break the rules. It happens; they're kids. But on Sunday at 2:00 am they brought a group of about five friends into the common pool area for a sleepover. That area closes at 9:00PM and their noise woke many neighbors up. The parents were not with them, they were unsupervised and they are about 10 and 12 years old. I went downstairs and asked them to return to their apartment. I was nice about it and used a soft voice. A few minutes ago (Tuesday) their dad angrily confronted me in the elevator— he was screaming profanities and threatening to do something if I ever spoke to his kids again.

What is the law regarding speaking to another person's minor children? Was I breaking the law by asking them to return to their apartment?

Why will no lawyer represent me?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:28 PM PST

I got a fare violation in Portland Oregon in 2016 and it was filed as a criminal charge. I have never been charged for a crime before or since. I never saw a police officer or a judge. Since then I've been rejected apartments, rejected job offers, and community service simply because commercial reporting agencies are reporting this as a felony! All I want is for the fare violation to be either properly filed or expunged from my record, yet I have tried to reach out to many lawyers and even contacted the Oregon Bar Referral Service and nothing. They all say the same thing (they don't handle these types of cases and this decision has nothing to do with whether or not it is a legitimate case) but their website and the bar association say they do... What am I doing wrong?

Boss Threw Away My Sales Log for a Commission Based Job

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 04:14 AM PST

I work for a telemarketing firm that sells theater tickets for theaters around the country. My boss doesn't put hours or commission on our paychecks. She gives us a weekly log sheet so that we can track our hours/commish ourselves. y she doesn't include the hours/commish on paychecks I have no idea.

Recently, with no advanced notice, she told me on a Saturday that work had dried up and that I'd have to take the coming week off. (Fast forward to 3 months later.....! ) Some sales are called Pendings, meaning I called a customer who wanted to buy but he didn't want to give his credit card over the phone, choosing to call the box office directly to pay. Because I prompted the sale, I still get commish once the sale is confirmed.

It's the honor system. The box office reports to my boss who then tells me what sales have gone through and then I get paid. However, in 6 months, my boss hasn't said a word about the pendings, I've asked quite a few times and know some have gone through. The other day, I called to ask how much I had sold in the time I've been at the company. I was going to ask for payment based on a guesstimate of how much went through. She said it was too much work to look up and gave me a guesstimate that is way too low. When I said I'd come in to grab my sales log , she told me she threw it away. WHAT? "everything's gone to recycling." WTF? It's the only way I can know if I'm being paid accurately not only in terms of commish but hours.

Keep in mind, I didn't quit or get fired. I was allegedly on hiatus so I would have had no reason to have made a point of taking my docs with me or coming in to pick them up. She even threw away my employee handbook so I don't know what my rights are.

What legal/some action can I take to force her to tell me what sales went through? Do I have a wage theft claim even though I don't know for certain what pendings went through? Is there a regulatory agency like the dept of labor I can file a complaint with.? Should I call the client directly, even though I don't think I'm supposed to according to company policy.

And do i have a legitimate complaint about the fact that she told me I'd be off for a week only to never ask me back, delaying my job search? Thank you very much.

USA - Washington state. Landlord is trying to charge me for pest control for entire building ($3,300) as they found roaches behind fridge during inspection

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 11:59 AM PST

Yesterday a letter was left on my door stating we are responsible for the pest control treatment for our apt. building as they say we are the host of the infestation. The amount is $3,393.69 and he says we have 10 days to pay or move out. I didn't even know the roaches were there.

I have been very sick and have a liver tumor that the doctors are trying to determine if its cancer. I'm only 40 and dont drink so I was very shocked and am scared. I have been focused on that for the last couple of months and didn't even realize there was any bugs. Our apt. is clean, dishes done daily and trash taken out every few days.

The landlord also stated that there is an issue in building A and we are in building E on the other side of the complex. I feel like this is an issue with the building not my husband and I.

I just don't know what to do. We can't afford this at all. My husband is working, but I am out of work due to the health issues. We are on food stamps and on Medicaid, but we pay our rent on time every month. We just cannot pay this additional pest control bill which is outrageously expensive.

We are living in Olympia, Washington and I appreciate any help or advice as to how to respond to the landlord.

[VA] My ex/daughters mother beat the daylight out of me yesterday in my own home, tried to strangle me & refused to leave after i said it over 20 times, i swatted her off several times as she kept on coming for me after i broke free. I had to leave my own home to get away. Note: We dont live togethe

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 10:54 AM PST

My ex has been trying to get back with me but i have not been interested. Shes been extremely bitter and resentful. Yesterday she came to pick my daughter up and my daughter was asleep (4month old) i told her she should let her sleep longer because she was passed out. My daughters hands were clasped together and you could tell this nap was something special. Usually in events like this my ex will go out and smoke cigarettes and ride around or go do something but she just stood there silently. My phone had instagram open and there was some random girl skateboarding picture from my timeline on it. She snapped attacked me clawed me against the wall. And thats when i started saying "leave" " get out of my house" she wouldnt leave and kept attacking me. Id break free and shed come right back nails first so wherever she grabbed me her nails would dig in first. I started swatting jer hands away, then she came for my face and i punched her the butt. All the while telling her to leave. She wouldnt still so i went for my phone she jumped on my back and started choking me i got my phone and recorded it. She brought me to the ground and had me in a choke hold and i literally could not breath i broke free and ran out of my own house. I walked around the block and came back and told her i called the police (i did.t because this is my second week living g at my new place and i do t want to get kicked out, i got kicked out of my last place because of her) She smacked me across the face jerked my daughter up out of her sleep and left and got charges pressed on me before i had the chance to go to the police. I had to go to work so i did t get to stick around and file mine but i am this morning. I was also arrested last night after work.

    What charges can i press?

Do i have any protection or rights in my own home?

Please help - child custody in Ohio

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:17 PM PST

I am an unwed mother in Ohio. This means, by law, I have custody of my child.

However, dad is controlling and is escalating. I can't get custody paperwork because I just simply have custody of her. He has started taking her from daycare without telling me ahead of time.

He is not abusive toward her other than not seeing her for weeks and then randomly showing up without telling me. He is her dad and she adores him.

I feel stuck. I want him to be able to see her but he refuses to set a schedule. We had a shared calendar he kept manipulating. I paid for the pro version so I could see updates in real time. Once he knew that he tried to put her in for a month at a time and only "let" me see her once a week.

I talked to our daughter (7) and we came up with a 50/50 plan. I erased his month, entered in the plan she and I came up with and his app magically "broke." He basically disappeared after that, said he was busy with work, and hardly saw her at all.

He was telling me if he'd take her and I've never kept her from him. I strongly believe this is a power move over me. If it was about her he'd try to see her more and be communicative with me.

I am terrified he will take her one day and not return her. His name is on the birth certificate. I don't want to traumatize our daughter.

I have spoken to a lawyer and citizens services (pro se services) who both said I have nothing I can file to get something set with the courts. He has to. He can get temp custody just by claiming she's in danger or he can file for regular custody and court would be in 90 days.

I am stuck. He showed up at our family thanksgiving and sat outside demanding to see her. I ended up letting him have her because his mom wanted to see her.

On her birthday he sat outside my front door with pancakes until I answered the door and let him in uninvited.

He is telling her and my son from another relationship that he needs to come to our house for Christmas because he's too sad and busy to put a tree up at his house.

I am scared. What are my options? Do I have any at all?

I've been told even if the police get called they just don't get involved.

parents forged my signature and got a loan in my name without telling me

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 02:59 PM PST

Basically what the title says; posting here because I want to know if there is anything I can do about this situation!

I started my freshman year of college in 2017 with the understanding between my parents and I that they would pay for my tuition, and I had financial aid that made it very affordable (about $3000 USD per semester). I found out several months later that my parents had gotten a loan in my name for my school bill which totaled about $5400. I knew nothing about this until fairly late in the school year, so I don't know how else they would have gotten it without forging my signature. And, because they should have only had to pay around $6000 for the entire school year, i'm guessing they got the loan almost immediately after I started college because of the amount.

They have been planning to sell their house for a while so they said they were going to pay for the loan with the money from their house sale. but it's almost 2020 and they still haven't sold their house, and I am stuck with the lowest possible credit score because this loan is in my name. Also, I am not 100% sure about this but I don't think they have made a single payment on it yet. Is there anything I can do to raise my credit score or change it so the loan isn't associated with my credit? I currently don't have the funds to pay it off myself at this time.

Is it legal to use loudspeaker that plays gunshot SFX when thieves steal packages from porch?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 03:29 PM PST

I have had a few packages stolen from my porch recently and even with video evidence, cannot get any action from local PD. I'm an audio engineer and have quite a bit of audio equipment and thought it might be a fun project to hide some large speakers on the porch and when the thief takes the package, play some gun shots or other fun SFX. I don't have neighbors in the immediate vicinity, but I have already spoken to a few of them with this idea and they gave me their blessing. I know "warning shots" with an actual firearm are illegal, but what about artificial gunshots or even firecrackers?

I sold a Wacom tablet for $1K and buyer requested a return after telling me that he caused the error. Customer care allowed the return after I tried showing them a video on how I sent the package. I have a damaged tablet and some accessories now. What are my options? [USA, MI]

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:05 PM PST

    Hi there,

I am making a quick post because I am a bit upset and let this carry on for a little bit since the beginning of December. My main account is r/Morasumi. I just had to make a new account because I forgot my password on it and forgot which email I attached onto it. So, forgive me if this is a problem.

Anyway, I sold a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 on a selling app for $1k. It is a selling app that can be found easily on Google Play Store or visit their website. It should be a well known selling app. They have a 3 day window return policy as opposed to other websites or apps.

I have proof of how I sent the tablet. I uploaded it onto YouTube. I just don't want to post it here since you can see my address and stuff, but if anyone wants that video I can show proof of it. You can see the tablet working 100% perfectly with the plastic protective coverings and the plastic protective coverings on nearly all the other accessories, as well. I took care of it since I bought it a couple years ago. I made sure to show in the video of how I sent everything.

Anyway, buyer messages me saying this: Buyer admitting to causing the fault

Then a few minutes later I get a request saying that the buyer had requested a return.

So fast forward a little bit their customer service allowed the return even when I tried showing them proof of the condition I sent the item and saying buyer admitting to causing the error.

So, I made sure to take another video of how I received it. Basically, it is broken and not how I originally sent it. All the plastic protective wrappings and such are gone and there are other slight blemishes and damages to the other accessories, etc. I uploaded it onto YouTube, as well. This seemed to not phase them and somehow I received it now is how I sent it... like wtf?

I have been super upset about all of this 100% and kept trying to keep my cool the entire time. Made a request for the supervisor saying that the tablet and accessories isn't how I sent it.

They gave me requests asking for pictures and then saying that they can't see the videos, but I have another one of their team saying she saw the video I made of how I sent my tablet.

Customer care admitting to seeing what I meant in the video of how I sent the tablet and accessories

After their return team allowed the return... I asked for review and was then told that they can't generally see videos after the return was approved

So, I thought I would be nice and screenshot the two videos I shot. 55 photos were given on how I sent the package. 36 photos were given on how I received the package after the return, especially to show the errorm

I waited and they just got back to me earlier saying this:

My request from the supervisor being denied

So, in conclusion they are saying that how I received the tablet from the buyer is how I sent it.

    That is 100% false.

What are my options when it comes to this sort of thing? I am losing out on damages and the selling app / customer service team doesn't want to take responsibility, especially for their mistake. That money was really important to me. I needed to pay a doctor. Not to create a sob story, but that is the truth. They seem to not even look or care about any of the proof I provided.

I can provide the video link of how I sent it and how I received it. I can show the error, as well.

This is the screenshots I sent to Mercari to show proof that the tablet was 100% working. Also, at the end of the video I made sure to show that I gave it to the postman and showed the receipt with the tracking on it. I can upload those and blur out the other personal information.

    Proof 1

    Proof 2

My daughter (17) is being sexually harassed by another employee at her workplace

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 11:44 AM PST

My daughter works for a large chain coffee shop in Canada. A male employee (20) continually harasses her. He will sit beside her in the lunchroom with his leg touching hers so she has to move away, grab her by the waist to "teach her a dance", tell her he can't wait until she turns 18, touch her face, etc. He comes in on his days off and bothers her as well as during their shifts. She does nothing to provoke this attention but also hasn't told him bluntly to stop. She has spoken to her supervisors about her discomfort but has not spoken to her manager yet. She feels like when she tells him to go away that he becomes angry and she also feels uncomfortable talking to her manager because she feels that she doesn't like her.

My initial advice last night to her was to speak to her manager about her discomfort but to also let her manager know that she will be dealing with it firmly from now on. I told her to simply say "That is not appropriate, I'm not interested, please stop" to him anytime that he does anything in the future so that her manager understands that she is willing to deal with it.

As her father, this is a tough one for me. I've never had to deal with this type of thing before and the more I think about it, the more I realize that this, unfortunately, is a reality that most women have had to go through at work. It is crazy that a 17-year-old, or any aged woman for that matter, should have to deal with this on top of all of the regular stresses that come with having a job.

One last thing about this situation... The employee already has a restraining order against him from an ex-girlfriend and his dad is actually in jail for similar issues (I'm not sure the specifics) so I am concerned about her safety as well as her comfort.

So here is the question... Should I go with her to speak to her manager? I have had no dealings with her employment thus far, she got the job herself, deals with everything to deal with work on her own, she drives herself, etc. I want her to be safe and know that I support her but I don't want to give her bad advice or overstep either.

Thanks for any insight you might have on the correct way to handle this situation.

Gave police a false name and skipped town, they want evidence on a homicide I witnessed.

I was asked by police to stay behind after having witnessed a homicide. I gave the cops a false name and have left the city I was in. Is there anything the cops can do the punish me?

Wife works as a nurse, patient pulled a BB gun that a hospital employee gave him

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:05 PM PST

My pregenant wife works at a hospital as a nurse in Washington State. Today she had a patient pull a BB gun on her that a hospital employee returned to the patient unbeknownst to her. The patient arrived in an ambulance and had his possession placed into a bag. Several days later, the patient was mentally unstable and was being difficult and asking to leave. During her break someone apparently brought the patient his belongings, which included a BB gun that looked real. She returned from her lunch and went to talk to him after she heard he has asked to leave again. At that point he was walking around the room with the gun in his waistband. After she questioned him about wanting to leave again after he told her earlier he would be staying over night he showed her the gun in his wasteband and she ran out of the room to call security.

Security responded quickly and subdued the patient and it ended up being a BB gun, but my wife spent the next 5 hours crying hysterically and is still shaken up about it. This seems like an egregious error on the part of the hospital. No way should an employee give a weapon to a patient like that who is still in the hospital.

My wife literally shaking thinking about going back there. Do we have any grounds to stand on legally here?

I went to the police this summer to report my stalker resurfacing and never heard back after I identified him in a photo collage. Just got a call from prosecutor and court is apparently on Wednesday.

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 10:52 PM PST

I live in Washington state. This is the first I'm hearing from the prosecutor. I had no idea my case had gone anywhere, I've been dealing with this stalker for 3 years and have filed multiple police report with no follow up, so I wasn't expecting anything. Turns out the prosecutors office made a spelling error and have been sending my mail to the wrong address. I have no idea how many letters or for how long they've been sending them. Nobody called me until today. I was at work and I was honestly so shocked it didn't register how absurd it is. The prosecutor said my stalker's defense attorney suggested a deal where my stalker promises to never contact me again and if he does he waived his rights to a trial. The prosecutor said about the court date "you're welcome to attend." This man has terrorized me for years, and I've been begging for help for years. All of a sudden there is a court date on Wednesday and I have never spoken to the prosecutor, don't understand the process I'm walking into and I feel like I have no one on my side representing me. Is this normal?

Lawyers trying to force reintegration therapy with suicidal teen daughter.

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:39 AM PST

I have been divorced for several years with sole custody of my daughter. My ex was abusive and has not been in the picture since the divorce. My daughter has been in therapy because of PTSD, depression, and suicidal ideation. The main thing she is suicidal about is having to be around her father, fear of her father, etc. Recently my ex filed for visitation rights and the custody evaluator is trying to force reintegration therapy. The evaluator has downplayed how abusive my ex was and also completely disregarded my daughter's therapists insistence that my daughter has threatened suicide over forced therapy or custody time with her father. My lawyer is concerned that if I don't do what the CE says, and that if this goes before a judge, that the judge could make things even worse. What can I do? Isn't there some kind of emergency action that can be taken when a teen is suicidal? I feel like my lawyer is worthless.

    U.S/Mexico border crossing.

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:34 AM PST

    Hello r/legaladvice

I've been traveling from Los Angeles to Tijuana every weekend for the past few months to shoot bits and pieces of a short documentary I am directing and independently producing.

The documentary is about the city of Tijuana. I want to introduce her with her notorious flaws of drugs, violence and homicide. Slowly, I want her warmth and hospitality to unravel through the exploration of subjects.

I've been crossing my professional film equipment back and forth, in my personal vehicle, no problem until this past weekend.

The CBP officer that was at the entry point this time informed me that if I did not have a CARNET for my film equipment it can be seized by the U.S government upon entry.

I visited the link below to find out what the officer was talking about.

    https://www.cbp.gov/trade/programs-administration/entry-summary/ata-carnet-faqs

Since I am not using my equipment for commercial use does this still apply? As of now I have no distribution for the film or any financial backing from anyone. I'm just a guy in film school, with film equipment, making a thesis film for school. I have always been upfront about this when crossing.

Does the CARNET still apply to me?

Also, as an American citizen, is it within my rights to video record my border crossing experience with the CBP officers? Are they public officials like police officers?

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

    Looking forward to your comments.

Engine got destroyed at the dealership

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:16 PM PST

I have never posted in here before but I need help badly. I am not sure what I should do next.

I dropped my car off at BMW (Richmond BMW - Midlothian) for a pre-purchase inspection since I had a buyer who wanted the car looked over before I sold it. I got a call saying that something had happened to the engine about 40 minutes into my appointment. They initially lied about the situation saying the car hadn't been driven and hadn't even left the lot. I later found out they did after a witness saw them driving aggressively down the street. I eventually talked to the GM and service advisor about the situation but they treated both my fiance and I disrespectfully and told me that they weren't going to fix my car and that if I didn't want to pay for them to fix it that I needed to have it towed off their lot. During this meeting I found out they had driven the car four miles. After lying about all of this initially, I had asked them to stop working on the car and they continued to work on the car "saying that they lacked in communicating that to the tech." Now I am currently out of a car and have to replace an engine that is currently nonfunctional. The headgasket, spark plug, ignition coils, fuel injectors and starter all need to be replaced in order to get it running again(I brought it to another shop). Surprising right?? for a car that went in running and was about to be sold. I drove the car six hours the day before.

Another thing to note is I paid for them to replace six spark plugs to see if it would fix the problem and I only received one. We pulled the plugs on the car after we towed the car and all the plugs are black except for the one they replaced. so not only did I leave with a destroyed engine, I paid for services that I did not get and they failed to stop working on the car after I asked them to stop. There are probably some details I am missing but if you could please help me I would appreciate it. Thanks

    My Brother is getting bullied

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:49 PM PST

So it has been around 3 months and my brother has been getting bullied by some...chubby kid... we told the VP(Vice Principal) if he can do something but let's the kid off with a slap on the wrist. The school also has a no tolerance policy. Now the question is can my brother punch the kid back and will he get into trouble? And yes my guardian knows that this is happening. Even Guardian asked the VP for a punishment but still nothing happens. This is in California btw
